    Hiya all, I've been working on a Nomad army project. It started in N3 as a way mostly to use my old models as Nomads seemed the most likely army to salvage old equipment. N4 came and I stopped playing as much, and my Nomads were pushed to the side. In the last month I've started a major effort to play Nomads in N4 in preparation for a large event at the end of this month. The key aims of the project were;
    • Force myself to play Nomads or a Nomad sectorial
    • Force a large hacking focus (I've been playing years and never really used it)
    • Force a large Guided Missile focus, find out how it works and how to counter it
I've played about 12 games so far and have a core list that I am happy with.

    Here is the current list, though it comes in variations which I explain below;

The army breakdown is as follows
    • 2x Moran Repeater, Jazz + Mary + Moderator Hacker, Guided Missile, Heckler Fastpanda or Hellcat DepRep
Deliver a wide repeater network, and capabilities to offensively deploy repeater areas. Run enough hacking to deter any attempt to attack me via my repeaters. Run enough hacking to ensure efficient delivery of spotlight via coordinated orders.

Jazz is extremely cost efficient. Mary has troubleshooting capabilities, deploys forwards (useful with such a cluttered deployment zone) and B3 Oblivion but is pricier than I'd like. Moderator is super cheap, a third ARO or spotlight for essentially 0.5 SWC and a meaningless points cost.

Heckler is absurdly effective at delivering a repeater. Almost unstoppable. Hellcat is less consistent and can be defended better, plus it costs 0.5 SWC, but it has better play when going second or against players who will counterdeploy or destroy a Heckler as a priority, as well as having limited extra utility attacking in rear arcs or stealing supply boxes etc. Zero DepRep is another option with better infiltration but without the ridiculous 8" range of a fastpanda.
    • Vostok MK12 MIM-6, Salyut EVO, Fiddler
A solid firepower unit due to the power of effective BS15 and MIM-6. When Fiddler is included it has resilience. The Salyut enables a Hellcat as an alternative to the Heckler as a repeater delivery piece
    • Fiddler + Zond, OR 2x Puppetbots, OR 3x Puppetbots (on area control missions)
Aggressive specialist with multiple bodies and wounds. Fiddler is preferred because she can counter skirmishers better with climbing plus and she supports the Vostok. Puppets are a solid lower investment choice and I take three on missions where I want to move them into zones.
    • Chimera or Morlock
Smoke and troubleshooter. Effective to clear mines and Koalas. Chimera can clear Morans and similar from rooftops, attack midfield or attack alpha pieces that end on my table side. I do not like to attack into the enemy DZ with Chimera.
    • Libertos
A reserve drop that can throw a wrench in a lot of strong first turn plays, like Andromeda, Uxia, Impersonator, or even beefier ones like bearpodes. List feels naked without it.
    • Moderator LT, Moderator, Puppetmaster Minelayer, Flash Remote, Jaguars etc
Filler profiles. Puppetmaster CounterIntel and Mines is good enough to take even without bots and sometimes takes 1 bot. The exact filler varies between variations on the list.
The mission set is; Supremacy, Frostbyte, Power Pack, Supplies, Decapitation.

Pretty much regardless of the mission, the list is designed to be able to alpha strike key pieces going first using the missile, or have defense in depth to survive if going second and use second turn objective advantage to pull ahead.

But there is a problem. This list is laser focused on using hacking and missiles, and struggles to do much else. This can be a problem when the opponent's strategy, composition, the table or the mission don't allow this strategy. Playing mostly on TTS, I encounter a lot of the same table type and reused assets, including a lot of buildings with multiple floors or walled roof areas which are a Moran paradise. This leads to entrenching oneself in certain patterns of play. When playing on maps without these things, or Frostbyte with its exclusion zone, suddenly my midfield is vulnerable and the key strategy becomes less effective. If I cannot use missiles to counter a sniper, for example if it is in marker state, the list can struggle to clear these pieces.

Also honestly and just as importantly, GML focus is shit gameplay for both sides, so long term I would like my Nomads to use it less and to see rules changes that hurt its effectiveness.

So I'm looking for advice on how I can modify the list to be more general purpose. What do players think is effective and how would they change it? The idea is to have one list that generally does what I am doing now, and a second for play on tables/missions/factions that do not support it, such as against Ariadna or on tables with big fire lanes.

It would be good to get a gun platform in with long range, but I can't figure how to do this without losing my Liberto, which is essential to stop lots of cheese. I'm also inexperienced at running a low hacker count with GML and Morans, and am not sure how much that could be cut and in what ways while remaining effective. Any input is welcome!

I'd say for any one that knows Vanilla, the moderators with combis are obvious Lts, and they're bloomin squishy. Other than that it's seem's quite fun.

Zero for the Heckler and REM Racer for the Moderator Hacker. RR will unlock shots on BS 13 for the Vostok or the Vertigo. As an added bonus none of your good hackers has less than BTS 6.

Obvious LTs are how Nomads works. Taking a dummy LT is the pinnacle of LT obfuscation that vanilla is capable of and the durable LTs are both not that great, expensive, and infeasible to take a dummy of.

Yeah I've been wondering about the Rem Racer since the Vostok is the only meaningful gun. BS13 over 12 is a tiny number but it matters when it has to run cover for the entire list. Problem is, the Zero is a substantial downgrade to nuke delivery since it lacks the highly skill-intensive fastpandas to teleport a repeater to target.

IMO the Zero is still the better option thanks to a total of three DepReps, E/M mines and the option to recamo.

This seems like a fun list. How does it do against mass camo?

Nomads are #1 and this list is a pretty strong variation, but not their best build. You do have a pretty awful matchup specifically against Ariadna, when they pull out the 2x Bearpode, uxia, and various camo skirmishers.

What are your recommendations to deal with the Camo/ bearpode list?

Camo tends to hate opposing camo as discovers break marker state. It makes for really boring matches however.
Obvious high WIP, msv and sensor aside, template weapons for intuitive attack and cheap aggressive pieces for baiting aros from camo troops are useful.
The bear is just damn nasty. Unless you can hit it with viral before it gets to you it will mess something up. Just got to force it to make saves and whittle it down. Preferably with a trooper that denies smoke coverage

I made this list as a sort of joke to see how much order efficiency I could cram in, but it may have some merits:

Has a good hacker-net (though, sadly only one hacker) as well as the ability to use single orders to move blocks of models at once. (and a couple MSVs to handle those camo markers) Wanna give it at try sometime

Honestly, it's pretty miserable to play with and against. I'm taking it or a variation of it to an event and then never again. It performs very poorly against camo lol, even with a sensor in the list camo is a gargantuan shit to deal with.

Lol how do they make it worse?

Re: Ariadna, MVD will always be a bad matchup for me so I don't think it matters what army I take. I am considering list 2 as a specifically anti Ariadna and camospam list but I kind of want to fuck it one list the event.

Maybe you can find a way to fit Zoe and Pi-well? They should help with the match-up.

Kovacs also seems like she was designed to hunt Ariadna. But I have little experience with her.
