The enemy doesn't need to shoot them with a gun but a Warcore camera can do much more damage. One Kuang-shi identified as Maya Reporter that spoke out against YJ and you have O-12 knocking at your door.

So, its not his error, its a players mistake.

Dissidents - its not a indulgence. I remind you that dissidents in YJ its a totenokai for example, who blew up YJ civilians, cause of which the Japanese lost their citizenship. Heroes of Gutiers Uprising, after all

A few citizens of YJ might be okay with it, but I can't see O-12, PanO, Nomads, Haqqislam, Ariadna, and anyone else in the Human Sphere thinking it's okay and would be sanctions on them for doing it. Doing something like Kuang Shi is just plain stupid. Even Wu Ming is a little iffy if it's not a volunteer thing.

Just for myself, I no longer use Kuang Shi, no matter how good they are. I may replace them with something that looks robotic in the future. I can at least go with that instead of humans. Some may like the "Evil Chinese Communists in the future thing" but I don't. I like to think of them as being evolved from that.

Penal regiments are not used much in real life only because they have very sketchy service record, not because they are frowned upon by other nations. I can almost guarantee that the other nations have nothing against the Wu Ming as a concept.

Sure, but what went on in Uprising was beyond that, because it wasn't just evil, it was *incompetent* evil.

If im not mistaken, Haqqislam openly legalized murder for the Hassasin and nobody cares. If you see Humans as an resource, murder would be a waste and YJ put them to good use / give them a second chance to contribute value to the society.

I can't say anything to the Haqqislam background. I have not heard that. I would expect that to also be sanctioned too.

There was an interesting, brief discussion about Zhencha, Cobras, and the design direction we're seeing with new Sectorial releases.

Cobras are awesome. Their profiles also focus on specific roles. Rather than getting utility loadout + mines, they're getting utility loadout + ballistic weapon:

    FO + Breaker
    KHD + Breaker
    X-Visor + Shock Marksman

The Sensor + Jammer + Assault pistol bucks this trend, but is also more expensive. The idea is that you're getting supreme utility, for the downside of paying 29 points for Damage 13 hits.

PanO players will be willing to pay this. It's a great loadout. But all of these Cobra profiles fit the notion of doing 1-2 things well, primarily focused on shooting. Forward Deployment L1, in my mind, barely classifies them as a midfield unit. They start further up the table, but the midfield role is dictated more by their equipment in this case, than it is by Infiltration, Mech Deploy, Airborne Deployment, etc. If VIRD/PanO players want an infiltrating unit with Specialist and Mines, they have to go elsewhere.

Zhencha follow the Yu Jing design philosophy of giving one unit a way to achieve many roles. Nomads are often labeled "the diverse force", but it was actually Yu Jing in the pre-uprising phase. @Stiopa explored this concept in a post a few pages back: Hsien isn't just an HMG with visor... It's an HMG with Martial Arts (and corresponding Stealth, Courage, etc.), direct template weapon, and some army-wide bonuses (SWC boost) depending on the loadout. It has link options available as well.

That's very Yu Jing. And we're seeing that notion returned to with the Zhencha. So it isn't two Wounds. Understandably, it's odd to see NWI instead of 2 Wounds. But the flip side is... Play the game. Plenty of factions make do with in-built midfield vulnerability. A Croc Man FO is almost as much as a Zhencha FO, and certainly isn't as survivable, and isn't bringing the same toolchest. Nagas have Dogged, and are less adapted to surviving Shock hits due to worse BS, worse PH, worse ARM... But I don't see anyone saying that Nagas aren't a good unit. My mech deploy Peacemakers die like nothing to antipersonnel mines. Penalty for mine, penalty for Dodging as a REM, means they flop over to the first shrapnel-laced stiff breeze that comes their way. This isn't bad design, or a veiled insult to the faction I play. This is game design and balance, relying on me as a tactician to get around these problems and try to get good results out of my unit on the table.

Overall, when I look at this IA midfield offering, I see a versatile all-comer with upped durability. That's classic Yu Jing. So you don't want to get shot with a mine. Or an SMG. Congratulations, neither does anyone else, and at least you have the superior stats to create a statistical improbability of even taking that Wound, if you play well.

Gutier: "we wanted to see more HI on the table, so we gave you fake HI (not you, PanO, you can still have your real HI force)"

Gutier: "oh, bollocks, the ENTIRE player base got me wrong with my depiction of YJ, but I assure you, guys, it's not like that, it's only my setting is too advanced for you"

Also Gutier: "there is gonna be major whining about this totally bland paratrooper YJ got, for sure guys!!"

Yes, his credibility sure is rising in my eyes.

@barakiel, both Nagas and Crocs have better and more diverse profiles than Zencha (also, TO camo for the Croc) and don't have the added vulnerabilities being labeled "HI" gives you. Make Zencha MI and give him a couple more profiles (Minelayer, KHD) and I would find it a really good unit

It is. People complaining about the portrayal of YJ in Uprising were not just complaining about their lack of morality, but their lack of competence compounding that.

Not all at once. If you take a Naga FO or KHD... By far the most common loadouats... You get a basic BS12 4-4 MOV Camo with mines, combi, Dogged. That's a lot less per profile than SMG, Flash Pulse, EXP ranged weapon, mines, climbing plus, and above-average BS and ARM for a midfield unit. Your typical Camo Infiltrator, in a single loadout, tends to have a much more narrow toolbox than what the Zhencha has.

As for the "added vulnerabilities", I think we mean singular vulnerability: Hacking. Is there another vulnerability that comes with being HI?

Considering how most players claim that the KHD has made the AHD obsolete, I'm not really sure what the problem is here.

If you do run into an AHD... Hide on a rooftop. Get Faerie Dust up. Make the enemy burn orders getting a Sensor close. More orders to lay a Repeater. More orders to attempt the Hack. Make it costly for your opponent. Play the game.

On a slightly different note, anyone notice that DEP? That's not a weapon I've ever been fond of. But with good BS and Surprise Shot, I might actually consider doing a Coordinated Attack with a couple DEPs a Burst 3 Yan Huo to scare a hardened target.

Ok, I'm a big fan of Imperial Army and the "HI Force" concept, but this here:

    THIS is bullshit.

When have you EVER seen an all-HI force for Military Orders?

Even the "Joan/De Fersen Death Star" draws heavily on LI and Remotes for orders. Every competitive Military Orders force makes extensive use of Light Infantry, Remotes and Skirmishers (functionally) in order to fill out lists and do what the core can't.

No matter what happens with the rest of the Imperial Army reveal what exists now is ALREADY a more "real HI force" than Military Orders, before AND after their modifications.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now, moving on, I do agree that having the disadvantages of HI without 2 wounds will sometimes be an issue, but it's certainly not a disadvantage for a drop trooper.

As for Skirmisher? I, too, still don't get why the Daofei isn't there to supplement, which would make everything else easier to accept.

    EM ammo is another vulnerability.

DEP is unusual, usually think of it as a Haq thing so I don’t have much experience with it in YJ. Have to wait and see what comes of it.

I'd say E/M ammo is bad news for everyone, not specifically HI, but I hear you!

Hackable is a huge disadvantage for a drop trooper. It makes creeping around in the enemy DZ waaaay more difficult. But Magisters are link filler and clock in at 22 points, which iirc is cheaper than anything YJ has.

Not bland. That paratrooper is LoL against most usual lists. Dakini and Unidron Batroid fireteams are suddenly a huge liability. And if Lx is Shock, then Devas can go on the shelf once again.
Yes. E/M weaponry also immobilises and not just isolates. You might've noticed, there has been a significant increase in such weaponry.
Regular HD and HD+ still have programs useful against HI.
Here's a small tip: Hacking works without line of sight, in cones of 20cm height and depth.
Won't really help you that much. It's nice, but still, do you dare letting them have free Hacks.
They don't need to hack Zhencha in their active turn. All they need is a Repeater or HD nearby. And then you can enjoy trying to activate.
