REMs will be our friends I think. I wouldn’t be surprised if YJ got another remote platform for mixed links in IA.

I'm just hoping CB don't expect us to fill things in with sensor remotes to get beyond a limited insertion list size. Remote-mixed links would certainly help a bit, but without a way of getting a solid order base that can provide some actual ARO support, we'll really struggle to actually use some of these new toys.

The downside to being top heavy is that it means our specialists are also usually attached to pricey platforms, which means getting enough of them to fill mission roles will directly eat in to our ability to fight and vice versa. Without access to cheap things (and remote AVA tends to be low enough as to not make a reliable order order pool) that we can spam, our top end will either be order starved or poorly supported.

Part of the reason ISS is so good at fielding a list loaded with elite units and high-end troops is because of that magical 33/0.5 cost for 5 full regular orders. So far the cheapest IA can access that is somewhere north of 50 points (depending on how many sensor remotes they can spam). Not only is the Zhanshi terribly inefficient for a low end trooper, but we lack a lot of mid-range troops that tend to do specialist jobs in other forces which means we can't really translate spamming 11 point orders in to a cheap button-pushing base alongside a couple of heavy hitters.

This is the big risk with doing elite factions in Infinity, the game is super reliant on reaching a minimum level of action economy that you can't make overstuffed lists work. This is doubly true with IA since they have a good number of AD troops.

This is why I'm hoping Zhanshi can get shifted down to ~7-8 points (35-40 for 5 orders) or that we get some kind of new remote that can fill the cheap spam role the list is missing (and those will be easy to justify a low AVA in vanilla for). Alternatively, pulling an Aleph/CA and giving us a form of AI beacon would also work.

Either way, IA has a lot of high end troops and not much below that, but I don't expect to see that particular solution until much closer to release since cheap, spammable stuff doesn't really move money out of wallets, even though it is needed for these kinds of elite-heavy lists to work.

I doubt zhanshi will go below 10 tbh if only because of the impact on vanilla. You would have a full combat group for 85 points.

"Operative control unit", hey. I wonder what operatives she is controlling?

I certainly hope we are getting more than 5 units after the Uprising idiocy

Mowang with that loadout is a good candidate for Full Auto and at least I have interpreted hints that there's a Full Auto and CH unit coming due to the FAQ on Full Auto MOD stacking where it wasn't caught in testing the Kriza but suddenly after it had been released for quite some time it was.

5 new units is in line with how many new units Tunguska got as well as how many OSS bring to the table. What we might see, however, is slight optimisation on existing units (I'm expecting Guijia to drop in price by 3 points and possibly get a second load-out, for example) and from 0 to 2 named characters since those wouldn't really count as new units if we got Lu Bo the Haidao for example.

It's also impossible to see on the low-quality image the exact spelling of Daoying, but from what I can make out CB messed up the grave accent and acute accent again. Reflection, reversed (upside-down) image or inverted image does sound evocative indeed.
Just extrapolating from Fiday and adding the same percentual cost increase as the Daofei's Infiltration+Camo has, if this one does get Basic Impersonation (unlikely) and retains rough Zuyong stats, it would be in the low 40s. The more likely TO camo infiltrator template would yield a slightly higher cost of mid to high 40s considering that Infiltration+TO is ever so slightly more expensive than Impersonation. While I'd rate Holo2 to be much more likely, the forward deployment skill would dictate the cost a lot but it would be less expensive ranging from mid-30s for no forward deploying to low 40s for infiltrating.
The two most likely are IMO:
Holo1 "Hafzaying" and not unlikely home of Counterintelligence
Holo2 "Kanying" giving the Boarding Shotgun and minelaying profiles a marker state to ambush people with while Holo2 does give the sniper profile some misdirection shenanigans.

I still so badly want it to use overclocked holoprojectors for Basic Impersonation as it'd make for a very unique Impersonator that'd primarily use guns to assassinate and the Imp-sniper concept sounds hilariously dumb in my head.

Yep, but I’m not going to take any CB statement as fact until the sectorial and all its units drop. Things change.

This is Yu Jing in a nutshell since uprising. Flavourful, expensive HI options all over the shop, a bunch of over priced mid tier cost units, and very limited cheap options to fill lists.:face_with_rolling_eyes:

I’d hate to see an AI beacon style order in IA. Been done and a bit boring. I think the idea of an expanded remote presence in the sectorial could be very thematic and cool. I agree though. I hope it’s a bit more compelling than increased AVA on sensor remotes.
I think someone mentioned the idea of TR baggage bots in a link some pages back. A TR combi in a haris with two redesigned Shang Ji? A CQB focused HI duo with a pet remote to protect them in ARO? That’s something that could be really compelling in the sectorial.

Yes Tunguska and OSS got 5 units, but they didnt get a third of their units wiped from their roster.

IA seems to be shaping out to be just what I thought: cool, but bad on the table; also, lot of cool mega expensive models you won't be able to play because there are no cheap models to balance them. It seems it will be like WM's Khador, where all your game options are "hit things with an axe, although the axe has different colours".

I had faith in CB, but sadly we are not Nomads.

There's some Kriza DNA on the back, but I'm not sure I'm fond of the handle-bars that keep popping up on Yu Jing models lately.

We had 9 point Keisotsu for 13 years. They obviated Zhanshi in vanilla but never made us overpowered while we had them. Making Zhanshi cheaper and more efficient won't break the game (and in fact, needs to happen now that vanilla only has a single good order option and IA needs a cheap order option). Considering Zhanshi will also be the mainline troop in our next sectorial (White Banner) they are in need of an actual fix now, more than ever. We've coasted by on having the Keisotsu around for a stable order pool, but the Zhanshi needs to stand on its own as a decent expenditure, and to do that it needs to actually become efficient to offset Yu Jing's predilection toward over-stuffed high-end HI and mid-tier specialists. The Zhanshi rework is over a decade overdue at this point and simply sticking them in a sectorial where they can possibly link isn't a panacea to what is wrong with them.

As an aside, there is a chance we haven't seen all the units yet. There was a rumour (or possibly a direct statement from Carlos) about another transformer in IA and unless they're keeping a second form under wraps for what we've already seen, nothing in there fits the bill yet. But at this stage, another pricey high-end isn't needed, so that potential transformer needs to be a low-end or efficient mid-cost unit to make an impact.

If IA is the January release i hope there are more reveals coming during the rest of this year or the hype will be short-lived

    I hope too.

Anyway, the new S5 HI seems really inreseting, good weapons.

I expect some reworks to some of the existing profiles to make them cheaper. Zuyong should move to 1 wound and become a hackable equivalent to the USARF grunt. Lower a few stats a little and drop kinematika. And make the Zuyong something in the 16-20 point range.

Lol, wut? 1 wound? then what's the point? It's an army based on HIs and 2 Wounds is the defining point of a HI.
I have a much better and likely idea: drop Zuyong cost by 2 - 5 points and give up on nothing in exchange. You think it's not possible? Then check new CSU's profile, compare it with Brawlers and try to tell me that again. No matter what they say, it's clear there're costs adjusted by hand and that some factions/ sectorials get discounts with no other reason than because they are so cool that they deserve it.

Totally agree with you, anyway I prefer having a 2W HI than a with a reduced cost HI with 1 wound .
