Alright, I know to begin with the N3 book and the Human Sphere rules but where do I go from there???? Even with the power of the google machine I find it hard to get into sync with what is going on in the world of Infinity as a new player.

It would be amazing to have a place to go to see the history of events on a time line that described what the Frack is going on and when.

What about all the downloadable rules on the Infinity site?
    • There is "New Rules" 1.3 and also "Rule" 1.8 (That is really confusing as a new player)
    • Where does the N3 FAQ v 1.4 fit in with those rules?
    • Are the N3 and Human Sphere pdf's up tod ate with these rules already?

What are Dire Foes and how are they used?
    What are the Bootleg things?
    When did Kurage happen?
What is the uprising and when did that happen?

    When will ITS 10 drop?
Does every Season of ITS need a new classified deck?

What about Campaign: Paradiso Paradiso? What is this all about and is it still relevant?

What else should I know about?

    Thanks!

    Welcome!

New Rules 1.3 are brand new rules released outside of Rules 1.8. Rules 1.8 are the core rules. 1.3 contain new ones like Fatality, Marionette, etc. The order you would want to learn is Rules v1.8 -> Human Sphere N3 -> New Rules 1.3 -> FAQ 1.4. Also the Infinity the Game Wiki is very handy and the troop profiles abilities can be clicked on for easy access from Infinity Army. I do NOT believe that the core rules are up to date with the faq etc.

What are Dire Foes and how are they used? Dire foes introduce new characters (1 for each side) to their respective factions to be utilized in army creation and also provide a narrative scenario, and some fun dossier artwork.
What are the Bootleg things? Bootleg is purely for painting.
When did Kurage happen? Kurage Crisis was an online campaign that happened last month.
What is the uprising and when did that happen? The Uprising was the removal of the Japanese Sectorial Army from Yu Jing and set them up as their own faction under Non Aligned Armies. The story line progressed which included the story in uprising book about that secession. It was an update to both game rules and mechanics for those two factions respectively, and fluff update.

When will ITS 10 drop? ITS10 drops right after Interplanetario this weekend (Aug. 17-19th).
Does every Season of ITS need a new classified deck? No, last season they just replaced one card type (Retroengineering became Kidnapping). There are rumors for a deck replacement this year though as the current deck is...very old.

What about Campaign: Paradiso Paradiso? What is this all about and is it still relevant? Campaign Paradiso is a N2 book that has not been updated. The missions are very dated and do not fit well into the current rule set, but the Spec Ops do, as such people will sometimes create their own campaigns using those specops and army upgrade rules.

What else should I know about? It is important to stick with the faction you like and learn. When getting games in, do not worry about the order by order so much as learning what you did wrong with that order, and looking at what you could have done AFTER the game. There are so many variables that you can easily get analysis-paralysis in the moment which will halt the game. Do NOT BE AFRAID TO LOSE. Infinity has a steep learning curve, and you need to stick with a faction, learn the game, and figure out your playstyle. If you jump factions a lot you will have a hard time truly mastering the basic concepts as you learn the different nuances of each faction over and over again. Play the game be decisive on your action, and be sure to run an after action report with yourself. Do this and you will become better.

EDIT: Something I do a lot with new players, is break down my actions as I do them, including the math.
"I am going to spend an order on this soldier, move him sideways out of line of sight, to the wall, and then slide along it to get cover for this shot. I am at good range, +3, you have cover, -3, you have Mimetism, -3. That makes my net -3 from BS12 a 9 on 3 shots. -Roll dice in open-"

With regards to the Classified Deck the Corvus Belli marketing director confirmed there will be a new Classified Deck out next season, but old decks can continue to be used with some card substitution. The new deck will also have new art for the cards.

Thanks theGricks for setting a fellow gamer straight on these matters. The added tips are great advice.

From what I understand "The Uprising" is just a fluff book right? Where the new rules just placed into the wiki, Army builder, and main rule books?

Would it be wise to wait on the Campaign Paradiso book? It is mentioned in the ITS rules.

Also, for ITS 9, for a league, it says there are 8 missions to run a group through but only 6 of them are in the PDF. What of the other 2?

Honestly you don't need any of the books, between the Wiki, FAQ, and the Army Builder everything is online. Uprising doesn't even have profiles in it because they decided the PDF and Army builder were sufficient.

I'd hold off on Paradiso unless you're a completionist, it had some nice ideas and you can see the kernel of what became ITS in it's mission design but it had aged and was written for the previous edition.

An ITS League uses any 8 ITS missions. The six listed scenarios are for the Escalation League option.which only has 6 rounds.

90% fluff, some upgraded old missions (Dire Foes) and a small amounts of rules, but all rules all downloadable for free on CB's site. Not worth it if you have no interest on the fluff, and if you do I'd suggest going for the RPG book as a better option.

The wiki is a thesaurus, so to speak, of all official stuff. It is official, and paid by CB. Per official declaration, the Army has preference over the PDF profile document.

Not really worth the money and time to read, nothing is current there aside from specops rules and the less used extra of the ITS (campaign... I saw it ONCE in 3-4 years of playing). It has some scenarios, but it even uses units that no longer exists as such (Ko Dali as Yu Jing character instead of her assimilated form in the CA).

    So no, don't buy it.

nope, it says a League is for 4+ players and they will face in 2 to 8 rounds. That means they will play 2 to 8 games, and it uses any ITS mission on the PDF (from Annihilation to the last one, whichever that is). The one with 6 rounds are Escalation Leagues, which are another type of league.

The RPG books, the print versions of N3 core and Human Sphere N3, and the Uprising book all have substantial amounts of fluff.

I would personally grab the RPG book for fluff/lore. It goes into the faction's planets, population, government, etc. That might go a long way in helping you choose a faction or sectorial to collect and play with.

The RPG books are an amazing source of lore. I bought the books because I wanted a physical copy of lore and artwork.
