I totally concur with the aforementioned idea that 100% Originality is nowaday an almost impossible, unattainable result. . .

I'm involved from more than 30 years in the relatively niche of Italian Comics Industry and My "Mentors" (Renzo Calegari, one of the Pioneers of importing 50's U.S. styled Comics Format in Italy, and Enrico Bertozzi, who studied "Cow Boy" related art in the States in the 60's, with REAL American Ranchers and Tex-Mexican "Vaqueros", just to be the more realistic possible in representing "Wild West Movies" in Illustrated Art) had ALWAYS said:

"Today there is No More Originality; Visual Art is as a multi-ingredient Soup where every single Spice is yet well known by the Tastebuds; but You can as well ALWAYS improvise a new manner to cook anew an Old Recipe. . . . .!!!"

I personally thinks that even a Super-Classical Trope / Idea / Character Style is still enjoyable IF it is presented as a well-done "Newer Dish" (to continue with the Culinary Analogy of before !!). . .

Is very, Very, VERY difficult to find something in "Sci-Fi" Manga / Comics (the OPENLY declared "Inspirational Genome" of ALL Infinity Conceptual Art) that was not YET represented in a Videogame OR a Movie OR a Toy (such as "Overwatch" Characters that seems more "Action Figures" than believable "Cyberpunk Edgerunners" !!) and the same in reverse, as I could try to find at least 5-6 successful "Sci-Fi" Characters that is quite difficult to NOT think were ripped-off from C.B. I.P. by some lazy Oriental Artists (I'm thinking about the Chinese / Indian Virtual Graphics Art Community, far lazier than Japanese / Koreans !!). . . . .

The very first Art of A.L.E.P.H. done more than 10 years ago, the "Violet Haired" Posthuman in a "Dancing Pose Unleashing Arm-Mounted Nanopulser" by the excellent author David Grier was ALMOST indistinguishable from LITERAL Hundreds (if not Thousands !!) of similar "Homages" of Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost-In-The-Shell of Masamune Shirow, BUT (for Me at least) did NOT detract from the idea that Corvus Belli wanted to convey of "Super Badass Special Forces Cyber Gynoid". . . . .!!!

I think too that the "Bad Aftertaste" of many Forumites in regard to "Suicide Morlocks Squad" is related to the too invasive brand recognition by DC Comics for their "Counter-Offensive" against the "Hyperpower" of Marvel Movie; and THEN compunded by the, at best, "lukewarm" success of the Movie (that I found, on My own, FAR superior to "Justice League", that was at best a bland copy of "Marvel Avengers 1", on par with the awesome "Wonder Woman" but this could be JUST my "Acquired Taste"). . .

Corvus Belli is almost "Forced" to pump out well-thought Concepts on almost a MONTHLY base, to compete not with the unattainable Games Workshop (that is a true "R.W." Megacorporation churning tons of Unoriginal Stuff still buyed by "Legions" of Fans) but to rival with other "Smaller Scales" enterprises that would try to create a solid Base, "Worldwide" with the Seattle-based Privateer Press that exceed from Steampunk Fantasy into "Hi-Tech Stuff" (such as the ENTIRE Mecha Contingent of the Elves of the Retribution, that could be safely coloured in A.L.E.P.H. / Combined Army / Tohaa style and almost dropped on an Infinity Table !!) and ESPECIALLY on the saturated European Market, where there are ALL manners of competing brands, from the quite diffused French-borne "Malifaux" to other even more unoriginals ones helped by the diffusion of easier 3D modeling Tech. . .

I personally don't care if the "Miniature of the Month" is something that was ripped from another Media, if it is well done. . .

If someone is expecting that ANY upcoming stuff is a TOTAL 100% Original "Brainstorm Birth" where Bostria and Carlos have spent many sleepless nights to try to convey is PERHAPS a disservice on "Useful Working Hours" that could be otherwise better employed to keep afloat, healthy and amusing the Miniature Wargame Company that We ALL Love and Appreciate. . .

    . . . . .

I don't want to sound upstarting, but perhaps if some "Unoriginality Detractors" wants a Future Upcoming Miniature done in a different manner, why they not open a Poll saying:

"I would Like April 2018 so-and-so Coming Piece, created with JUST a nod to this YET extant C.B. Copyrighted Minis and not something taken from outside"

IF this is well done, then perhaps the Creative Staff of C.B. could consider this; their excellent evolution towards Full-3D Printing would allow easier Modeling for someone that would say useful Feedback like:

"This Haqqislamite Heavy Infantry could be like a Pan-O Orc or Yujing Invincible, but also with a clearly flowing Arabic Desert Cloak, like an Oversized Khawarji or Tuareg"

    Or also. . .

"I found the Alternate Maximus EXTRA Cool; could we please have some Myrmydon Specialist that ALSO sports an Hoplite Helm and / or a Spartan Round Shield. . .??"

Or even ask directly for Homages such as:

"Can We pretty, Pretty, PRETTY please have an Hardcase Officer that seems John Wayne / Clint Eastwood / Gregory Peck / Will Smith / Denzel Washington / Idris Elba in their best Wild West Flicks"

(In case You are wondering that last references is 70% of Wayne-Peck movies, the earlier years of Mr. Eastwood career, "Wild Wild West" for Mr. Smith, "Magnificent Seven" for Mr. Washington and the awesome "Dark Tower" for Mr. Elba). . .

    . . . . .

Sorry for the Log Rant !!!!!

I don't mind the inspired models too much. The Morlocks are the first ones I didn't like simply because they were a lot less subtle than previous inspired models and they don't seem to fit the unit fluff as well. They are also just boring compared to a lot of the CB sculpts so it's more that I am disapointed with the whole package than upset that they are suicide squad.

Pretty much agree with Cry of the Wind. Keep it to homage, and not blatant ripping it off. Sforza is probably one of, if not the most, well done homages.

Rosie is pretty bad too. Like... I don't even think that whoever wrote that understands the cultural significance of Rosie the Riveter over here, on any level.

I don't think a non-American who wasn't from the period could grasp it, tbh. Aussies certainly couldn't. We don't venerate stuff as much as yanks do.

To the rest of the world, she blends into the rest of the global propaganda posters of the age. And I was born at the tail end of the hippy generation.

Hmm very interesting thoughts here. Id say im ok with well done homages or inspirations, but nothing to directly stolen in its entirety unless it gives us something super unique. Other things, like the faces, im ok with copying so we get more precise facial details. And as for senor massacre, i just let him slide cause i think he's actually deadpool who just traveled through some multiversal warp portal that pooped him out in the infinity-verse and hes just making the best of the situation.

It's not even a matter of being from the time period, it's also that she's been adopted as a symbol of women's rights/women in the workplace in general since then. There's a cultural context to it that was missed.

It’s an exaggeration of course. But its my impression, that we’re seeing less dynamic poses, while there’s a slight power creep in models.

Power creep as in better stats and skills or certain poses and sculpts? Also I just ordered the new kurgat Morat because I need an engineer for my MAF and he is considered to have a dynamic pose, which i dislike to say the least. So dynamic poses are not always good for me but I generally like them.

Also if by power creep you mean that new minis have just better cost for what they do, then I totally agree. One of the main reasons that make me hate a game is power creep that is intentional and that’s the main reason that I hate GW products.
“Let’s make this unit overpowered so everyone can exploit it and buy that miniature x50 times. Nice, now let’s release a FAQ fixing this unit and saying that the exploit was not intended. Next step: laugh at our customer base”

At least C.B. will revamp old sectorials, and old units like Tarik get new abilities. If they don’t forget of old profiles and they at least try to keep them up to date then I am most satisfied.
I just realized that I got ranted away. Keep the thread going please.

Agreed. Corvus Belli is by no means GW. I just hope they stop their course down the slippery slope. N3 is too good a game :)

On some inspirations I don't mind, but the Suicide Squad Morlocks does seem a bit of a mis-step. Setting aside the Hot Mess™ that was the 2016 movie seemingly built just so Batman vs Superman: Three Hour Trailer For Justice League made sense in comparison, as people say, they don't quite fit the faction too well.

But more obscure/cult media references are fun IMO.

The morlocs get a lot of flak for being the Suicide Squad, but they are literally a bunch of super-powered villains being used as a suicide squad by questionable good guys. The reference fits although giving not-Harley a hammer was dumb.

    And the movie was fun.

I honestly don't mind the references as long as they don't fundamentally change my psychology of what I am buying. Here is what I mean, I love those highlander rifle models, but when I look at them I see highlander rifles that are made to look like some Scottish movie references. When I look at the morlocks I don't see morlock models that look like suicide squad, I see suicide squad miniatures. From this there are two reactions, the first is are there other S-S models I could use as substitutes, the second is im not playing a DC miniatures game, im playing infinity. Both of which leave a bitter taste in the mouth (not hating on DC batman, just saying)

The best acting in that movie was done by Margot Robbie's shorts.

The Druze hacker also has that hairstyle, and with the blue hair, looks more like the one Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy favours in her show looks.

I see there's a take on Kaauri Sentinel, who are the rest though?

The entire story of them cleaning their previously unwanted stocks of new stormtroopers, whatever they are called, was hilarious and so obvious that even my inner skeptic refuses to take people claiming "a coincidence" seriously.

For those not familiar with 40k, imagine if CB would do something like:
"Hey, remember those new unidrons* nobody wanted for years because Onyx* was fluffy non-competitive garbage* with no character behind its visual or gameplay design* on top of it, made worse by the fact we have thrown old, more sensibly sculpted minis some people were fond of under the bus? Well, they now have full-sized plasma rifles and cost 8 points each."

    *after a few months*

"Oh wait, that was a mistake, here's the errata that gives them their carabines back (at least by default) instead of rifles and point costs are reverted to sane and safe. Take our apologies."

    * - this is just an example and by no means reflects my opinion on unidrons, Onyx, their design or viability.

I'm not even sure what do they have in common with supposed prototype besides the name.
I don't see any similarity, the context is completely off, and... that's it?

I'm just a "new" player ( year and a half) and can't speak from N2 times, but you truly belive infinity as power creep? ( Apart of some people pissed by full auto).

It has, but some of the oldest units are still the most powerful. You could argue that a lot of units were just bad and should have been replaced. It could go either way from here.
