That's probably the most important point. Don't go where the bad guys can DEP/'faust/whatever you. Tanks are open-area killers, they hunt in the steppes and farmlands. Infantry hunt in the cities.
I never understood how B1 weapon on lousy infantry could be TAG hunting weapons. TAGs are better in the shooting game, and with B1 weapons, it's even true in their reactive turn. And in ARO, you are just hoping for a lucky roll.
Coordinated shots, out of LoS shot, out of cover shot, DEP good range is HMG 0 range, surprise shot, shot with visual modifiers, etc,etc.... Because of the penalty to dodge, if you can stack at least 2 of this you have a good chance of getting some damage in, its not all about who throws more dice and has higher BS.
a DEP shot in the back is pretty much death to a TAG, even if it's within 8 the TAG probably won't be dodging it. While it probably won't kill it in one go, the TAG now has to make the difficult decision tot urn around, possibly exposing itself to more fire or stay put and try and ignore someone behind them. TAGs are pretty easy to sneak up on if they're left in the mid field, while their height is an advantage on the active turn, in the reactive it's a lot harder to tuck yourself away in a corner and be safe.
Tbh it's not really at all, EXP+AP is horrible but most TAGs are saving on what, 11s? So you'll probably take 1-2 wounds, not so bad, and they're one shot weapons so they can't do that again. In general though yes do not get snuck up on, if your TAG is surrounded it's probably dead. The real killer is a HMG in the jacksy mind.
The point of AROs isn't to kill enemy pieces though -- your odds of winning the roll is going to be pretty low, generally. The reason that those B1 weapons are scary is because the risk if a TAG does lose the roll is very high. No one is going to suggest using them in the active turn unless you have almost no other options.
AROs are limited in B but the amount of AROs you can make is unlimited and therefore the advantage of high damage low burst weapons is in mass AROs, where you chuck smoke and get four Daylami into position where if a TAG moves it gets pinged with four Panzerfausts. Or something like that. The ultimate anti-TAG weapon is an AHD, because it works through walls and you can get a free TAG!
The point is that the fight hurts and hurts bad if the dice go against you. Good play is a lot about not just taking the best odds of killing thr opponent but know when not to pick fights that hurt if they go badly. Fighting a daylami Pf and losing with a tag hurts a lot more than fighting it with a fusilier hmg and losing. At the same time. Fighting a sniper rifle and losing with the fusilier hmg loses more than if you fight it with the TAG. Use tools in the right situations
BS16 TAGs they say.... *calculates estimated point cost* Ehm no thanks that makes shit really unaffordable. BS14+ is friggin expensive as is. BS16 would be anywhere in between 5-6 points more expensive on it's own. Not to mention the cost for Camo Skills scales with BS somehow. Not sure people want to pay 90something points for their Tiks, 110ish points for their Uhlans and pay the same as an Avatar for a Cutter. Then again BS16.... Mutts and Posthumans are a thing.
