So GenCon 2022 has already been marked as where the next C1 2player box will be revealed.
Best assumption is that it will be Haqq v Aleph.
With each C1 army, other than O12, being a sectorial in N4, who do we think the armies will be and what will they compose of out of the box (not full range... just the 2player box...

I'm thinking Steel Phalanx v Hassassin Bahram.

Seems likely, both are getting a little long in the tooth, and hassassins did get a bunch of new profiles in N4, as well as the new small format tag which would give them a new tag release vs repackaging the maggie

I'd say both Hassassins and Qapu Khalqi are viable options for the box.

    • Some of the Hassassin models available are of N2 HS-era vintage (BSG Fiday, Al-Djabel, Farzan BSG, Barid, Ghazi Muttawi'ah, Lasiqs), and some of the more modern ones haven't been released at all.
    • QK, despite being quite popular with the player base, is now officially discontinued. While CB mentioned they intend to keep about 3 active sectorials per faction (well... not a rule set in stone - we have to remeber that), soem pretty crucial QK models that are no longer available. In fact, of the troops I'd ballpark as sollidly QK, only Djanbazan seem to be still available (with the N1-era Djan Sniper being the oldest model in the Haqq range). The Odalisques are sollidly N2 CP-era (well, they are available to Dahshat, too), Hanissary HMG is post CP, and only Janissaries box, Druze, Kaplan, Bashi Bazouk and Yuan Yuan are up-to-date (and that's because they're part of other sectorials. Same applies to QK Nomad allies). ...Yeah, I forgot to mention the ubiquitous Ghulam and REMs.
Personally, I expect the Operation / Beyond Operation box to be a mix of Haqq troops, covering both QK and HB, but leaning more toward QK. I don't think CB will go in with a 4th Haqq sectorial (be it Khanate, or someting we totally don't suspect).

Having said that, I guess we might expect a new set of SioCast Kameel baggage REMs within up to two years.

As for the Aleph side of it - yeah, Steel Phalanx (if with some add-ons) seems a pretty safe bet.

While the code one army list and the beyond box shall have Hassassins, I hope the Operation box will be QK. QK needs some love as
    Possible Haqqislam side:
    1. Three Ghulams
    2. Jannisary HMG or AP rifle
    3. Sekban Spitfire
    4. Djanbazan Sniper
    5. Yuan Yuan Boarding Shotgun.
The Beyond Box shall probably have Yara, a Nadhir, and a Shujae.

I have no idea what the steel side will look like.

I'm not sure about the Ghulams. There are basic Ghulams in the Haqq Action Pack (the Haqq side to Op: Red Veil & Beyond Red Veil repack), they are up-to-date technologically, and I see replacing them as more truble than it is worth.

On the other hand, there aren't that many basic line infantry troops in Haqqislam who could fill the post of "3 basic Order Monkeys in a starter pack". Most other Infinity armies seem to have a different basic infantry for each of their sectorials - and Haqq are the odd one out. I mean, sure, there's a plethora of various LI in Haqq (they've been always seen as the Light Infantry faction), but none combines the affordable cost and wide array of equipment options typical for a basic leight infantry as Ghulams.

Then again, there are precedents. The old QK starter had 3 Hafzas as "basic line infantry" complement.

Steel Phalanx side... my guess will be along the lines of the 2gen SP starter, which was:
    • 3 Thorakitai (Combi, chain, LRL),
    • Agema ML
    • Myrmidon hacker
    • Eudoros
Of course, we may see 3 differently armed Thorakitai. Or 3 Myrmidons. We may see an Ekdromoi. We may see a Dactyl. We may see any of the characters.

Keep in mind that these days an Operation pack tends to contain 7 models per side, one of them often being a big one (S5). Ajax the Great seems like a natural candidate for that role on the SP side. And an Azra'il resculpt (or even a repack...) on the Haqq side.

I would like to see something new like GK - Khanate, but I'm not sure that will happen (if it did, I'd hope to see a biker in the Beyond pack and Halqas as troops).

I'm not convinced it will be HB, which had their starter released in 2017 (newer than QK) along with the SP army re-pack - although one could tie the two together from this. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing more HB models and maybe make the Farzan a little larger (she's so tiny!). There are a decent number of models in HB that could use a resculpt even though they still look good (I still prefer the older Muyibs).

Then we have QK, with Hafza as the line troops or even Odalisques since we have the Spitfire model already (ie we won't be seeing an SWC box anytime soon as they only need SMG, Rifle and BS). For QK I would hope to see the HMG Janissaire somewhere, maybe a fifth Kaplan, Sekban and a gentle smattering of Al'Hawwa if we're lucky. However, since they've already released Yuan, Djanbazan, Kaplans, Druze, Nomad models etc etc, there's very little left apart from S4 remotes and Rahman.

So this then leads me back a time to the Icestorm box, where Nomads had a mix of models such as Reverend Healer, Spektr / Grenzer and Mobile Brigada, and the Beyond with Kriza and Intruder / Hellcat - just about covering all three sectorials. Will they do this to cover the missing models from both HB and QK, or have they stopped mixing sectorials in the 2-player boxsets now ?

I guess, despite all that, it's a win for me (and CB) as long as it's Haqq :) Although I don't really want to collect yet another Faction, I'm already saving as I think I will just end up picking all the pre-order stuff up - I'm sure Steel Phalanx will look great.

Well, let me see what is and what is not there for QK. With the caveat of possible new profiles / loadouts:
    • Ghulam. Up to date.
    • Djanbazan. The box (HMG, Hacker, Marksman, Doc) is up to date, the Sniper is very old. No basic Rifle model currently exists.
    • Janissary. The box (ML, Doc, BSG) is up to date. The HMG is somewhat long in the teeth. No basic Rifle model currently exists.
    • Alguaciles / al-Waziri. Up to date.
    • Yuan Yuan. Very recently updated with a rather generic loadout (melee weapon, whough she carries a CR on her back. Which is essentialy all YY needs IMO...)
    • Druze. An up-to-date box (HMG, Marksman, Hacker, do-it-all Chaincolt) exists, though some options lack representation.
    • Scarface & Cordelia. Covered.
    • Najjarun. covered by the current Haqq support box.
    • Mobile Brigada. Up-to-date sculpts (Icestorm-era) exist.
    • Haqq Remotes. Up-to-date.
    • Iguana. Well, it does exist, even though it is not a new sculpt. But I expect it to be far behind in the update line.
    • Odalisques. The Spitfire model is up-to-date, the box is Paradiso-era.
    • Bashi Bazouks. Two up-to-date models (SMG & BSG) exist, the Combi / EM Mines one got discontinued. I wouldn't be surprised to see a generic Rifle Bashi (able to stand for the Combi / Spec. Operative Rifle+LSG / AP Rifle) to appear. Maybe even have the EM Mines one downgraded to Rifle.
    • Hafza. No models in production.
    • Azra'il. No models in production.
    • Al'Hawwa. No models in production.
    • Nasmat. Covered by the Haqq Support Box (up-to-date)
    • Kameel remotes. Long in the teeth, expect to see a re-sculpt in Siocast in forseeable (if not near) future.
    • Kaplan. Up-to-date box (Spitfire, Sniper, ADHL, Combi) exists. No model for the HRL, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a dedicated Doctor model.
    • Sekban. No models in production.
    • Characters: dr. Rouhani has no model. Given Jazz's example, he's a prime candidate for a Dire Foes release IMO.
We might see some of the models listed to get discontinued prior to the operation release.
IMO this makes for a decent starter composition:
    • 3 Hafzas,
    or
    • 3 Sekban (yes, they are Medium Infantry - but also kinda focal forthe QK fluff-wise)
    • 1 Djanbazan (Sniper or Rifleman)
    • 1 Janissary (Rifleman or HMG)
    • 1 al'Hawwa
    or
    • 1 Bashi Bazouk
    • 1 Hafza (if 3 Sekban), or 1 Sekban (if 3 Hafza)
    • 1 Azra'il as big guy & focal point miniature.
Of course, it is possible that some Hassassin will end up mixed into that. Or, possibly, Hassassis will cover the Beyond box.

Zhanshi got a resculpt in Kaldstrøm despite being the same age as the Rifle Ghulam, Fusiliers and Alguaciles were a couple years older but still good CAD sculpts and got themed resculpts in Kaldstrøm and Crimson Stone

With most of the C1 armies, it's a Sectorial in N4, but the C1 versions also have some units tat are not in that Sectorial. I picked HB cause I think they could cover all grounds.
To me, QK is all about it's mixed fireteams, that is something that you can not showcase in C1.
Granted, that's what "logic" would dictate...

This is pretty much how I see it too. The C1 list would have to show a "fair enough" balance of all of Haqq while giving minis that are for a Sectorial in N4.

I wonder what the pre-order miniature will be? Maybe a Warcor?

Maybe a REM Racer? We had a Warcor as a preorder exclusive in 2018 and another in TAG-Raid

If the box contains the Steel Phallus an Aleph version of Hippo would be really cool, even if that would be her second time as a pre-order exclusive, and her fourth miniature!

I'm still saying Haqq vs. Aleph. I'm not going to say if they are sectoral or not. they seem to steer clear of making them specific sectorals.

So far the pattern has been that the named box & beyond (aka the parts that will be eventually split into the 10 model action pack) are all one sectorial starter, then the booster packs bring in models from other sectorials. (pano-o and yujing are Sval and WB starters, Everything from Crimsonstone & beyond is in Kosmo or Correg, etc)

Except when it wasn't, Icestorm and Red Veil. Icestorm as I explained above and Red Veil, the Haqqislam side at least, being mostly RTF models except two of the three in the Beyond box being HB. It's interesting to see what is still available from these in the store as action packs etc, could be a reboxing is due. But these were earlier releases, so maybe they have now decided it is better to stick to a sectorial for those enjoying N4, with the large box release for Code One?

They did say that the Haqq figures in Red Veil "just happened" to all be RTF. RTF actually didn't happen until two years later if I remember correctly. and the Beyond RV was not all RTF.

I do think it's possible though, like RV, the majority of figures for Aleph or Haqq could be in a sectoral but not all of them.

Cheers, I wasn't sure of the dates when I was typing that, but it was something of note to the previous comment. I do hope this new box is a single sectorial each, it makes collecting a lot more direct and simpler than to try and sell on a few models or buy into multiple sectorials if you're like me lol.

Icestorm and Red Veil were the first two Operation boxes, and there were also fewer Sectorials back then too. Red Veil was specifically called out during the preorder by CB as a Ramah starter, and Beyond Boxes weren't a thing until the following year either which explains the disconnect between Operation Box and Beyond (this was also years before Action Packs existed).

Since Red Veil the only Operation & Beyond set that hasn't also been a Sectorial starter is Operation: Wildfire, as it was the launch of O-12 has a faction and wouldn't get a Sectorial until the following year.
