Marut has Andromeda for less points. With guardianlvl3 b2 into Avatar with x2 D-charges can destroy anything against x6 armor saves carring AP.

I'm not an OSS guy so I'm speculating, but I get the sense that the internal competition is stiff. If you're buying a Naga, that KHD is a big deal... Gives you both a KHD that remains safe in marker state until needed, as well as a Specialist and Classified Grabber. The Mono Mine's a thing of beauty, but it's scope is much more limited... If you're just tackling 1-Wound dudes, a standard mine is basically better yeah? Plus you lose the Specialist, your REM-heavy army loses the support of KHD, etc.. So if you're building for hunting big-game, bring the mono, but for general missions, the risk of facing a TAG is probably less than the benefit of having a more versatile profile.

The Minelayer option competes too. Minelayer's a great rule, plus that shotgun can be a game-winner in the right place.

I suspect @deltakilo can add something useful here.

    That's impossible.
Either you play first, and probably deployed first. So you have one turn to deal with the speculo. Or, you play second, and you really should deploy second. Meaning you can hold the marut to deploy it after the speculo. If it is still in range, it's your fault. I'm not saying the situation would be ideal or your marut wouldnt have to face other threats, but it shouldn't be that easy.

I really like it and i try to field one of them most of the time. But we have so many shiny toys :)

Nah, monomines are pretty trash since they got rid of the permanent template effect in n2. They're overkill against the majority of profiles in the game and they cost a bomb in swc plus compete against more utilitarian profiles of their host troops. If they were .5 swc and had minelayer options they'd be useful

The Naga Mono doesn't cost any SWC

I personally like the Combi with the mono mines. That way I have better burst and range and a closer template I can use. After playing Zeros with my Bakunin I find it really frustrating to have the BSG with the Minelayer.
In vanilla I totally agree that the AVA makes it hard choices (at least it was until Dart came around, I don't really take the minelayert anymore if I bring her), but in OperationS the extra spot really opens up your options.

Totally agreed. I love the mental pressure it applies when you mention the unit is equipped with Mono vs regular mines. Just knowing that it is out there can lock up an area better than placing them does.

Haven't you heard? Don't let facts stand in the way of calling things trash :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I got to break out the monomine Naga quite a bit in Acon. The application there was a bit different, but the competition for midfield Specialists/infiltrators was even tougher. The comparison of BSG vs Combi's an interesting one... I like the BSG because it feels like an entirely different application, and also shaves a few points off, which helps fulfill the "here to roadblock" attitude that I get from Minelayer infiltrators. That being said, I shoot a lot of things with Camo Combi Rifles... I think that's one of the most underrated combat platforms in the game... So I definitely hear you.

Wow, clearly missed that change somewhere down the line, could have sworn it was 1swc. Maybe it's been a while since I last used them lol

It is very much possible, since a lot of Aleph players autodeploy as last model the Posthumans...
And of course there are those missions in which going first is not advantageous, being better to let the enemy "come", and you won't know you are facing an Avatar until Deployment starts.

Of course, a player with time and awareness will attempt to see what others are playing during his first game, at least on the closest tables, but that is no guarantee that the Avatar + Speculo player will be located in time.

On the bright side, Avatar lists go for Limited Insertion, so the Speculo can use only 2-3 orders.

Andromeda... a lot of us simply refuse to use her. I do not enjoy shoehorning.

Minelayer got less interesting in Vanilla because of the Libertos, frankly. His mines kill the same, and the extra cost is just 0.5 SWC, and because KHD is simply cheap and efficient in a Naga.

That being said, the Mono naga with BSG is a Big Game Hunter, thanks to the AP mode on the BSG (and the +6 allows to compensate for the ODD/TO some big TAGs can have), plus the Surprise Shot + camo + cover... quite the hit, and TAGs dodge at -6 (even if it costs 2-3 orders to set this up). Also, the BSG allows the Naga to hunt for enemy Fireteams, which is a nice flexibility bonus.

Yup, they nixed the SWC cost for OSS but not Shas... we know what side their bread is buttered on, anyway.

Shukra does nothing to prevent that. It just has a better chance of discovery.

Yes, but the Shukra rolls 17 for each Discover attempt, so the Speculo has about a 15% chance to be able to do make up to 5 moves. I say 15%, because if the Shukra manages to pass the first Discover, all the other Aleph Troops have a fair chance to Discover the Speculo (WIP is quite high on Aleph), but remember to "delay" with at least 1 unit (two, if you have a MSV2-3 able to look at her, to prevent move+move then move+smoke dodge).

Actually, Speculo has 100% chance to do 5 moves since at best you can only shoot it in its 3rd Order. Move+move Dicover1. Move+Move: Discover2. Move - you shoot - they kill something and die.

However, that is a very extreme case. Chances are Speculo will be at most 2 Orders away from its target, or alternatively it will be able to stay somewhere unseen and reimpersonate. Since Aleph is very top-heavy, that means it can go for one of the 2 or 3 good targets and do a lot of damage; it doesn't need to go for cheerleaders.

Except the Naga Mono Mines comes with a combi... making it, like most Aleph profiles, pretty versatile

After Dart I find it very difficult to fit non-specialist Nagas on my lists.

Dart only does not do mines, and is so much more versatile than a Naga that its not even funny.

And SKs in Aleph are few because they are quite expensive. And I always want to bring a TO camo anyway... AND....

But in any case - I don't think i have ever played with monofilament Nagas, and any sort of Naga is finding it harder and harder to fit on the list...

Why is that ? Nagas are really good troops.

Aleph does not lack really good troops. The jump from Dogged -> NWI and Camo -> TO is enormous, and Nagas are expensive as a baseline to not consider the extra jump for Dasyus. There is also the fact that the mk2 exists, if you ever think about not getting the sniper one then the AHD on will most likely make it to your list. And - most of all - anything the first non-specialist Naga does you are probably better server by a Dart ( More resilient, better at camo hunting, more mobile and more versatile due to E/M).

And in vanilla he suddenly got come competition from the stupidly cheap Libertos.

So, basically this - the slots I usually use for camo are better served by Dart or a Mk2. To bring a Naga you kinda need to be willing to bring more than those camos, AND you need to consider if you would not be better served by a cheap libertos.

Yep, it's the minelayer the one with BSG... got crosswired there (to be fair, I mostly use one KHD Naga & Dart).

"infinity syndrome": a great troop is not used because there are other more interesting options, or in a more "professional" language, "opportunity cost": deploying that monofilament Naga costs certain points you find are better invested in a Dart...

But that was about all sort of nagas, including naga FO or KHD. The ones that can fit in about every list and work well versus anyone.

The main points of Wyrmnax were that CH:TO and NWI were better than CH and dogged. For NWI, i would rather disagree since shock is a common sight and for nagas, dogged is usually as powerful, requiring the opponent to use another order to get rid of him (which he will do if the naga is really a threat). For CH vs CH:TO, i would argue CH:TO main advantage is about hidden deployment, but it effectively "cost" an order as long as the unit is not revealed, whereas a CH troop will still provide an order even when not used. Yes it is possible to deploy CH:TO in a non hidden state (or even in CH state for what matters), but you still paid for it.

I personnally like to have one FO dasyu and at least one naga (usually either FO or KHD, i should use monomine more). And a Mk.2. Because they all brings different things. Burst 3 dasyu is a versatile unit that can activate, do things, then go into suppressive fire (which Mk.2 cannot). Bonus point for deploying a mine before going into suppressive. Naga is the "disposable wonder". And Mk.2 is usually my assassin.

I admit i have yet to play Dart (for a stupid reason: i have the preorder mini, but i decided i wouldnt proxy Dart since I have the mini, and i won't play it unpainted ... yes it has been one year :'( )

You will see how the game will change.

Dart does anything a non-specialist Naga does, better. She is the reason non-specialist Nagas have been dropping of my lists.
