I agree but at least it's one option.

That could be a lot of fun!

Yeah, the problem is that he's 12 points more than a base Zuyong. I can deal with about 8pts of that (Engineer and the EM weapons), but the extra 4pts from the Automedikit is really too much.

39pts is the cost of a Shang Ji HRL!

I'd probably chalk that up as it either being:
A: People are starved for new profiles here. So even a cracked and half-empty bone is something and you might as well hit against a wall something opposed to nothing.
B: It's to highlight how bad he is by pointing out how niche the cases are when he'd be actually useful, further emphasizing how ~90% of the time, he's not what you need.

That, and the compulsory ''local meta variation'' schpiel could be placed here:
A solo Teuton is a lot better in an Ariadna bloated meta than one in a meta where Nomads and Haqq are taking up 75% of the armies. T:

That's very valid point to make and why I always take the threads here with a bit of salt.

Taking models because they've just been painted or they're neat is fairly common in my area so I can have a bit of fun with my shiny new Guijia and Krit once he's at my FLGS.

I played the following list today against TAK on Hunting Party:

Ended up winning 5-1. I had a few lucky shootouts which helped my paintrain slowly crawl his way to his DZ and win the game. On Krit, overall he performed well: He repaired the Lu-duan after I had used him as a speedbump and minesweeper first turn, connected a console (on a roll of 14 no less) and then used his E/maulers and E/mitter to isolate my opponent's Lt.
He is definitely really good at supporting attack REM. A linked engineer is sooooo much more order-efficient than one sitting in the back with a servant, especially in LI lists where you can't always afford spending 2/3 orders just to repair a REM.

I think I'll go with even more REM next time, I missed my rui-shi in this game and there's a bunch of dirty moves involving E/maulers and a pangulling FTO in a 5-man team I'd like to try:

In all honesty, the more I look at Krit ( Granted I haven't been looking at him or anything else much recently, since it was exam season here until two days ago. ), the more I get the impression with him that, whilst being grotesquely expensive in the context of IA, he was made ( Or at least unintentionally became. ) for Vanilla more so than IA ( A sentiment I'd feel for the majority of IAs units, TBH: several of them just seem to mesh inside of Vanilla a lot more happily than IA. ).

I mean, at least in Vanilla the FD1 profile can fit the niche of an HI specialist with close-range guns. And yes, I am implying Krit is an 8'' gunfighter here, since his dual Heavy Pistols and, E/Maulers and Chain-Colt do skew him towards being significantly better at firing from within 8'' opposes to further than 8'' ( Since there his guns are either Coordinated/ARO guns or a gun that has worse DAM and same burst than the Pistols for a longer range-band. ).

The further I look at him the more he just seems like the average un-interesting HI specialist.

Granted, by me that's perfect enough, since I'm not known for playing smart or subtly so I tend to gravitate towards such units either way.

I think it was a mistake to make him a Zuyong, instead of a Haidao character. Now that I'd take! Even better if a doctor.

    No no no!

Let's not encourage CB to make him an even worse profile! The only reason why there's room for him at all is that a Haidao Engineer takes up the one single Haidao "slot" that a Fireteam has. If Haidao were normal Fireteams, then Krit would be out of a job for real. (And I think we'd see some fairly Haidao-dense lists with CoC and even plain Haidao making a much more common appearance)

Doctor, now, that'd be very different. Doctor would be there to cure a state which Krit is less likely to also be afflicted by due to how wounds work and how E/M versus non-E/M weapons tend to work. It doesn't sound very Yu Jing, but from a power-gaming perspective it would be more valuable.

I don't really care at this point. If it's YJ I think CB is just going to screw it up. They have not really seemed to care about them for years. The Uprising book was poorly executed, IA seems like a half done effort, and then they add in characters that seem to do nothing to add to the army.

One thing I'm curious about; we mostly say IA is half baked (and some part of me agrees with it), but what would make them full-roasted?

The whole epic saga of Guijia and Shang?

    Or moar units?

    Moar options?

    Thats a question.

I really hate this sort of attitude from the defenders of IA and CB, we've talked about it to death. Lackluster and restricted Wildcards and overpriced units keep list building stale, the Guijia and Shang Ji need some retuning, the Zhencha being a 1W HI is criminal, Tiger soldiers being cut to push the Liu Xing, the Hulang was designed for vanilla, and Krit is underwhelming. All of this combined with the sin that is Uprising leads YJ to feel demonized and alienated by the designers and the community, which is never a good thing for a smaller game like Infinity.

I guess I’d say all of the above.

No changes to Shang Ji and Guijia for a start were sad. I’ve tried looking on the bright side and found nothing.

The Hulang takes an top class player to use well at all. For me he’s just taken out before I can even use him.

The Liu Xing is a nightmare of discussion before I can even bring it down because there’s not clear rules on ARO’s and such.

I can’t say I’m a fan of the 1 Wound+NWI HI. Especially when there’s only one doctor to heal anyone both in IA and Vanilla.

Then they make all of the new profiles in Vanilla only AVA 1! While Nomads get AVA2 for many of the new Tunguska profiles and even PanO gets AVA2 Echo Bravo. After loosing so much they gained what? Also, of those new profiles they got only a few variants of each.

A good Lieutenant with the Daoying but not fantastic by any stretch. I think Tai Sheng might be the next best thing. And what pisses me off the most is that the best thing they got was the Mercenary Liberto!

I was more demoralized when Nomads got Holomen. They already had one of the best HI with Riot Girls. Then PanO getting a Biker HI. And Nomads get a transforming biker! (I'm still pissed about loosing my Aragoto.)

I can only say for myself, that I’ve been very demoralized by how CB has handled it and no longer want to play them and certainly not buy anything.

So sad, everything is so terrible, the liberto isnt even in IA, all I got was this mostly useless LT2 camo trash can, I cant find it in me to enjoy Yu Jing any longer, my world is pale grey empty shadow of what it once was, please CB restore us poor yu jing players to your favour, just one more little tweak, just one more new profile, its been... err... days at least, are you abandoning me? huff

While I feel your comments are a bit heartless and mean, I do apologize for being overly negative and not answering @ObviousGray s question correctly.

Things that could have been done was to come out with IA right after Uprising. Take JSA away but replace right away with IA.
More units would have been good but I feel making them more than AVA 1 in Vanilla would have been fine.
A bit more variety of weapons even better.

Krit is sadly not worth taking. If I had to take him, to free a slot for Haidao MSV or KHD then I pay 11 point over the Haidao. As there is no alternative to that, this is a small opportunity window to use him. If I wan´t a specialist that FDs or infiltrates, I´ll use a Zencha for less have camo and forgo the option of minelaying an e-mauler, I think I can live with that (but on a sidenot I wish Zencha BSG would have mines or even minelayer). If I wan´t another big gun, yes then I pay the price over the ML for the unique FB, but in listbuilding I would kick Krit out sooner or later and go with the ML ... but here I see the only real use for him. Bringing a unique weapon and being a specialst, but for a heavy price.

If we look at his gear, there are some nice EM-weapons, but if we compare them to his price tag, we came to the conclusion, that this is not realy worth the paying. E-Maulers are nice, but building up a defence for your link cost even more orders. E-Mitters are a nice ARO weapon in a link, but still it comes only with the Krit-price-tax. Direkt template? You can get own on a more useful platform in roughly the same price tag, it is called Tai, should be out before some out of the head trick-Krit and has NCO!

No. For me he brings nothing what I don´t already have or desperatly wanted. And I do not understand, why they make him that expensive and in direkt competition with Tai (Zuyong Char, combativ and SO) that he will lose in almost every single point. He is only a coincedence product that has a nice role in IA due to his overcosted profile.

If they give him total immuniy (maybe with 1W+NWI due to some serious damage in former battles) that would make him a fine linkable engineer in a HI link. I wonder also, why he was bloated with AMK and Kine L2. Striped down to a pure HI engineer with only the E-Mitter for a "long range" ARO and his pistols, maybe even frenzy to push the cost down even further. And for the Feuerbach? Put it on a Shang Ji. I think big guns should be visible on a mini.

Oh and he is one of the rare engineers that forgot their d-charges in two of three possible profiles - thats sad. At least they were very useful on the FD version, I think.

So too much negative here? Great! I like the mini and I will get it, just because one more orange HI in my YJ collection. And when he is painted, I will stick him a list and try him out, maybe in a list for Aquisition or Engineering Deck - where ever a engineer may shine ;-)

    I STILL WANT MY TAI!

A big part of the problem is the cost of units overall. Zuyong are pretty cheap for HI, and they're still too expensive for an entire army of HI.

It didn't help when JSA left a full year before IA showed up, and more than 6 months before IA was announced to be coming.

It didn't help that the Uprising was very poorly written. (I am fine with the fact that it happened, I hate how it was written)

It didn't help that the first new units we saw for IA were 1W+NWI.

It didn't help that Daofei and Tigers (which were previously written by CB to be in IA) were taken away.

It didn't help that the Guijia and Shang Ji were untouched.

    How would I 'fix' IA?
    • I'd start by making the Hackable trait a points reduction. 1-2pts a model, maybe more. Would need to be playtested pretty heavily, and would also apply to everyone. Either that or make being unhackable HI/TAG cost points, which would massively affect Ariadna.
    • I'd honestly make Zuyong (along with Tai, Krit, and any other Zuyong characters in the future) 1W+NWI+Shock Immune. This would drop the cost of every Zuyong 3pts. I can't figure out any other way to reduce the cost of the core of the army, so that's what I'm left with. I don't like doing it. This might be avoidable if being hackable saved more like 3-4pts per trooper.
    • Tai Sheng could stay about as-is. (+2CC, +1BS, +1WIP, +3BTS), just 1W+NWI+Shock (or Bio) Immune. -3pts to her profiles due to that change alone.
    • Krit needs to lose the Automedikit, and gain EM Immunity (or some ability that would allow him to recover from IMM2 with a Reset). Even if all the rest of his profile stayed the same (+1CC, +1WIP, engineer, weapons, etc) he'd still be ~7pts cheaper than he is now.
    • I'd make Daoying 1W+NWI+Shock Immune HI. Why is the special command unit of the HI sectorial not HI?
    • I'd make Haidao BTS3. Why the hell doesn't a Naval unit have protection against vacuum?!? Haidao Engineer could use EM Immunity, too.
    • I'd give Hulang some smoke. Maybe Eclipse, maybe Nimbus. Maybe both. Also, either Super-jump or Climbing Plus, preferably Super-Jump since Zhencha have Climbing Plus. Make them lighter versions of Shikami.
    • I'd bring Tigers back in, and then make Liu Xing much heavier (~60pts, and worth dropping in). At the very least, Deflector L2 and Stealth natively so that the LX can drop into hacking areas without getting fried. Possibly BTS6, too.
    • The Mowang is really pretty good, the problem is that it's being compared to the Kriza Boracs, and the KB's Full Auto L2 isn't countered by MSV while the Mowang's Mimetism is. Maybe Eclipse/Nimbus smoke?
    • I'd bring Daofei back in, and let the Zhencha stay where they are. Maybe drop the Zhencha's Infiltration to FD2 to save a couple points.
    • I'd make the Shang Ji have more immediately-useful stats. Kinematica L2 and Deflector L2 on all profiles, maybe drop BTS to 3.
    • The Guijia needs something. HGL could be that, but even an LGL would be useful. The Raicho got Mine Dispenser, but while I don't have a problem with that rule I'd like to make the Guijia not be a copy of the Raicho. So that means something other than Mine Dispenser.

Agree with that list @Section9 , except making Zuyong 1w.
I think the most fun change you propose is the tigers back in and the improved Liu Xing.
I’d love an AD daofei + Level troop to Rambo with.

As I said, I don't like it either, but Zuyong are just flat too expensive to be the foundation unit of the sectorial. Especially when you're taking two TacWare versions at +4pts each over their equivalents!

Making Zuyong 1W+NWI also makes the Shang Ji look a lot better.

Yeah, that's the idea. Making the LX a Daofei with wings instead of a barely-heavier Tiger.

No matter the cost, you almost certainly wouldn't put 2 AD troops into a list, whether Tigers or LX or one of each. Sure, in a sectorial where you can put two full combat groups you might see more, but IA is really hard-pressed to run more than 1 combat group at all, nevermind 13-15 models.

Sure, you might see 2x Tigers more often, but 1x LX in a list with only 9 models might be interesting to hit someone with, especially if they're expecting 2x Tigers from that same on-table models.
