Epic! Some got my reference. Here is my mini for now, until tomorrow. Note there is still more to do on the chrome but I am done for tonite. Slap the like if like
Sharingan! Today's progress after I used my eye hacks to copy Angel Giraldez. I tried to copy the free hand of Angel and tidied up some of the chrome and orange.
I really appreciate that you show so many WIP steps. Definitely inspires me to give such large area masking a try
Alright the finished product. Sorry I did get alittle lazy in the end but here goes. Which Tag do you all like better? I know I still have to do a soda can at the bottom of the yu jing tag.
@Bitmochi I recognize those Nomad bases. Forgecraft Games Waterworks. I have a nice amount of them waiting to be used. it is a shame that their creator died and the store was shut down. I'm waiting to use them for something special or create molds of them for unlimited use. Tell me how did you get the water on the Iguana TAG's base? I've been trying out different technique but can't seem to get one that I'm satisfied with.
Ya those bases are from Forgecraft Games Waterworks. So for this one all I did was sand out the water plastic water like part of the mold and then I painted it a blue and then poured Vallejo water effects, and then immediately take a brush a swirl in a little Coelia greenshade. I am very thankful that you have taken interest in my tag. So I just started painting again and man I have a huge amount of energy for painting now. I really want to start competing at painting competitions.. just to compete I dont think I can win anything more than a bronze realistically but it would still be nice to try and learn from higher level painters. At the same time I have doubts of my ability and maybe I would just embarrass myself at these things and maybe I have too much love for my own stuff.
For my own sake and any that are interested. I did learn a ton from painting that last tag. I have never used liquid mask to that extent before, mainly because the blue vallejo mask has in the past ripped pieces of the paint off. This new purple liquid mask I tried thanks to the recommendation of a great painter is amazing. The purple mask comes off super easy when you want it too and it grabs to it self well so you pull off large chunks at a time without hurting the paint underneath. Very cool! Also previously every time I used liquid mask I would have to use an old brush and basically destroy the brush in the process of using it. Well I came across a brush called a shaper and it has a soft rubber tip. This makes applying easy doesn't ruin the shaper or a brush in the process, it also doubles as an effective way to start peeling off the liquid mask when your done. Once I started peeling it I used small tweezers and would rip off the rest, it works fantastic. The touch ups were very minimal and really only for the parts where the mask didn't cover or I had to black line to pieces that were coming together. Another lesson is I really need several different size base holders. I have a small base holder for 30mm models but I need one for this guy, as handling the model while painting didn't work out well. I did some minor damage to the edges of the tag and had to clean stuff up as best I could. Also painting bases before hand is a double edged sword. Having 20 bases painted up is really motivating as it makes me feel like I have 20 models that are half way done and ready to look awesome. On the other hand it creates a unique problem in that if the model is already on the base I don't want to airbrush it with a painted base. I got around this by placing models on crap GW bases pinned their feet but not applying the glue to the pin in the base just to the feet of the model. The models are on these GW bases loosely, and after painting them I take sprue cutters and cut them off the base and then drill a hold in the new painted base to put them on it. Unfortunately the Yu Jing Tag was already on a painted base so I just wrapped the base with a plastic baggy and tape, this wasn't as good as the feet couldn't be hit with the airbrush. I was lazy on this part and instead of doing a long manual brush blend I slapped a quick blend on there and used rust colored pigments to hide the sloppy blending. Lazy I know. I also had a few errors with my airbrush on the legs but left them because I was too lazy to fix them. The good thing about this model is it was painted for table top use and I feel like I have a nice enough model to use on the TT but not so nice that its going to be a shelf queen for life like my Yvraine model. I really pushed the highlights on this guy and pushed my airbrush skills to a higher level, all in all I am happy with the model. Epic model ! He used Airbrush, he used brush blending and freehand. Slap the like button if you like, for this Epic model. I approve! :)
Have you invaded my sanctum and stolen my secrets? Ya its Humbrol's Maskol Thanks man I just checked your work and really really like it! Its super enjoyable to see a paint that has skill give me praise.
Done for the night. I had a debate with myself if I wanted to use the airbrush to do the nmm on Sun Tze or just do it with a brush. The brush is harder but I didnt feel like cleaning the AB again. Its alot harder to do the NMM with brush and make it convincing. What do you guys think?
