Sorry. Think you missed my /sarcasm at Fari here, apologies, I should have been clearer. I know ITS is the most generally played. It’s what my group mostly played in N3 and N4. I was generally mocking the statement Fari made not the state of play itself. Which I admit is rather childish of me but I couldn’t resist. Also regarding Spain, yes it is relatively empty compared to the UK (and a lovely country, haven’t been back to Salou in years and I’m going next year) but it is much bigger. To me and others I game with, It’s no small thing to travel such a distance and that some of you can do it at will is rather shocking. Either you possess far more money than us Brits or the costs are far different which I will state blatantly that I am jealous if this is the case though a cursory glance at your petrol prices compared to the UK would indicate not though you may have alternative travel means that aren’t as expensive as the UK. Confused by this a little. I live in the mountains in Wales. I travel to my friends house by car too and we play at his for the most part. We go to Cardiff when we can for a group meet up. Why does this prevent you playing on tabletops at home? My point (or at least one of them) to Fari was that he travels for literal hours to a place and the same amount of time back. All to play with toy soldiers. Distance is relative in certain aspects of physics. In this terminology it’s literal distance. The amount of travelling some people do to play games is mind boggling. Take the Americans you mentioned. Some travel over to the UK to play. The amount of money spent to do that is mind boggling to mere mortals like myself. I would love to have enough cash that I could casually throw a minimum of £100 sterling of petrol away just to travel and play, let alone the money spent on flights that some people do though as @xagroth stated: the US is a different beast altogether and the war gamers there have cash to spare. TL:dr. It’s not really the overall distance I’m looking at rather the amount of money spent to travel said distance. Which to me seems to generally be a lot. Happens to all of us eventually. I still have nightmares about all the AP in N2… though I could be Mandela effecting that memory.
Hence distance is relative, I usually walk to play because public buss service is unreliable here, for many its a huge distance for me its just a 30 mins walk.
Ah. Understood. There is no monetary expense for you then. Only time. Which is something we’re all willing and able to spend on wargaming.
Please dont use sarcasm in a written media without warning. It's difficult face to face, so here even more :) :) PS: 5th month of N5, and still no PDF for the retired factions
In my small communitys there was a lot of ranting but we do enjoy N5 positive side. I think CB just took away too much. Clean up - yes. But kill too much sectorials and change "every second" weapon loadout on the older (and a few brand new) troops, making them obsolet or not wysiwig anymore makes a lot of people sad. Some just refuse to buy any new stuff at the moment but overall we play! Speaking of travel. To my two main groups I can go by car in 30 min. On weekend I usualy play with a friend at our homes. I have a small flat, but the tabel fits in. You have to set prioritys. We usualy play ITS. I also enjoy some narrative campaigns from time to time which are roughly coverd by ITS but when we want to make something special we are not shy ;-) For example in N4 we played a campaign where we use free ABHs for a benefit - up to a haris that works in additon to your normal fireteams. I also like the BAMS missons a lot!
“What’s that, it’s a 500 mile drive to the neighboring Satellite, and those 500 miles are only half of my state and the neighboring one? Yeah, as long as it’s not winter that’s fine.”
The fact that most of their collections are unsupported by rules when they were playing tournaments pre-COVID makes even GW look generous and scares them off trying to come back. Even the fact that I, the most committed player by a long shot, would have to proxy most of my list is intimidating. Plus, we found out about Trench Crusade and half our group leans towards casual/narrative games that Infinity doesn't support anymore, and Army still doesn't link to N5 rules so we've lost even that layer of convenience that made Infinity more approachable.
Why would there be one? They never said there would, that was just make -believe from the community As an aside, I love how the answer to Fari stating very fair complains about the game is "lol, just change everything you don't like and hope everybody is ok with that, everything is fine, there is no war in Ba Sing Se", crazy of someone to ask for a balanced game when they are paying for it, right?
Not crazy, but a tiny bit curious when the game is in fact more balanced than it has ever been Also, I at least was talking about casual games. Where, yes, I believe you're allowed to play anything the game permits. I'm playing 400pt games on the regular even though I've never seen a single 400pt tournament. Why? Because I don't play infinity solely to win at tournaments, but also just for fun. And I feel like people forget that that's an option.
I agree N5 seems quite balanced, but that doesn't mean there are no problems; N5 has raised the power bar across most armies, so I totally understand Ariadna and vAleph players being pissed off because they are worse than they were in N4 while everything else is BETTER, then watch CB just ignore them (and ok top of that losing stuff while a lot of armies are getting stuff) And about house rules, sure, if you only play with the same handful of people every time and you all agree, you can do whatever you want, but that doesn't mean the game (or the specific problems to solve) is balanced by that. Also, community discussion is based on a common set of rules, that's why we don't discuss houserules, because everybody doesn't share the same circumstances
CB just hired a new Marketing lead. Good luck to Matt Lattanzi! https://www.linkedin.com/posts/corv...b&rcm=ACoAACdHjQkB9pqLBslSXnrBqW_QjKNHtM3TSBA
How goes the adage, oh yeah, In the UK 100 years ago is yesterday and in the USA 100 miles is right next door. I always thought it was interesting that the maps American Indians would give to Europeans confused the Europeans so very much until they realized the maps were scaled to time, not distance. My goodness, rivers are short here in America, and they are so far apart. Ah, my first impression of N5 was not good. I opened the army app on my phone and watched ASA disappear when the app updated and the screen refreshed. Nice welcome to a new edition, seeing your faction -- one of them -- become an unfaction right before your very eyes.
My sympathies. I can easily imagine your ire at this occurring. Watching an army you’ve spent time over disappearing is not a good experience. It’s one of the reasons a large number of the players I know left. Despite this I will hope you at least have some good games in N5. As some like @burlesford and others here have mentioned; from their experiences it seems to be a fun game that hasn’t lost its core principles.
I will not say I do not understand the sentiments, I do, and I need to remind that I was an extensive NCA and Varuna player, so yes I have a few armies, extensively converted, shelved, but it is a decision that I personally think is better overall for the game. Yes, it is not a nice feeling to have your armies removed, and I certainly would not like to be in the shoes of the people who had to make the decision, but again I think this makes the game better and hopefully the response and rework time shorter.
Then i expect the creators to accept that they gonna lose part of the fanbase as a consequence of that movement and dont blame the players for not adapting to the "new" Infinity, or getting less sales because if the players dont know witch faction will be retired next without warning, they will have reservations about buying any product from them.
