I'm going to actually set up my own personal image sharing server to have full control and zero ads, although i guess i wouldn't survive anything getting viral...
If you only serve static data, direct from a filesystem (or equivalent), it should be fast. More so if you use a lean web server. Bonus: enable a referer policy (after all, you should know where you post pics) to cut down in usage (and bandwidth) by third parties. I'm a bit rusty, but saw some "OMG, they are still up, incredible" as most people already went for everything dynamic and were uncapable of going with simple methods that are enough to get some bytes serverd.
You have pretty much mirrored my thinking, but i had forgotten about doing something for the referrer thing, good catch. Then again the only uploader would be me, no one else, so this might limit 3rd party usage from the beginning, but better safe than sorry, yes.

Facebook is a downright atrocious choice for hosting pics though, they do all they can to intentionally break stuff used for other places, they don't want anything getting out of their walled garden, and @mittenninja pic just doesn't show up at all
Some extra conversions, Home made Cube Jagger, change on left arm to hold monofilament CCW. Second Bandit (family pic). Both have their legs swiped with Nomad Spektr (starter) and new Sineater. Also rifle was changed for a nomad model. CSU, Grenzer body, Fusilier arms. Order Sergeant, also fusilier arms to get an specialist. Hope you like them.
