I was referring more to the TV show than the book. They're surreptitious with them in the show, switching to living actors for closeups. They (RealDolls) pass well enough in the background for real (if unconscious) people, especially if the DoF isn't wide enough to reveal them. Certain (US) Special effects houses have been known to use them for specific (non-designed) purposes - they are as poseable as actual people (they have an internal skeleton with joints).
@Pen-dragon : just don't use liquid Silicone Glue on Resin Miniatures. The poor things are slowly cracking and breaking. I just ordered replacement LHosts to start over. =/
Clear resin would be my go-to. It's hard to get right, and usually requires the use of a vacuum chamber or pressure pot but in the case of a stasis pod, the bubbles might work in your favour (the +ve/-ve pots are to reduce bubbling which results in a less than transparent casting.)
You're right! All those stasis/recovering chambers in fiction always have bubbles, and since that's the hard part of doing those clear resin jobs this should be literally as easy as mixing and pouring it on the tic tac boxes. Also it shouldn't damage the minis.
Here's the almost finished product, sans the LHost Pods. I still want to add little posters like the ones you find in hospitals with a Nurse shushing (double points if I find one with cat ears), and an Advertisement poster for Hecatech LHosts. Pods for healing those who didn't die, but require a dip in Snail Slime.
Awesome! Purely awesome! It is good to see that my collection of tictac containers can be put to good use after all :D For filling the Tanks... why not use "K Watereffekt from NOCH? I know it is a bit more expensive, but that resin cures cristal cler, and I never had troubles with bubbles... even without a VACC Chamber.
In the first post, she commented that they were from the (now defunct) Spartan scenics medlab set of terrain stuff.
Finally done! Sorry for the delay in posting these. By chance I found some plastic containers with glitter at a store and bought enough for all the LHosts. The round Pods are more "Traditional Sci-Fi" anyway. This is the Chamber's Final Configuration: And these are the LHosts in their Pods: I tried adding a bit of blue wash into the Resin mix, but when the test came too dark I chickened out and adde too little to the final batch, so they look like they had any wash in there at all.
Try to use a permanent marker pen on the outside (but test first with other plastic). You can remove the marking if needed using some alcohol, but I'm not sure if you can apply varnish on top.
Looks great!! What resin did you finally use? It almost is a shame, that you only can view them indireclywhile they are on the board :D
