Have to have something for folks to fall to if their performance doesn't meet Morat standards.
If Morat farmers are slaves then do they prefer death over farm work or are they determined to raise out of their current condition? This conversation makes me want the rest of the major faction books (Yu Jing, O-12, Tohaa) to be released so the Combined Army book can finally see the light of day.
125pts? That's a bit light, but even the JSA Army Pack is only like 225.
That at least gets you to 144+ points (depending on FO/medic/LT choices).
So, we need to have them binge-watch a pile of anime of sexy oni?
Main thing I'm expecting is to get 1-2 fewer monthly releases in Q1 and Q2 because a bunch of CB's model production capacity will be dedicated to producing Defiance sculpts.
I can see that being a possibility. I'd be shocked if they managed to continue with their normal release output that has become the norm.
Typically what some countries define as the difference between slavery and gainful employment is whether you're even able to theoretically raise out of the condition. Unless specifically written otherwise I think it's safe to assume that a slave remains a slave (and that like with humans, if there is a way out by working off a debt, the slave's master finds ways to delay such a release practically indefinitely by deducting for non-optional amenities)
Krakot lore does say they prefer death over having to do menial tasks such as digging trenches or building bridges.
Which makes me think I really want a blister with two chainrifle krakot. I always take two of those.
Maybe we will get a female Krakot model with one of the remaining loadouts? That is a possibility since Kratots consist of both genders and CB has tried to have at least one female sculpt in mixed gender units. Still I'd be happy just for more Morat sculpts in general since I like the species so much. Which is partly why the future Combined Army book is being looked forward to.
I believe being a farmer on the homeworld isn't actually slavery. They are viewed as an important part for the morat society still. The difference with the Krakot is that they are put on the battlefield but not allowed to fight. Which is a major dishonor to them. The farmer is not on a battlefield, he's feeding the Morat boys and girls fighting around the galaxy!
Tell you what we could use. A female Krakot. Unmasked. With a big ass rifle.
Lore-Wise, I think it could be neat if the Morat rebel from the Combined Army! Lore state that they are always open for turning against the EI if an opportunity arise. I would like to see that, some infighting (humans do it, aliens should too!).
Honestly, I just want less Shivaspastrami focus. It seem to be all the CA has lately. It's all about them. Wildfire, Defiance. Very little about Morats or the rest of the CA.
Shasvaasti were sidelined from the beginning of N3, were dropped from HSN3 in favour of Onyx, and hadn't received any miniatures for pretty much the entirety of the current edition. It's nice to see them get their time in the limelight.
Sure but ALL the light?
for my own army I have most of my models be either openly separatist (as open as they can be), or have conflicted feelings on the matter. But I myself actually think having MAF split off Combined in a JSA style might be good for the army. Well, I would like it, but at the same token I feel CB kinda doesn't care for the aliens, so I am also afraid that MAF will now enter the same limbo as Merovingia, Acon and Tohaa have entered.
I am going to point out that the only Tohaa player I know was actually happy with the models being discontinued and even started playing Tohaa more after it, so who knows?
As for shas, I actually like it that they're getting the limelight. The models look boss, and I really enjoy playing them. In fine with this circle of variance inside CA.
I do the same with my Morat character, openly defecting to humanity even. It just fit Morat well to not be subservient to others and rebel. Allied, sure, but not subservient.
I think they could be an addition to NA-2 in the future. Or we could have a separate Morat Merc force for those who rebelled/escaped the E.I.'s control. It might seem off looking at it now but things can happen and we don't know what the future of Infinity holds for Humanity or the aliens it has come in contact with.
A lot of the mercenary companies cleave pretty close to a primary faction model-wise (Starco being the strongest example). I'd like to see a CA-themed mercenary company -- The Exrah Concordat survivors. You can bulk out with Morat Renegades, still use CA equipment (Remotes and the like), maybe with a "JSA Rui Shi"-style change here and there (no autotool, obviously). I could see them profiting off their revenge on the EI.
I'd go more for a Spiral mirror... but mostly with Shasvastii and some specific Morat troops, maybe even an Aspect like the Anathematic or so. "Renegades" or not, I doubt any CA race is allowed inside the Human Sphere, with the Krakots being limited to Paradiso in the fluff.
The Mercenary get close in term of Wargame and the forces they can deploy. In lore, a mercenary company could never hope to stand against a faction's full army, much less the faction as a whole. I get what you mean though.
A Morat rebel force could be like the Tohaa that have been conquered by the EI. A smaller but stil significant force fighting their own. Except the Morat's nature of wanting a good fight means there would probably be a lot of them rebelling. They ARE, after all, waiting for that in many ways.
While I agree with you that CA would hardly be allowed in the Human Sphere much, I think humans are more likely to "trust" Morat that Shasvastii. Morats are waaaay more straightforward. Mixed with human people, a Morat force could probably be allowed to deploy where needed, if they are supervised.
I like most of these ideas. I don't think we should ever see aspects out of CA Vanilla though. That being said, hear me out on this:
What if there was a morat commander, someone like Kornak, who is kind of a fringe figure. The guy/gal is super charismatic, and they begin stretching out the idea of a morat's regiment. Basically, because morats form the closest to a family unit around their fighting force, this fringe commander begins with the highly unorthodox idea that the concept of Karanatat doesn't just apply to morats, it can apply to anyone who is warlike enough, who gives themselves enough to the cause.
Basically make the guy a space-monkey Spartacus. And this guy starts something of a rebellion, with the difference that he takes in other fringe/outcast groups from humans too. Could be something like "Morat Rebellion Forces", or even have some cool alien name, like "Klar Kaat Rebellion Forces". Make it so they're mostly morat, with a sprinkle of human mercenaries. Could even have it so they don't have the same stuff as MAF. They could not have Sogarats, for example, but have their own cobbled together heavy armor. Would be cool. Not sure how many people would play it though.
You had me at "Space-Monkey Spartacus." I want that character, period.
