IA Spec Ops

Discussion in 'Yu Jing' started by Mahtamori, Dec 6, 2018.

?

Which unit do you think should be IA's spec op?

  1. Zhanshi, spec ops should be as basic as the sectorial can get.

I can't imagine them doing a Zuyong spec-op. Unless they make large changes to Spec-Ops. I was hoping we would get that with the new book. Again, assuming it's a Zhanshi, I would probably not link this guy. But I never had that idea anyway. He works alone. After saying that it sounds like he's Batman lol.

I would bet that Tai Sheng and Patsy are going to be released in a Dire foes syle box, if not an actual Dire foes box.

That being said, Yu Jing still lacks characters and Dire Foes compared to other factions so seeing a Zanshi DF that adds a new dimension to the zanshi link or a Hai Dao DF that could do the same and not count towards the Hai Dao wildcard limit would be great. A HaiDao Hacker+ would be a unique extension of the current profile, with a WIP and BTS buff. Another great opportunity for a character is a guy(any profile) loaded down with Black lab prototypes, xvisor, nanoscreen, regeneration, superjump, metachemistry, a plasma rifle, all the fun stuff.

I think the Haidao is a good comprimise on the Zuyong for a falvourful spec ops profile. I hope the next book revamps the specops idea and balances it a little more.

I'm willing to bet the next Dire foe with YJ will be when they come out with White Banner vs. Svarlarheima. They said they would possible do a new two army set with them.

i'm split between zanshi who are the most basic LI, and the zuyong which took zanshi's place in the IA Starter.
Also from back when Dire Foes were presented, generally speaking, as an alternate sculpt for the prior released specop...
if we have a Tai Sheng already then we should get a base customizable specop version too :)
or we'll get a zanshi specop followed by a zanshi dire foe :(

A Zhanshi DF might not be too bad if it follows the toolkit design of Xi and the Zuyong.
Minelayer, AP Mines, increased stats, TacAware and wildcard amounting to roughly 20 points could be a significant asset for providing some extra home zone control and fireteam filler.
It would also nearly guarantee being useful in White Banner.

They need to take Vanilla into account as well though. What might be ok for IA could be OP for Vanilla.

They do, but I challenge you to design a Zhanshi that's OP for vanilla.

As for a Zuyong or even Haidao, well that's a different story, but they're still contending with MSV2 Sniper Haidao and the Zuyong TacWare.

Hey I"m all for it! But for the sake of argument, are you talking killing power or button pushing power? You can make something that's a little too good and doing the missions.

All DF (I think) are button pushers as far as having a skill for it, so your true challenge would be designing a character that's both believable for Yu Jing (i.e. no Akbar Doctor :p) and actually being being good instead of costly

    Hmm, lesse....

    Gui Feng Dao Hai
    HI
    Cube
    Regular / Not Impetuous
    Hackable

    MOV 4-4
    CC 14
    BS 13
    PH 11
    WIP 14
    ARM 3
    BTS 0
    W 1
    S 2

Special Skills: Specialist Operative • Free Agent • Zero-G • V: No Wound Incapacitation • Minelayer

    Profile #1 • Breaker Combi Rifle+Jammer, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines, Pistol, Knife (33|0.5)
Profile #2 • Submachine Gun, Panzerfaust, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines, Pistol, Knife (24|0.5)
Special Fireteam. Wildcard Trooper: Gui Feng Dao Hai can join any Fireteam of the Invincible Army sectorial.

Costs are probably off a hair since I was rushing it a bit. But a defense-specialized Haidao-based Gui Feng meant to provide another tool for the ubiquitous Zuyong link while still being handy in vanilla.

Take a normal Zhanshi, give it a Nullifier, Minelayer, cheap DTW and FD1, plus Forward Observer. Can start the game with an 8-inch bubble of unhackables, up to and including a Daofei on the center line. Still fairly low cost and expendable forward screen for your DZ. Can do objectives. Is this OP enough to count?

The Muyib is a pretty beefy profile for spec ops.

I hope not. If we're getting our second DF, I'd rather it be with a faction that has only one DF so far.

All of them are specialists. Hasht, Kerr Nau, Konstantinos, Thracymedes, and Rosie are more toward the murder end.

The former even has Shock immunity + Nwi.

A very believable Dire Foe character, but you're missing the Shasvasti rule ;)

In all seriousness, I think that since the Nullifier is so cheap and only available to Tohaa and CA, it's got hidden restrictions which probably goes something along the lines of "Aliens only" just like Sensor has a hidden rule of "Rifle range or shorter only". Not going to deny that IA would be the faction where a Nullifier would be at its most potent of all factions.
Still, if you want to make it OP, then cut back on the expensive stuff and make a Nullifier carrying mook capable of tagging along with the Fireteam. Once you get near the field of operations, start sticking down nullers. Refill with the LSG Panggo when you get Unloaded.

As all Faction and Sectorials have all their Line Trooper Profiles available as Spec Op, there would be only Zhanshi and Celestial Guard. Both you can actualy choose for IA. But I would like to see the Zuyong and I swear it would not be OP ...

I think the whole Spec Op thing needs a complete new write over. With sectorials like IA and OSS the basic line trooper feels a bit ... unfittting.
The Thorakitai in OSS can not link, is a MI on its own. Deva might be a bit too much, so is the Zuyong. With the right limitations it could work.

Spoiler Alert: The IA has Zhanshi and Celestial Guard for SpecOps. ;)

If you mean Dire Foe, looking at Hasht it could become anything, that guy is nothing like a Seed Soldier and is even linkable with Gwailos, who he actually shares more defining traits with.
Haha, I just realized he even is a MI with a 4-4 MOV. So yeah DireFoes can basically be anything.

Haasht was based on the Gwailos, yep, because the Gwailos is the basic linkable Shas troop.
