There was Don Peyote where, if you had 0g, you could use Aerial Deployment 1 or 2 (can't remember the level). Hellois *specifically* stated that Multiterrain troops were excluded, despite having been pointed in the thread that Multiterrain makes you choose one Terrain and "count as having it" for the whole game (so you can have an Intruder with 0g, another with Mountain Terrain, and a third with Jungle terrain if you want). It was an "Extra" so to speak, since it would apply to missions without the Terrain rules. Other, different, Terrain rule that was implemented to all troops with the appropiate terrain, including Multiterrain ones this time, was that in those scenarios the troops with the appropiate Terrain would gain +1'' / +2.5cm to their first MOV value. This rule substituted fully the Terrain rules in the rulebook, however. Dunno about later stages, I was in the middle of a moving frenzy from March or so until mid July last year (between looking for a house, moving stuff, and bringing the missus over). The ban on Multiterrain meant that most AD troops would get AD (lol... I think only the Bashi Bazouk got an improvement, going from AD1 to AD2), and most Nomad Corregidor Troops would also get it, specially the Geckos. The only game I played was a LI (I had little time for more) with a Marut and some vanilla stuff, and a Brigadas Fireteam, 2 Geckos and 3 Intruders... We played the Chain of Command wrong (using AD means starting in LoL, chain or not), and the Marut soloed the Nomad Brigada link alone, thus forcing the Corregidor player to deploy his troops without orders and pray... Essentially the whole battle was reduced to "who wins Initiave?", which is more than sad.
I guess maybe not, in the YJ video they have a mission with a MOV bonus for those with Multiterrain such as the Tiger. So I guess Ariadna awesome bonus will only be for that 1 trooper with specific Mountain Terrain skill.
Bostria tends to be... less than clear. Usually, that bonus is for all units with the appropiate terrain, with those with Multiterrain being able to select that one and get the bonus. The other "bonus" of "something rolls 18+ in some thing, a trooper gets a Combi impact to the face" is as clear as the movement one.
So having had a read through the mission pack I can't see a whole lot changing hands in the first 2 weeks. Locations with multiples areas require both areas taken to secure the location and Kurage itself requires a JSA player. This will make it tough to take any of these I think. The obvious targets seem to be Haqq and Yu Jing as these only have a single location thus making it easier to secure the area. I suspect these areas may see the heaviest fighting.
Yay... with diminished player base we now also have diminished capability of defence. Talk about killing morale before it even gets started.
Then let's put it like an armchair scholar. CB has given us bad terrain to fight in and taken our troops hearts from us at the same time. Of the five ways of victory we are already down two and shall have a very difficult time winning. The wise general would avoid such a fight. Excuse my lack of proper choice of words, it has veen significant amount of years since I read The Art of War. On the surface of it, however, this is a battle that Yu Jing is set up to lose, and it would require a very, very significant effort to overcome.
Well, JSA has been set up to keep hold of Kurage, that much is patently obvious. Yu Jing isn't set up to lose guaranteed, but loss is the default state, without pro-active setup to mitigate the loss of players from JSA split and morale drop its obviously an outcome CB is totally fine with. The obvious assumption is that the outcome is pre-determined, Japan controls Novvy Cimmeria or a big chunk thereof, has access to Teseum and Nessium and is totally a major power now. But, giving benefit of doubt, there could be other reasons for setting things up to give JSA a guaranteed win: maybe phase two opens with a Shyamalan twist like the CA nuking Japanese Kurage, so you need them to be winning there for it to have an impact/all your art assets to make sense without going back and editing the Domaru into ORCs.
In fairness having JSA as their own faction means they have to do something to give them a leg up as I reckon they will have a relatively small player base so would get swamped otherwise. They clearly have a narrative in mind and I'm OK with that. This just lets us add a bit of story to our games and maybe have an effect on some of the incidental details.
That depends entirely on what happens if no one manages to control both locations at the same time. Example, if Panoc-23 Camp is controlled by CA and Panoc-23 HAS is controlled by Pan-O, this results in neither controlling Panoc-23. Outcomes: A) The base is not conquered by anyone and defaults to Pan-O control. This is a clear advantage in having two bases. B) The base is considered lost to Pan-O, but not controlled by anyone. This is a clear disadvantage in having two bases. At the moment we don't have sufficient information which is the default, but it's not unreasonable to assume it's A - meaning an advantage since it's harder to take the base. Even more, if CA controls HAS and Tohaa control CAMP, if that results in Pan-O control, it's a major advantage. Edit: also considering the difficulty of taking control of the Nomad, Ariadna and Pan-O sites, it's also more likely to go for the easier-to-take Haqq or Yu Jing sites for any faction deciding to go on the offensive, regardless if A or B.
Remember that it is possible to play other missions and report them into that theatre. So you could play Annihilation!Kurage and report it in one fo PanO's base. Yes, the JSA has a position that can't be attacked unless they accept to fight there, but they can lose the other at least. And things will move in Phase two with the addition to Aleph's starting base, plus Tohaa and CA won't seem to be going to have a starting location of their own.
I think that if reports gets normalized for participation in the JSA sector, they might get screwed over by it, and normalization is honestly the only way I see that area being possible to lose.
"Hey Mike, let's play a game. I will use my [insert non-JSA army here] as proxies for the JSA, and then we play for that zone you can only add points to if facing the JSA". And the sweetest thing is that Corvus authorized ANY CB model to proxy anything in Infinity of its same Silhouette... :p
