Hi, played our first Aristeia game yesterday, I would have a few questions:

    1) During attack the attacker can be damaged by the defender, even at range?
i.e. Major Luna can be damaged by Miyamoto Musashi from 6 hexes away, even if MM doesn't have any attack to hit her so far away?

    2) How many times a character can use a switch? Hex3r can displace herself once for every Shield+! she rolls, or just once per roll?

    3) As above but in regards of abilities: how many times Maximus can use his ability to displace himself when a friend is targeted? Every time?
3b) What about Musashi's Ken no Sen switch? Every time it counts as targeting a model (so every time Maximus can displace? -assuming Miyamoto and Maximus are on opposing teams).

    4) When a status comes in effect? Immediatly when gained? Or at the start of a character activation?
4b) What about Parvati's switch? She gain a +2 to initiative, but she's already activating. She will never use the +2, just +1 on the next activation, as at the end of her activation the status will turn on blue side.
Unless... she can gain it outside her activation? i.e. while defending?
Also, can she have more than one?

I'll give a re-read to the rules later, and probably I will find miself the answer to most of these questions. In the meantime, thank you :)

    I will attempt answers

    1. Yes, an attacker can be damaged by a defender even at range. I think of of it that the Hexadome can project damage to the attacker as the crowd supporting the defender retaliates.
    2. Hexxer can displace herself as many times as she has :1::3: to spend and remember that switches go first. That is very important .
    3. Maximus' Implacable is an Automatic Skill which means it is always in effect. So that every time an attack is declared against an Ally other than Maximus himself he has the option of displacing himself. Of course he may choose to stay exactly where he is especially if he can be in a position adjacent to his Ally so that he has the option of using his other Automatic Skill "Get behind Me"
    4. Statuses come into effect immediately when gained. I cannot think of any exception. Parvati's 2+:Y: will flip to 1+:Y: and the end of her activation so that ordinarily unless she gains the status as a defender most times it will be just 1+:Y:. There is a new character Eclypse that can flip states but I personally has not seen her use this with Parvati. I believe only the states of burning and poison allow more that one of that specific state to be on a given character.

Aristeia seems like such a simple game at first but the myriad of interactions make it complicated. In general pay special attention to the exact wording on the cards and the exact sequence of events.

    1) Yes, on a Combat Roll both the Attacker an Defender can suffer damage :4:. Every character have a Contender Attack (1-8 :L:) so does not matter if Mushashi is a Close combat specialist.

    2)
    • As long as you can spend the required Symbols, you may activate a Switch more than once.
    3) Automatic skills are always active and you can make use of it every time the requirements are meet. Maximus can displace himself every time an enemy declare an Attack against an Ally.

3b) When Miyamoto activates Ken No Sen switch he declares a new Attack so Maximus can make use of Implacable.

    4) Inmediatly when you gain the State Token. But depending on the Effect, i.e. You start your activation whit 5:E: and generate 5 Action Points, if during your activation you gain the -2:E: States it will have no Effect in that activation becouse you have already generate the points.

4b) You are correct if you gain the +2 :Y: during Parvati Activation you will only benefict from a +1 :Y: on the next one. To have the full +2:Y: she need to gain it on a defense/brawn roll.
    • A Target cannot be under the influence of two or more instances of the same State, unless otherwise stated by the State rules. If a Target would be given a State they already have a token for, remove the first State token and add the new one, red-side up.

Just remember, everyone has a gun, the contender. That's the fluff rationale for damage at range, especially for characters that don't have an attack printed on their card.

I once had my hexer, target of a called shot, one shot Lunah off the board. Talk about luck!
