For extra hilarity; if you're close to the people you intend to hose down with that HMG/Spitfire, declare Discover without stealth. Change Facing shenanigans and Discover+Shoot shenanigans in the same order!

Don't you need an MSV2 for that? Discover doesn't have the No LoF label.

Obviously the declaring trooper needs an MSV2, since you can't perform any action that requires LoF from within a smoke template. The idea is to "fish" for enemy MSV2's that can see you and are in marker state (mostly, the Intruder, since the Asura H+ is something you know it's there) or MSV2-3's that might or not have LoF. No ARO? You are safe to assign 0 burst to the target you wanted to Discover against. ARO? Full burst to that target.

To be fair, you’re not merely ‘denying your opponent the ability to hold their reaction’ you’re ‘providing your opponent sufficient information that they can make an informed reaction’: there is no reason they need to delay their reaction, because they know what they’re reacting against.

Ie you’re voluntarily forgoing the most significant advantages of the Marker (forcing your opponent to make decisions about his ARO options without knowing the full picture) to achieve something else (forcing your opponent to react after your first short skill). This seems like a reasonable trade to me.

Removing Surprise Shoot seems unnecessary and needlessly eliminates Discover + Surprise Shot.

I use a similar strategy with my Marut. It also allow you to reduce the risk of auto-failing your shot because you fail discover. If possible, when my Marut shot, he will discover his next activation-target (not generating ARO from it) then shot a non-marker target.
