This thread is simply designed to compile my ISS lists that I plan to develop and use in the near future. I hope to see where my gaming experiences take me and how the lists develop as i become familiar to the faction after many months away.

I invite people to take inspiration, comment or simply read the updates as they come in. I kindly ask that you do not bring negativity or arm-chair game design into this thread. I fully acknowledge it's a public forum, but nonetheless this is my appeal.

The aim is to have roughly a game a week, with a new list being tested each week. My style is to force myself to constantly try new profiles and list synergies, i will endeavour to avoid constructing lists with similar units/synergy

I'll jot down some thought behind each list before playing them.

Having said all that, I present "New ISS"

This is simply a generic list, the scenario will be Quadrant Control. However, i do not feel confident enough to build the list for a specific mission just yet. Therefore, I've simply attempted to cover generic infinity list building principles. B5 HMG, back up gunfighter (SunTzu/DakiniMSR), Assassin(Ninja), templates to avoid warband rush(Kuang Shi), hacking device to help deal with TAGS/HI and marginal ARO presence.

That's a great idea. Godspeed, my ISS brother in arms.
(do you mind if I copy your idea and draft a personal voyage on the new sectorial?)

Went up against Starmada in Quadrant Control.

I did not use the list I previously posted as I had written this list since, feeling it was better suited for the mission.

    Link teams:
    CG + 2 KS
Dakini + Taowu + Xi Zheung

    Holomasks:

    Taowu - Crane Hacker
    Kanren - Sun Tzu v2

My opponent ran Parvati/Hector/Epsilon HMG *Harris backed up by a Varangian Guard deep into my left flank and my forward zone. Managing to bring down my HMG TR bot and nothing else.

Starting my turn 1, I moved Ninja HD into group 2 for free. Revealing it to kill a Varangian guard with SMG in the back. Then the remainder of the turn I pushed my Rui Shi to engage a Flash pulse bot to no avail. Before using smoke to allow Taoiwu and XiZheng to push on my right flank to support poorly deployed Ninja. Sun Tzu went on suppression fire to try impede/slowdown the Hector harris - huge mistake

My opponent immediately capitalized on my mistake. Throwing smoke onto the epsilon and engage Sun Tzu with B5 HMG through smoke. Even though we were within 16 inches, I could not hit as I was - 12, whilst he was on 10s. He manage 3 hits and crit, killing Sun Tzu in one order. He then proceeded to kill the ninja and Rui Shi, before deciding to go for the jugular and sending Hector into CC with my "Crane" - I revealed to be Taowu and monofilimented Hector off the table. My opponent managed to kill both LTs in his turn which was pretty funny.

However, the damage was done and the writing was on the wall. Having managed to secure himself 3 OP turn 1, starting my turn in LoL, i was up against it, event if I could do sufficient damage to get a foothold in the game, I was surely to lose on scenario. I did all I could, killing the epsilon with 3 nanopulsers from Taowu and throwing away Xi Zheung to double template Parvati and a Raptor who dodge/made armour saves. My dakini won the f2f against his 5 man linked Kappa but he managed to save his on armour and remain over watching the table sealing my fate.

Turn 3 he didn't need to do much but control the zones, whilst I had so little that could engage that I managed to simply stem the tide.

    6 - 1 to Starmada.

    Big mistakes:

Both my reserve drops - Kanren and Ninja were very poorly deployed.
Deploying my ninja on a rooftop really restricted where he could go and engage.
Sun Tzu suppression fire was the game changes, i should of done the maths and realised he had the perfect unit to engage Sun Tzu with and give me - 12
Not going all out to kill Hector turn 1 as he was over extended.
Not taking on the Kappa with Dakini HMG turn 1 as that Kappa proceeded to keep me locked down all game

Lots of work to do, but I think there is hope yet, Taowu has proven himself lethal in the right circumstance and Sun Tzu needs more care and attention.

Well, killing Hector with Taowu I believe it's a huge success. And these mistakes are only experiences for future matches! :D

When making my ISS haris, I've been really liking look of the CG Monitor, Tao Wu, and either Adil or a Deva Spitfire. It's a nice tight little group for advancing and being aggressive, but it should have something like a TR bot or Lunah keeping them protected from a motorbike or something.

Have you felt like your lists have been missing a premier HMG like the Hsien? He's been in all my lists but lately I've thought I could probably holomask Sforza as the Hsien to force my opponent's head down turn one and use a Su Jian Spitfire's mobility or Dakini HMG to break out of my DZ.

I have not had near as much time to play ISS as i wish. So I can't say I've been missing the Hsien, but I've not been drafting him into many lists. Often preferring a Dakini HMG + Rui Shi + EVO to give me that 4 dice gunfighter. Though Hsien was my favourite profile in N3, so I am sure he'll be reassessed in good time - I am predicting premium HI to be back in vogue with the changes.

That is indeed a fun link team suggestion - could I ask what you suggest holomasking Tao Wu as?

What are your thoughts on the Kunai Ninja?

I think you touch on a very integral part of ISS holomask bluffing is a powerful tool, which I plan to explore - you had much experience?

    My next list!

    Testing the Hsien.

The list is built to provide synergy around Hsien. The idea is to allow the Zhangying to maximize it's sixth sense and hacking via Hsien's tinbot. The +1 SWC allowed me to lean heavily into fire power, hence the Rui Shi, Dakini and Kunai MSR presence, I am trying to maximize the value of the Hsien before eventually peeling back as needed. The Rui Shi will provide repeater presence as they move up the board furthering my repeater presence and attacking platforms. The sheer number of REMs was sufficient to justify the inclusion of the Sophetect, which I personally rarely field.

Oof, yeah some good Sun Tze v1 learnings in that earlier game. If you do run him, he's more of a late game piece - I'd never put him where the opponent can see him on turn one, but if you can trade a few high burst weapons he can go on a rampage on turns 3 and be pretty hard to kill. It's almost worth taking the boarding shotgun to get out of the habit of putting him in suppressive fire, though that could still be very hard to shift if covering an objective on turn 3. (Often suppressive fire looks better on paper than in practice... you spend an order to set it and your opponent has all the tools in his list to break it, range > 24, grenades, smoke, hacking etc. Sometimes just moving a full move-move back with that suppressive fire order is better... as your opponent has to spend an extra one of *his* orders to get to you!)

If someone does shoot you at -12, don't forget his dodge and flash pulse options... you'd still be rolling at 5 on a flash pulse at -12, 8 in 8-24". Dodging vs smoke would be at PH 12, so a better option than getting shot if you can dodge prone or out of LoF.

Suppressive Fire in an exposed position is only a good idea if you are 100% okay with losing the piece (speedbump).

@valukr thanks for sharing the play experiences here. Good to see how this stuff tests out for you, with your own playstyle.

    Game Day!

Got a chance to bust out the ISS for a game of Decapitation against some MO.

The opponent I faced was experimenting with a Joan Crusader link. It also had Mendoza and a peacemaker. A difficult list to manage to play as it takes a careful balance. Nonetheless, we had a game

Seeing as we decided to play Decapitation, I opted to adjust the previous list somewhat to remove specialists.

Winning the roll, I chose to choose side/deployment. My opponent went first, deploying the crusader link roughly in the middle of the table.

I realises straight away that i could not possibly expect to win f2f fights with this and any ARO presence would have to be speedbumps. I deployed both Designated targets on opposite flanks, meaning that the opponent would have to split his link if he was to get either. Fearing an alpha strike, i left dakinis standing as last gasp speed bumps, but mainly relied on the repeater range of RuiShi/Zhangying who were all prone, with Rui Shis covering flanks.

My opponents reserve was Mendoza on a rooftop, lookng down onto a RuiShi just seeing it's base. My reserve was HMG that meant the Mendoza would have to engage both unless he spent and order to split move before being able to split the pie. I used a command token to put the Rui Shi on suppression fire too.

Game begun and my opponent spent 3 orders to try kill the Rui Shi. Landing one hit each, both passing out saves. Eventually opponent pushed crusader link into the middle of the table. Killing on HVT with a peacemaker. Last order of the turn Mendoza went after the RuiShi again, only to be crit and die..

My turn 1, I moved one of the RuiShi into main group. Threw smoke to cover its approach to the link team. Getting within 8 of a Hospitaller, i proceeded to Isolate him, before activating my ninja to surprise attack him, winning the fight but failing to kill and doing 1 would. After this I put down the HMG hospitaller with the RuiShi and moving into base with the hospitaler fighting the ninja(he reset) - I activated the ninja again getting b2 to insure the fight went my way. My RuiShi was in ZoC of Joan/Doctor, i chose to suppressionfire, which was a big mistake as both of them dodged out of ZoC and begun their turn 2 safe.

My opponent had to stem the bleeding but had a couple of problems to deal with. The Hsien had pushed up the table on the opposite flank, threatening a rampage turn 2. The RuiShi was on suppression fire and there was still a hacking presence he didn't have an answer for. He killed my RuiShi and Ninja before patching up the HMG, who rejoined the link.

Turn 2, I used smoke to cover the yudbot who got to the RuiShi and repaired it. The RuiShi proceeded to put down by not kill the HMG again, as well a BSG hospitaller and flashpulse. Eventually dying to Joan. The Hsien took out a warcor and a turret and was in a strong position for turn 3. I also moved my dakinis in position to slowdown any and all advance my opponent attempted towards my other HVT with his limited orders.

Turn 3, opponent made a desperate run for HVT, but having to kill the 2 dakinis left him short on orders, forcing a risk against my TR bot.

Turn 3, i killed both HVTS with Hsien and Joan with TR bot.

The list felt good, there was a lot of obvious synergy and I did not fear having model go down as many were REMS. Smoke is extremely important to the list. This is good and bad, it means that deploying the CG+Dakinis is likely best to be central, though that limits the effectiveness of the sniper rifle as it thrives by shooting on a diagonal to maximize range advantage/mim. Ninja offers a problem solver

Would be good to test against a more rounded/traditional list

One of my favourite tricks is masking an unhackable troop as a hackable one; in Tao Wu's case, he can mask as a Celestial Guard hacker. Opponents will generally try to avoid bringing their hackable troops into your repeater area if you're showing a hacker, and if you're lucky they might even blow their linked Pitcher ammo trying to put repeaters down in your fake hacker's ZOC and try to Trinity them. Since you no longer have to reveal the hackable status of a Holomasked trooper until your opponent declares a Hacking Attack on them, any programs other than Spotlight automatically fizzle due to an illegal target and the order is wasted.

I like the Kunai as a neat little meta choice against Fort Asshole links. I wouldn't take the MSR, but the SMMR starts in a nice position, and marker state Climbing Plus is very good. March the Kunai up the table towards the link: if they Discover: shoot them, if they Delay: keep moving. When you get to the building they're hiding on top of, either start climbing up, or go around it and start stabbing link members.

A couple Ninja profiles can do something similar, just try not to walk into too much crossfire and get yourself caught in a Discover/Delay trap.

I have yet to play a game with them with the new rules but I feel like they are better off than they were. I still want more tools missions but that's about it. While they are not the best for winning for me, they at least seem fun. So next game day I'm going to be using them again. I just wish I had some dakini and devas. I seem to have them in every list.

    Hi all!

I'm back in ISS and i find my self faceing interesting question - do i need sophotect\dakini paramed or not?

While building my lists - who needs some meds:
Kanren - these boys find their end some where in midfield\opponent's side - so i spend more orders trying to heal them(
Crane - if we lost him in DZ, i'll spend all my time, trying to kill those, who finished him in my DZ- if it was during ARO-turn(of course we hide them well). Another place - midfield\dz of my opponent, the same i spend more orders trying to heal them
Hsien - those poster boys like to shoot from dz in dz(i prefer only HMG options), and then lay on the ground\behind the wall until next turn. If i've got bad luck, maybe i need some medic. But if my opponent rush my DZ - we have same case as with crane.
Su Jian - one way ticket, we need sophy just to spend about 4-5 orders to find kitty in enemy's DZ, i think worse it.

So, what's your opinion - do we need medics\engs in our army? or we need so new profiles?

In my lists, Dakini medic is for pushing buttons. I don't expect to actually heal anyone.

I only take Sophie in missions that require points on a board. But not all of the time.

In ISS we have no engineer besides the Sophotec. Not that I need them often, but I like to have them just in case, especialy if I go with much HI.
The paramedic can solve the medical part very well. In a support haris it can bring the precious Hsien back on his/her feet. That means a lot.

I had a situation, that my Hsien got crit-AROed. A Sopho in second group put him up on his feet via Yudbot and he could finish his job and lived another active turn.

Apart from this Sopho is a specialst that can walk through single-AROs (normal ammo) and finish an objeticve. If I do not take her, I take a paramedic at least.

Enigineer is very important skill to have in ISS. We have su jian, rui shi and linkable dakini. Maybe with a rework ISS would get more engineer considering mamy YJ units getting it. I'm ok with only one doctor option as faction defining feature but now engineers are much more common.

    Interesting discussion.

I been playing ISS a fair bit recently, without updating my own thread - whoops.

one of the things that I noticed is that we don’t have much staying power and board control. But that starting to change, I think Kuang Shi and Wu Ming are our control. As well as Madtraps and such.

The reason that’s the case is because both those models can take a hit and stay in the fight.

I think Sophie and Dakini paramedic both have a place and definitely add value to a list. I don’t know about you guys but I am always reaching for the Dakini HMG in a Harris, so adding a Dakini paramedic there is a no brainer

To make use of the double post. I don’t think we need doctors or engineers. I mean sure it would be nice and totally a power up. However, I really think the faction is just hard, not weak.

You really need to consider close the list cohesion above any particular profile I am feeling, which means there is a time and place for Sophie, it’s not always
