They are rather poorly equipped. The loss of grenades and 1 arm for a chain rifle make them poor at offense. The heavy pistol is kind of rough when you are BS 10. Their profile needs to be relooked at.

No arguements there. Though I suppose I should clarify my opinion a bit more. As game wise every other dog warrior has better overall equipment than the devil dog. I was implying it more from having a full uniform and armor, as well as access to proper firearms. Heavy Shotgun and Heavy Pistol.

But only getting one chainrifle and no regular grenades really puts them beneath the other sectorial options. The syncronized antipode really does not help make up the difference at his price. I'd have loved to see him get either regular status or normal impetuous/frenzy to really set them apart from the other two. Even martial arts lvl 1 would have cemented them as more dedicated cc unit that can more reliably win fights.

Yea I would agree here. Honestly, they are really kind of poor units. The heavy pistol is always under utilized because of the low BS and no cover bonus. A single CR is way easier to take on a desperado. CC requires the expensive antipode to make it in and still doesn't skew the results that much in your favor. All you have is an expensive and inferior Dog-Warrior that usually loses engagements.

My wish list has three profiles:
    Up the BS to 11

25 points for Solo dog CR and HP
    32 points for HS dog
30 points HP, CR dog with FT duo with antipode

MA1 would be pretty cool as well.

Yeah, there's reference to the 5th Regiment in Newport, 116th during the Antipode Offensives (presumably an actual USMC regiment that was part of the original colonist contingency) and that's about it. Pity, we don't hear about quite a lot of what presumably must exist in the Ariadna military (naval units, battle tanks, artillery, logistics, airpower).

No, 5th Regiment of the 116th Armored Cavalry division would be an army unit, not a USMC unit. (116th Cav is my home state's National Guard unit) If someone meant the 5th Marine Regiment, it'd be written as 5th Marines.

Marines only had a couple dozen regiments during WW2, and they've been down to 3+1 Divisions for ~12 Regiments since.

Sorry about that, but I wrote that a bit vague: it seems to refer to two separate units: A 5th Regiment in Newport, USAriadna, and a 116th Regiment that fought at the wall during the first offensive.

Then again, CB's unit notation is a bit inconsistent, the Devil Dog is listed as 2nd Battalion in some materials, but 2nd Regiment on their unit logo. Maybe confusion over how some older European regiments were closer to the size of American and modern Battalion-strength?

OK, 5th Regiment could be a Marine unit, but again, when you're writing about the 5th Regiment of the USMC, it's written '5th Marines' the way the Army would write 82nd Airborne (even though the Airborne is a division).

That's indeed how it's written, actually, my bad: "It is also home to the 5th Marines regiment" it says. Bit about 116th says "The 116th Marine Regiment was responsible for holding the line at the Battle of The Wall against the First Antipode Offensive and subsequently their descendants showed the highest tendency to be Dogfaces."

Maybe the USMC got very big before the Dawn missions, or some numerical nonsense took place somewhere.

I think its just CB not knowing how regiment naming works or they got confused with the army. :)

Most of the regiments and divisions that exist in the army are still around because they are historic. Many of them popped up during the Civil War. At one point there was a division X, then when the army got smaller the deactivated, but the linage can be traced back there so if they reactivate them there is history behind the unit. That is why there are so many gaps in the numbers for deactivated units. Many were deactivated because they were no longer needed. The Marine Corps was never that large and the closest they got was 25th. Both the army and Marine Corps are structured very differently now so they would likely never really need to go that high again.

5th Marines were at Belleau Wood in WW1. That is where the line "Retreat Hell" and "Come on you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever" comes from. Also the term Devil Dog was adopted there. That one at least makes sense. Like section 9 said, the 116 was an army unit, its likely they got confused.

Yea there is no written record of it so it is not clear where it actually started from. I think it is actually far more likely someone read something and the telephone game took over. LCpl Schmuckatelli finds some German dudes letter the describes the average trench soldiers fate as "treated like dogs and condemned to hell" misread it and said "they are calling us Devil Dogs" and then the name stuck.

The true origin is likely lost to time, but it was adopted after Belleau Wood. Hence why it is likely 5th Marines was included in the fluff.

Trios are not fully sentient, you want a bigger pack for that. It's also the reason why the Assault Packs numbers 3 antipodes + controller.

That reminds me: Now that we can have 4+ antipodes in one list, what happens if you put them together?

Or someone from Ariadnan High Command just said: "We need Marines. Why not just take Dogwarriors for them and Name them Devildogs. Just for the lulz".

Is the Ariadna faction book the one that comes in the USAriadna army box?

Lol you get a dog that drags sensor around with it. Gets access to b2 CC has higher arm than other dogs and a range attack option without a template which is increadibly important for forcing poor choices on the opponent.

DDs are great and a definite go to choice amongst the australian USARF players

The issue is that the DD is not specialized at all. Sensor is not very practical on an extremely impetuous suicide unit. The pistol is just an okay option option because of low BS and lack of mods. 1 arm is way less useful that B2 CR and grenades. He is also expensive. The shotgun is pretty good except you have to pay even more.

He has a lot of cool abilities smushed into one profile that don't support each other. Most of the models he fights he will lose to in F2F gunfights and CC fights for his weight class. He isn't efficient as a regular dog because of price and lack of weapons. DD is only used because that is your only option in USA. As stated before, the desperado does the same job for a fraction of the price. 2 Desperados with 2 AP are always more useful and still cheaper.

Also of note is the Strelok K-9 who is hilariously better in every way. She can use cover mods, has ambush camo, and can shoot with both the dog and the girl. She has FD2 to make up for the speed difference. She can surprise attack with the antipode and get B2 with a -6 mode. She costs 6 less points.

No, but she still does the devil dogs job better. Her existence basically means there is never a reason to take the Devil Dog in vanilla.

Remember that they have "historians" on staff. They thought they were being funny/clever about it.
Same thing goes for the Marauders(their unit designation is the same as Merrill's Marauders) and a few other bits and bobs.
