Your assumption must have been right, how else should it have gotten off in reactive?

Well, mines are triggered by ARO's so there's that.
Aggressive minelaying is almost a staple "martial art" of Fidays and co.

Dakara has described the way it's usually done.

Yes, but in OldGreggs example the one with the ARO would have been himself.

Point is, your question still stands, why his opponent ran into the E-Mauler. I guess, he forgot that it was one instead of a normal Mine.

Bait and switch.. I left my Asa Haris around the corner, but out of cover. My opponent thought he could get me ... Walked face-first into the mine. He was relying on something to save him, but I'm not sure what.

*Edit, @emperorsaistone I believe you're correct in assuming my opponent
A). Forgot it was not a regular Mine
B). Underestimated what an E-Mauler would do to him
    C). Overestimated his luck?

I got him with a mine from an aggressive Fiday in our next game, but yeah. I think he mostly learned.

Well, knowing not to step on openly planted markers doesn't exactly help against that tactic, it requires different considerations :P

That's my favorite. Smoke LGL instead of mines - or viral mines, depending on how you want to spice your life up. I do like the muyib doc when I'm trying to save points and Leila if I need to go fry some brains/blast some buildings.

I think it really depends on the mission you're looking to run the list for.

Off-topic, but we have one guy who seemingly specializes in that kind of stuff.
We even joke that we only persist at throwing challenges (in case of Infinity, AROs) in the face of his units out of hope that we will win this luck attrition war eventually.

Last time he saved freaking everything with his Achilles until he ate a crit from xeodron's blitzen in ARO while meleeing the thing. Guess can't save that one, huh.

Every game we have, something stupid happens. Like TAG burning in two orders (FO Clipsos + Guided), something with a 1% probability of happening or so, Achilles effectively dying to enemy shooting back on 4s against MA3 melee attack etc.

Expectations get better when you think about full picture though. For example, every time the guy has to save against something nasty like flash pulse, chance of that situation resolving in a particular way is not negligible. Accounting for all such events happening in that game, you end up with chance something will go wrong at some point are not negligible at all.

It's still hilarious that when things go bad, they tend to go bad in the worst way possible.
    ...hey, that's basically Murphey's law.

    No biggie;)

But I have to add, that I usually dont use a full Ghulam team anymore. Its a little bit to clunky for my taste. Nowaday my second group consists of problem solvers like a Fiday, Ragik, Farzan and a Doc with fillers. A Govad HMG has proven very useful too. And if possible, I also put my hackers in there. The second group is only for dealing with things, that the Haris can not and doing support stuff.

Yeah Greg, I hear you. Time gets more sparse, the older we get and so I am not getting nearly as many games, as I would like too.

Concerning your list, this is a design I would have run a year ago. Then I abandoned the Mantra, that you should have at least 8 regular orders in a CG and then I started my winning streak. Could be coincidence, could be that its more effective to have two groups doing stuff. But I have to admit, that my lists suffer fast from losses, so you cant make many mistakes during deployment and the game.

I hear what you're saying. I've been toying with different shapes for my combat groups, but I have yet to bite the bullet. I think it comes down to the fact that I'm still new, so mistakes happen every game. For right now, I rely on the small amount of cushion to get me back on my feet.

Maybe I'll take the training wheels off during my next game with HB. I like the idea.

Absolutely. I should be getting a bunch of games in on Sunday -
I promised myself to run DBS once or twice, but I'll have to make a point of playing an HB list like this as well. I try to post lists, results and insights for all of these games ... In fact, I may write a fully fledged battle report!
