I'd agree, defining it isn't easy. For me, it comes down to this... Once we have a ruling that seemed clear/obvious/common sense to us and the ruling proves us incorrect, where do we go from there? It's happened to many judging by these threads. How can anyone accept the next 'obvious' conclusion as anything but a guess. How can we dismiss it when someone else thinks the ruling should be different, as in not obvious to us?
