    Hello everyone!

A friend and I are looking to get into Infinity again. I'd briefly played Infinity several years ago but I understand that the entire ruleset is now totally different so in any way that matters I'm a complete newcomer to the system. After a significant amount of swithering (i.e. looking at the pretty miniatures for each faction) I decided that Druze Bayram Security will be as good a place as any to start. I'm planning to use this thread to document my journey with DBS, and in particular to ask the many questions I expect we will have.

I do note advice in some other threads that DBS are not a great beginner army, but I'm happy to acknowledge that and push on.

I'll start with questions as I haven't even bought a miniature yet.

    1. I have previously heard that a good way to learn the game is to play starter packs against each other. So far as I can tell, there is no starter pack for DBS. That being the case, what would be a good option for me to start with? If it makes a difference, I will probably initially be playing against Aleph forces.

    2. There are several options in Infinity Army that don't seem to have miniatures associated. There are no Brawlers, and I believe that these are still be released so this is clear. But there are also several of the Remotes that I can't find miniatures for even though they are ported across from other forces. Notably, I can't find anything in the PanOceania store called a Fugazi or a Clipper. Am I missing these somehow? Similarly, if I want Nasmats are they only available in the Haqqislam Support Pack?

    3. I see that there is an Authorised Bounty Hunter model on foot, and another on a bike. The biker looks particularly excellent, but I can only see that they can get a bike via one result on the Booty table. Is it correct that I would only be able to properly use the biker in 1/20 of my games? It seems like a bit of a waste (leaving aside the enjoyment I would get from applying my inadequate painting skills).

    4. My initial purchase plan is the Druze Shock Team four pack, both Bashi Bazouks and the Hunzakut, then a few of the remotes. Is there anything that you would particularly recommend to deviate from that?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

I'm glad to hear there is another new player to infinity. While I enjoy playing Druze and they are good. I don''t think the Druze is a good faction start playing with. They are more of a second faction to play. It's a very small faction with limited options. They are fun to play as a second faction since they have their down style and not too large, but the limited options will be a problem as you expand your collection. I'm guessing, but I think it has about 30 % of the profiles other factions have.

1- I don't think they will ever get a starter. Since it's small mix of models from other factions.

2- the remotes you are looking for are in the pano remotes box. The box comes with 2 models and bits for 4 different profiles. As for the nasmat, they are only in the haqq support box. I personally used a nomad remote which came with crazy koala as my proxy for a kameel, then used the koalas as nasmats. But you can get the support box and use the 2 other models as brawlers.

3- the authorized bounty hunter on bike is only available randomly in game. I personally used Miranda Ashcroft as my ABH proxy. I also have the the LE sniper ABH. The bike model is basically for painters and those who really wanted the model.

4- if you are really dedicated to the Druze. The Druze box, remote box (Clippers is key) , peacemakers, valery gromoz, hunzakut give you a decent core.

The bounty hunter on bike is the general release version of an old ITS prize and is based off a piece of art in the N3 core book, I'm pretty sure it was made as a vanity project by one of the sculptors.

I'd love for a separate biker ABH model though, without Fireteam: Duo.

The ABH on the bike is seperate from the bike apparently, so you could just make a tactical rock for her to be leaning against like the LE ABH Sniper mini.

While I would not recommend Druze as a preliminary army (they use a number of advanced rules/tactics and do not have a good path for collecting). What you probably want is:

    1. Druze Shock Team Box
    2. Old Druze shockteam Box
    3. Haqqislam Support box
    4. Dronbot Box x2 (good luck with this one)
    5. Hunzakut Minelayer/LGL mini
    6. Kameel Box

There is no single good brawler mini. I know a number of people use the Fusiliers SWC box for them, or use Ghulams.

Even if you can't find the PanO Dronbots the other human factions (apart from Ariadna) all have 40mm based drones with near identical stats, no-one should really care if you were to use, for example, the Yu Jing Yaokong remotes instead.

For myself this is my second army. There isn't any starter box, but you can think of the Druze shock team being the starter box. Now for the Brawlers, I'm going to use the Fusiliers from Pano. Now The Kameel Remotes are Haq which is the EVO and the minesweeper. We do have two TAGs that can make things interesting to you. I'm also going to convert Farther Sforza as my Chief. I think I can pull it off if I just do it right.

Thanks so much to everyone for your advice. In the end I went for something of a blend of the buying suggestions from the above listing:

    Both Druze boxes
Dronbots (if I understand correctly I can build these as Clippers, Fugazis, Pathfinders or Sierras)
    Valerya Gromoz
    Hunzakut
    Bashi Bazouk
    Peacemaker

That lot ought to give me plenty to work with for now, especially considering that I can proxy in whatever I need anyway. I'll wait and see what the Brawler miniatures look like before considering them further.

Joe and I played our first games last night and I was highly impressed with Infinity. First we played some quick start rules he'd found in which we both had 3 of the same light infantry and messed with them to get the core rules right. Then we played more of a proper game. Joe has the Aleph starter so this was his force.

After a bit of discussion about whether the Asura was so potent (taking up almost half of his force) that it should be swapped out, we decided to just run with it and picked a slightly similar force or my own. By 'slightly similar' I mean a bunch of regular little chaps and then one super expensive unit.

Needless to say, we bumbled through the game and probably got much of it wrong; our homework is to review the rules and see parts we didn't do correctly. There was no hacking because Joe forgot that he had the Naga listed as a hacker. I set the Druze up as a three person link team which seemed quite handy. The most notable event was that Scarface lost two structure points almost immediately due to critical hits from a Dakini and I was rather cautious about using Cordelia to repair him since it seemed that failure to make the WIP13 roll would wreck my big stompy robot. I also realised this morning that I had not accounted for the X-Visor on my Druze, although that is probably fair since Joe forgot about Mimetism on the Dakinis for the first turn.

When next we play, I think that we will use one of the missions. The main thing that we both felt was missing from our game was a reason to do anything other than turtle up and take attacks of opportunity. If you think that one mission would be a particularly good introduction for us (considering that we'll probably again play something like 150 to 200 point armies) then I'd be happy to take advice.

Another contender has entered. My longtime friend and gaming partner Gareth joined me for some more inept bumbling through these interesting rules. Once again, we started with the quickstart rules, which saw my first two attacks met with critical AROs and ended that exercise quite swiftly.

For the main event, Gareth predictably selected Ariadna ('Scottish werewolves? Don't mind if I do!') so we racked up the contents of the appropriate starter box. At some point we got mixed up and noted the Veteran Kazak as the Lieutenant even though that would be a slightly different configuration.

Meanwhile I chose these based partly on the minis that I have on order and mainly because it left us about the same in terms of points. I was going to use an Authorised Bounty Hunter instead of the Brawler but decided that the Booty rule would add needless complexity at this stage. The three Druze went in a Fireteam and left the Brawler to her own devices.

Notable events were the Chasseur failing to infiltrate and ending up at the very back of the board and the Shock Marksman Rifle Druze being gunned down in ARO by the Veteran Kazak during my first order. The Brawler did some good work shooting Line Kazaks that got too close while the Peacemaker dropped the Highlander Grey to Dogged before the Veteran Kazak scrapped it and eventually rampaged through the rest of my force without much trouble.

Overall, I guess I need to come up with a plan to deal with scary chaps like that Veteran Kazak as I suspect that I'll be seeing them in the future. Anyway, we both had fun and will surely play again.

    A few rules questions please:
    • If my Lieutenant is in a Fireteam, can I use the Lieutenant order without dropping her out of the team? Or can I use the order so long as the Lieutenant is the Team Leader for that order?
    • If a Fireteam member uses Suppressive Fire, does that put the whole team in Suppressive Fire (which seems rather strong) or drop them out of the team entirely (which seems quite unappealing)?
    • Is it correct that there is no ARO possible for an attack from behind and out of Zone of Control? So in such a case even if the attack missed entirely there is no possibility to turn round and face the next order?

    - no and no .... drops from link. If link leader - blows link, unfortinatly

-no...if someone uses suppressive state in link - he drops from that link ( A trooper stops being part of a Fireteam if he enters the Suppressive Fire state. Moreover, a trooper's Suppressive Fire state is cancelled when joining a Fireteam. )

It is correct and...there is a rule called "Warning!" which allows you to make a free spin if you was a target of an attack. (http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Warning )

All those answers could be found on infinity wiki. http://infinitythewiki.com

    A bit more elaboration:

Link is activated with a regular order. No other options are presented. If you activate specific members of the link, they drop out.

On a side note, since you cannot activate entire link using things such as irregular order, Lt order, coordinated order ability, using those on link members means activating them individually, so they drop out. The latter example (coordinated order) is even mentioned specifically in the rules.

This is relevant for some specific situations like Lt in a link, Loss of Lt state (when you might have a deficit of regular orders - although you'll have some thanks to Veteran 1) etc.

Thank you very Sorniak and Barrogh. We have been trying to use the wiki, but there are just so many permutations of rules that we're sometimes struggling to even know what to search. This is why your advice and experience is particularly appreciated.

Joe and I tried a game with an actual scenario this time, trying out Supremacy on the basis that it was about more than just killing everything. Neither of us actually know enough to make any kind of informed choice about forces, so we ended up with this for my list.

Much of the selection was based on the stuff I have on order, though I did make sure to have a couple of hackers so that I could actually participate in the scenario. We had delayed a week and somewhere in there I got mixed up on my list; hence going over our agreed game size by a single point.

Joe has bought heavily into Haqqislam and I was facing this lot across the table.

We set up with Joe taking the first active turn. I had the Hunzakut deployed as a camo marker next to a console on my side and the Bashi Bazouk ready to come on my right side at the far end of the board. Joe's Fiday failed her role to show up in the middle of my team and instead scattered into no-man's land just in front of my deployment zone.

I started by using a command token to remove two orders from Joe's pool, and he spent another to coordinate four of his soldiers to move up. One of them crossed the sights of my shock marksman rifle Druze and was gunned down. The sniper Lasiq took another move forward but was taken down by an ARO from the HMG Druze, and then Tariq Mansouri split his burst to kill the HMG Druze but took a critical hit and another wound from the KHD Druze, dropping him too. This was looking pretty bad for Joe already, considering that it was his turn. One of the Ghulams died to a long range ARO from the KHD Druze too, mainly thanks to the x-visor I suppose. Finally, the Fiday rounded a corner and chopped up the Auxbot, though she died in return to the flamethrower since we ended up with two unopposed roles.

I finished off the Haqq in my turn without too much difficulty.

We were a bit concerned about the results of the ARO fire since we had put down a lot of terrain and not really expected such an exchange of fire. Is this normal, or should we do something different with the board layout?

It also seemed that the benefits of a 5-soldier link team (i.e. +1 burst and +3 BS) were really strong in the reactive turn. Is this our inexperience showing? I suppose that these should be counterable by non-sectorial armies but it wasn't really clear to us what the advantage would be.

They are strong, but keep in mind that active turn gives you:

    - still better fire superiority with dedicated gunfighters having up to B4;
    - control over terms of engagement including range to beat that raw +3 from 5 man link;
    - ability to deliver something nasty that isn't countered by BS and Burst to your mostly static (in reactive turn) enemy.

Of course, that requires you to build some of those tools into your list, but list building is supposed to be vanilla's strong point anyway, what's with access to widest array of units.
