-2 armor + frenzy discount, there you have the 10 points difference
And then they are just a slightly different flavour of your generic shooter, barely different from Grey HMG or generally losing to Wolver Mk12, depending on loadout.
all old Ariadnan HI are basically clones with one or two tweaks between them. Moblots, Greys, Minutemen, Mormaers...
But then each of them get their own beefy thing. Mirage team, ratnik/blackjack, beefy kazak. highlanders get the slow expensive mormaer.
I think the point being is that improved Mormaers should be a meaningful addition to he sectorial as opposed to being an almost-clone of "lower tier beefy infantry" or just a parody of Wulvers, depending on loadout in question. A simple recipe of cutting Mormares' price will, I feel, do the latter.
Drop Dogged to Courage and give them 2W and a CoC option.
Also it should be one Mormaer in a grey fireteam instead of the weird way it's done now...
Or just give a Mormeaer LT wildcard...
A real rebalancing of ARM would help Ariadna's worse-performing HI a great deal, thanks to their very high values. If a Mormaer or Minuteman could be trusted to take a Rifle or HMG burst or two in cover without being wounded it would make them much more desirable.
Proliferate Teseum CC weapons:
Ariadnan Teseum weapons are meant to be highly effective and prized throughout the sphere. But in game terms they are mostly reflected by crappy AP CCW. I’d love to see more Ariadnan profiles with T2 CCW even if it meant a small points increase. Some obvious profiles to have them are Galwegians, Cameronians and Dog Warriors.
Make being technologically backward an actual drawback:
It has always seemed weird to me that Ariadnans having primitive technology should mean they just get to ignore being hacked. Surely their systems would actually be highly vulnerable. I would reflect this by making all Ariadnan HI hackable. Maybe in exchange for a slight pts decrease or something.
-Make Mormaers viable possibly by subbing dogged for NWI and give them a few more load outs
-Let vanilla Ariadna have the Wallace Lt profile
-Give the Scots guard 2nd battalion some specialist profiles
-give Uxia’s SAS profile forward observer or specialist operative
-in TAK, make the Kazakh doctor linkable instead of the 112
-make Mcmurrough extremely impetuous again
-Give cameronians berserk or natural born warrior
I can't argee with it. Ariadna armour supposed to be like old WW2 tank - mostly manual and robust.
Fair enough and with some of the units, like the grey rifle, it just looks like a guy in body armour so you’d wonder what there is to hack.
But Ariadnans are still more advanced than modern 21st century so you’d expect they might have some vulnerable tech. At the very least they will be connected to some kind of communication network and some of the armours could easily conceal powered exoskeletons or things like that. Also it’s entirely possible the Ariadnans have incorporated some hackable technologies used by the rest of the sphere since recontact... we know this is already happening with units like the Loup Garou.
All I’m saying is there are plenty of feasible reasons for Ariadnan HI to be hackable if the game designers willed it so.
There are already Armata-2 and Blackjack and i don't see what can be hacked in Veteran Kazak/Mormaer.
T2 CC weapon is impossible by fluff. What make tesseum T2 ammo is the fragmentation at contact. So T2 CC weapons must be one use only.
PD: Why make McMurrough worse?
What about captain america though? D:
Well IMO there is no reason both the the Veteran Kazak and the Mormaer wouldn't be vulnerable to programs like Oblivion switching off their communications devices (whatever they might be). Obviously, the Kazak wouldn't care because he is veteran and doesn't need a commander to tell him what to do.
As far as the programs like Carbonite which work by freezing the motion of the armour, it would all depend on whether the armours have powered components. For the Mormaer armour, I'm pretty sure it doesn't say anything about it being powered or not, just that it is heavy armour which is extremely expensive and provides great protection due to teseum. The Verteran Kazak's Cherkasa armour aparently "has lower technical specs than other heavy armor suits currently in use, but the use of Teseum in its manufacture means it can give the standard PanOceanian gear a run for its money". So either one could potentially be a low tech suit of powered armour and to me the models look like the armour could be either powered exoskeletons or unpowered body armour. Maybe someone with greater fluff knowledge could point to somewhere this is discussed in detail.
Overall, I just think Ariadna has technological weakness as one of its core concepts as a faction, so it would be good if this was reflected more strongly in game terms somehow in the new edition. I don't think our HI being hackable would massively reduce their effectiveness and we still have lots of ways to stop them getting hacked (eg. no repeaters, tons of ways to hunt down infiltrators), it would just mean assault hackers and the like aren't a completely worthless investment against us.
Considered a precious trophy, the T2 bladed weapons usually decorate the halls of the great Caledonian clan chiefs. Due the high cost of the materials they require and their arduous production system, these weapons are not usually seen on the battlefield. Just some special operators and great warriors really carry them in combat.
Also doesn't Pavel McManus have one and its just meant to be a Teseum Machete... no reason those beautiful Galwegian claymores wouldn't be even better
@fari I just think McMurrough is too good for his points. When the total immunity change came in he got beserk and a downgrade from extremely impetuous to normal impetuous, all for one point
Ariadna use old tech and its not like its unhackable. No one uses devices to do that and training hackers only to hack ariadna stuff is pointless. Hacking should get more supportware.
We see it different way. From my POV it is close enough to Shadowrun 5e way, where you have wireless bonuses, but can be hacked, while Ariadna doesn't have them at all.
Yup. And I'd say CB see things closer to your way as well, given they specifically decided to make Ariadna HI unhackable. But hey, they could decide to change that for N4.
