Sure, I agree that one wants to avoid bad trades in general. Walking a Gecko around the corner to see a single unit in chain colt range is quite useful. If they dodge, shoot them with your main gun. If they shoot you, chain colt them. In ARO, well, it depends very heavily on what the context is. I guess my main point is that gear that diversifies attack/defense options is good. I think Chain Colts on Geckos are good for this reason--they let me do something that I could not before. I am not attracted to hyper-optimized profiles, in general, and am more than happy to pay for "bloat."
DTW are great both on cheap disposable plataforms and on units that can take a hit on a trade. Everywhere else they are very sketchy, unless said troop is in a position that it is a goner anyway. It is also why they work as melee deterrent - anything that is not a melee specialist that gets in combat with one is pretty much in the goner position.
Sure. Definitely have to make the decision in context. I think in general we're on the same page though, at least in terms of wanting to have the option to make the decision.
