@Zewrath I fully agree with you. The Shang Ji w/ HRL is your ARO weapon of choice for a Zu Yong link. I also think a Haidao + Zanshi link is pretty good for a static defense. Too bad the Haidao can't be healed though.

Hidden Deployment missile launchers are amazing.....if only they had a light shotgun instead of nanopulsar.

To each his own i guess. I find that he's a good psychological piece since if your opponent has a choice he probably won't deploy anything in front of him or somewhere he could get in few orders, so i use him to secure corridors or alleyway my troops can use to get closer and force a dilemna on my opponent: you either try to stop those troops and give something to eat to my yan-huo, or you give-up and rely on more close range defence.

Side note, but the yan-huo MHMG haris is definitely growing on me. I've played this set-up a few times and it was quite good so far:

    Invincible Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]3
    ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 34)
YĀN HUǑ (FTO) MULTI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 53)
HǍIDÀO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 26)

    2.5 SWC | 113 Points

The MHMG with +1B has very good active turn firepower and is more than respectable in ARO (B2 BS14 Exp or stun shots) so if he has nothing to shoot at i can just have him peak his head out of cover and watch over an objective. Being in a fireteam also kinda help with his poor mobility, i had games where i dragged him in the middle of the board because my haidao had some brain to fry, and while he was a little late he was just fast enough to reach a good ARO position, eventually dropping him in supressive fire.

Not gonna lie, i completly forgot the Shang-Ji HRL was a thing. I've never been fond of HRL in the first place though, it always disappointed me with my wu-mings, but in a sectorial with so few MSV i kinda like fire ammo to potentially burn down TO/ODD troops.
Anyway you're right, it's definitely a better unit for what i plan to do, and the ML would work better on a more static fireteam that won't move before the 2nd or 3rd turn (which is kinda counter-intuitive considering the TacAw and NCO orders that might be wasted).

As for the Hac Tao ML yeah it's definitelty a good unit, but it's barely affordable beside a zuyong core:

ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Duo, Tactical Awareness) HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (1.5 | 38)
HǍIDÀO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 26)
PANGGULING FTO (Repeater) Light Shotgun / Electric Pulse. (0 | 13)

If you go for this kind of set-up you simply won't have enough points for more than one zhencha/hulang/Liu Xing, so your Zuyong core will have to do most of the heavy lifting. If they fail, you're done for, which is a bit too "all-in" for my taste.

If your Yan Huo has killed ~50pts of enemy and keeps the rest of the opposing army from going there, that's still worth it's points, even if it's just cheerleading from then on.

Depends on how you play Yu Jing.
If you play what I would call the "typical" kind of YJ, you'll load up your army full of Kuang Shi's and other cheap orders, AKA. 17-18 orders with 1-2 "big dudes", then no that's not the case as you don't have that many other dudes to switch to, because the rest is mediocre trash goons.
Of course, you can also play elite YJ, in which case your situation may be different.
Furthermore, sadly it's extremely unlikely for him to kill that much in active turn. If he's attacking a Line Trooper link then his killing a single bloke between 15-20 points. If it's a multi wound HI in cover, then he'll most like inflict a single wound and the trooper will go prone.

Killing 50 points with a Yan Huo is a tall order in my experience unless your opponent is kinda stupid and leaves expensive pieces for you to get

To be honest now that some time has passed, I don't think I like IA: it feels like a one trick pony (frontal assault with a Zuyong link) with a style I can more or less get in other Sectorials that offer other, funnier approaches on top of that. More dakka is rarely a fun nor effective strategy for this game. Also, Zuyong dimorfism really bothers me aesthetically

While the Zuyong link is really good I do think IA feels like pre rework MO. In which, there is exactly one primary build and it's all centered around 1 very specific fireteam and nothing else comes close to the raw effectiveness of that one fireteam.

On the plus side with more wild card options at least there are essentially more ways to build that fireteam than the old MO Hospitaller link, but you're basically almost always going to bring the Zuyong fireteam in some shape or form.

Really would've help lend some variety if CB hadn't dropped the ball so damn hard with the Guijia, Liu Xing, and Shang Ji. It doesn't help that the Hulang really doesn't play ball particularly well with IA either, despite it debateably being a solid choice in Vanilla.

I think people are going a bit overboard on NCO and tactical awareness. People are going to be hunting your link with ways to devastate them. The pain train HI link isn't going to be the best option for all ITS missions. I think static defensive links are going to certainly have their place in IA.

Its funny how things have turned around 360. People were super hyped for MO changes and so negative about Invincible Army. Now that we have full info things have flipped. Pano players are more negative towards the MO changes and it turns out IA is pretty darn good.

I think Hac Tao + a defensive Zhanshi + wildcards link can do really well. Overall though, I think even the old MO had more flexibility. Order Sergeants really do give a lot to MO.

Well, yeah, I don't play the cheap orders and a couple big dudes style.

I tend to run far more elite, rarely NOT running a single combat group. So I usually have 3-4 heavy hitters to trade between.

I'm particularly happy about the Hulang in Vanilla. I was really worried that CB would not help vanilla out at all and everything would be just fine with IA. Now Vanilla is actually playable. For me anyway.

I'm not sure If I agree bout the one Link thing... yet. While I agree something was missed with the Shang Ji. You can actually make decent lists doing a Shang Ji core using the Wildcards as you mentioned.

I find myself comfortable using a double haris (fake core) and letting the ARO duty to the Hac Tao and the visor job to the Rui Shi. Even if full pain train is good there are too many point/orders in just this guys. Don't know, but for mr Wu Mings worked better with the Zhanying and other support ISS can do.

I'm enjoying IA a lot but the best plays come from Zenchas, Liu Xius and Hac Taos xD

I'm seeing lots of use for a Daoying MSR as the second Daoying you take, though spending LT2 orders to take a shot and (hopefully) recamo isn't terrible. Assuming you can force your target to -12 mods, that is.

Otherwise, I would have preferred the Daoying hacker and Liu Xing multi+specialist. And the Zhencha SMG!

Then perhaps CB should stop calling them 'starter' packs! Call them a 'key models' or a 'core models' pack, not a 'starter'. 'Starter' means 'good for a new player just starting out' in the US.

It's only 2 models, usually. And even with a decent player (he's new, but former Marine so he's good at reading terrain), I can usually get two kills with my Yan Huo.

Well, for what it's worth they aren't in US, and other than that human language isn't defined with precision most of the time. When you start a(nother?) playable force by adding some army-defined key models to your random assortment of universal models like REMs and line troopers, you can call that "key models pack" a starter :D

Then again, seeing that my faction is more of an exception than the rule with its universal line troopers, that "having universal stuff" part is diminished, making army-specific "garnish units" boxes more of a starter than assortment of playmakers you often get in appointed starters.

To @Section9 ’s point, if you go to the CB store and click the “How to Start” link it takes you to a page with the starter (and army boxes where applicable) packs listed for each faction as well as a link to the basic rule book and the classified deck. That strongly implies the starter box is where someone completely new to the game should look to begin playing any army. Heck, if you read the description for the Varuna pack it even says “This Starter Pack is the best choice to start collecting, providing the core units of any army list:”

I guess its a good way to "start collecting", but only because its cheap and it does "provide the core units", but not the core profiles of said units. So its technically a correct description, but the starters could nevertheless be done better and more effectively.

I think the better idea is something like the Operation boxes and the Beyond boxes. But that requires actually putting good models into the Operation boxes, which are usually sold separately as 'starter boxes'!

So, finally I played my first match with IA, the list I used was this :

    Invincible Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]10
    RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. (1 | 20)

ZHANSHI Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19)
    ZHANSHI Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 16)
    ZHANSHI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11)
PANGGULING (Minesweeper, Repeater) Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
CHAĪYÌ Yaókòng Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]5
PANGGULING (Minesweeper, Repeater) Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
CHAĪYÌ Yaókòng Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
TAI SHENG (Chain of Command) Mk12, Chain-colt, Stun Grenades / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (0 | 49)
    ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 34)
ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Duo, Tactical Awareness) HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (1.5 | 38)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

My friend played Varuna and the mission was Safe Area, it was a friendly match, I won easily 10-0 thanks to an amazing performance of my rui shi and Zuyong haris.
Some personal considerations : the zanshi link is good and the haidao is useful, next time I wanna try the MSV2 sniper profile, just to have another good long range weapon, zuyong with NCO and tactical aw. control the field really well and have good versatility, a good haris, can't wait to have the new starter just to play a full 5 men link.

Really like the list, have you thought about giving the HD to the Daoying just to take advantage of the two Lt. Orders even if you don't use them on Tai? You could apply supportware to the Rui Shi and re-camo "for free".

Good point, yes, I thought about the DaoYing hacker 'cause I believe it's really an interesting option, this was just the first test and after I've many other ideas, but I'll have a tournament very soon and this time I'll bring vanilla YJ, so 've not enough days to test both, but it's for sure an amazing option.
