Can guard be used to damage the AC2 in Looting and sabotaging or the servers in Mindwipe? The requirements in the Spanish rule book says guard can be used against enemy troops, In the English version it only says target. Thanks
All Guard is allowing you to do is perform a CC attack at range, instead of requiring silhouette contact. It doesn't change any other characteristic of the CC attack. So you still have to deal with the restriction for for the Mindwipe Servers: The Servers can only be damaged by CC Attacks with CC Weapons possessing the Anti-materiel Trait, with D-Charges, or with the Special Hacking Program: Data Erasure.and the Looting rule: An AC2 can only be damaged by CC Attacks with CC Weapons possessing the Anti-materiel Trait, or with D-Charges.
Thanks for your answer @solkan ! That's true in the English version of Guard, in the Spanish one the target must be an enemy trooper. This should be included in the FAQ to clarify which version is the correct one. Cheers
True, they should. But they’ve got a long running issue with type qualifiers on some of the targeting when dealing with structures, so it may not be fixed quickly.
@Mahtamori could you add this question to the list that should be FAQed? Is there any ruling saying which language has priority? Thanks
To be honest, the English rules for Guard seem consistent with the other CC special skills so I see little reason to add something that's not causing issues (whatever you think of what Guard does for the game's balance) to the tracker. It's a generally known issue with the rules that they write "trooper" instead of "target", especially for melee abilities. Was a much worse situation in N3 than in N4. Generally speaking, the Spanish rules are correct, but in this case Spanish version looks weirdly restrictive. I'd say this is more a question for the Spanish parts of the forums.
