I think it is important to point out that the Uhlan needs to exploit is high STR, ARM and remote presence to recover some of it's cost. This means you absolutely have to take on everything in a firefight with it, including the Riot Grrl missile link and risk damage often.

P.S. does anyone know the price difference between a HMG and Multi HMG, and what it costs to add a furry back?

I want to remaind you all that we are here to BLAME de GUIJIA not the Uhlan, he has his own topic x)

Pd: on a serious matter, from outside the Uhlan looks good but in terms of pure firepower it don't look worth it in list making compared to other 100 aprox points tags with Multy Hmg. But i think the tags with Camo state well played can be the strongest thing in this game and sometimes this is not well valued in list making. ( Sphinx is just a killing machine).

4 points I think, just like most Multi-upgrades, but it's really hard to say given that I don't know the cost that Overdron pays for that extra Sniper (which suggests it's more than 4 points for MHMG over HMG) nor just how much the extra BS on Yan Huo or extra CC on Taskmaster is (which suggests significantly less than 4 points)

For anyone who cares a MBT should be identified by ARM 8+ and some sort of heavy Weapon with MULTI Ammunituon. Light TAGs have less ARM and only a single ammunition main armament (secondary weapon can be whatever).
There aren't really enough TAGs to make it more complicated than that.

Haqq has a cheap utterly vanilla MBT and not much competition for it. There isn't even another troop with a normal BS14 HMG in the entire Faction. Maggie is Haqq's ceiling for how to win a FTF roll without the need to use tricks.
YJ gets better MODs for cheaper troops with the same BS.

What I'd leave out of the equation is the Yan Huo. S5 4-2 and S7 6-4 are nothing alike. The only thing they have in common is that they're going to engage AROs straight forward, after that is over the common traits end.

Where the Guijia fails me is the complete lack of useable defining traits, CC 19, uninteresting Pilot... yeah no. When you're competing with some of the best solo HI in the game (Hac Tao, Hsien, Su Jian, ...) a mediocre and bland TAG won't quite make the cut against very interesting HI.

Not to say TAGs are bad, but I personally find the MBTs challenging to use. Thanks to FAT1 and unique traits the high end Light TAGs seem to hit the sweet spot of FTF murderbot, 3STR, 6-4, high ARM (compared to anything not a MBT) and a defining trait to give them an edge (preferably Mobility Skills).

Most MBTs really only have their excessive ARM and MULTI going for them. A DAM 16 Multi HMG can often be overkill and the classic TAG counters like CC, AP/EM/K1/Mono Ammunition and Hacking ignore or devalue the MBT's increased cost.

I would like to say that depending on what you define as tricks, links go a long way to increase that ceiling in sectorials, and depending on what kind of FtF we are talking about, simple things like Lasiq / Zhayedan MMS2 snipers abusing their range and MODs, or Tuaregs with their TO/Surprise Shot/positioning to use shotgun or outrange with sniper rifle (even though I don't quite like the profile) can surpass that power directly despite lacking B4 or raw BS14. Plus there's Spitfire Khwarij who can be said to have statistical effectiveness similar to BS14 thanks to B13 and transforming a single low success that would otherwise be almost always a failure into one hell of a success.

That is not to say they have any virtues of MBT, but I'd like to highlight how highly a point of BS can be valued by point system when there are relatively cheap ways to add/cut 3 points of effective BS, sometimes even more.

I was saying this in this thread already, but when we take those into account vanilla MBTs suddenly come out as not so effective shooting platforms, at least for their cost and reliance of your list on them for brute force tasks due to lack of models and orders resulting from you taking this almost 100 pts thing in the first place. What that means is that not only you lose order count during list building, you also lose efficiency due to lack of attack vectors (somewhat offset by TAGs movement) and failing FtFs more often than some other dedicated active turn gunfighters. And it's not like MBT contribute very well to many other things (well, they can be a good paper point weight in zone control / Show of Force etc.).

Here's also a thing about armor. Swingy nature of it notwithstanding, when you have to rely on it during FtF shooting on your active turn - that's still effectively a failure because you're likely wasting an order in this scenario. On your reactive you could say it's a success zone because your opponent spent an order and achieved almost nothing. The problem is that it's quite narrow success zone in most realistic cases which can be extended by putting your TAG in Suppressive. Here's where another issue with Guijia (and Maggie for that matter) lies - it's a manned TAG without Courage. Every time you use your "selling point" (ARM / BTS) in reactive turn, you risk losing that SF state and run away from the firelane. That devalues this style of "reactive winning" quite a lot.

This is way more annoying for 360 Maggie, what's with "the biggest TR bot in the game" being unable to hold its ground despite paying whooping 20 pts for ability to try and halt enemy movement on turn 2/3, but but Guijia definitely suffers from the same issue.

    Well, sure.

Remember that I class an Uhlan as a TAG Destroyer, though. It's anti-infantry weapon is the HMG! It's the idea of a light chassis with a gun more commonly seen on bigger things. Think Hetzer or StuG, not JagdTiger. In this specific case, the gun is a bit lighter than what an MBT packs but it's still effective enough in the role. I agree that it'd be better to have an actual M-HMG instead of the Feuerbach and plain HMG.

What if they redesigned the Guijia to have an auto-cannon?

Not a portable autocannon like what Tankhunter shot as if they're recoil-less rifles, but an actual autocannon with the auto-loader installed and fire limiter removed (i.e. let's say B3 instead of B2).

Would this make the Guijia sufficiently different to put it in its own niche (without deviating from Yu Jing's more brute force design) or would it just give the same problems with a bigger gun (and less capable of infantry fighting)?

(As an aside, my personal preference would be to drop ARM 1 point and give it Total Immunity)

    +1,
they are super overpriced by CD when they don't even have a miserable pistol. They are a easy exploitable primary objective for shotgun congas of death. Even the EVO is just crap without some kind of defense for that cost. The fact of lacking any weapon should be enought reason for heavy discounts... just like netrods.

He Guijia is named as the guardian beast of earth. It's main caracteristic should be endurance alone. A second inconscious state or a higher ARM would have been cool. But I think they'r out of the question. So, Alternative profiles with diferent equipment
    • Multi HMG + Heavy Grenade Launcher
    • Multi Rifle, Feuerbach (or autocannon) and Full auto 2
    • SMGx2, Panzerfaust, X-Visor and Forward deplyment Lv1
    • ...
Interesting, But somehow I don't Think so

Squalo, maggy and Lizard are pretty good tools if played nice. Forward observer Skirmishers and Assault hackers can mark almost anything and then the speculative party begins. Especially usefull in saturated tables. In Vigo (spain) home of CB is a pretty sick strategy. Skirmishers and light troops fall as ducks, even in linkteams. That's why the Heavy Grenade launcher doesn't have +3 range.

They move, the Netrods don't XD
That being said, compared with Ikadrons (9 pts mk3 proxy movement value, pistol, double flamethower, flash pulse AND autotool...) all of the 8pts remotes fall short.

    Nanoscreen as "carapace".

I still think it needs some meaningful melee boost...

Cool, they can move, so they are moving targets ready to get AROed for free

Netrods provide orders, they have skills, their profile is cut barely for the task they're providing and they can host jumpers by the face... They don't have CD or WP or CC... fucking optimal for their task the only hindrance is their deployment rule.

Instead the Bagaje remotes pay for a stat that 2 of them Doesn't use.., so yeah it should have at least a fucking pistol or a point discount

and yeah, I thought about nanoscreen, but it's too alientech to seriously think about it.:disappointed:

Guardian Beast of the Earth, the Dark Lord of the Northern Heavens?

Total Immunity (like the Karakuri) and No Wound Incapacitation (like the Su Jian). It'd only ever suffer 1 Wound at a time (except for T2), and has an additional active level.

    No weapon changes.

I run Guijia because it is the most beautiful TAG (okay a lot of TAGs look cool, but the Guijia is just a beauty of coolness) - I even build an army around it (because I collect only ISS before). But yes, he is a pretty normal TAG and his CCW is mostly a decorative piece. But it is a pity not to play him, when you have him fully painted ;-)

This annoys me. I hate that I can pop my pilot out of a ruined tag, and then you can just shoot the ruined tag to kill the pilot who is already doing something else.

CB... please change this. It makes no sense. The pilot already doesn't provide an order, and it isn't like people take tags anyway. I want to get the new pilot miniature+TAG but I struggle to justify taking them for a number of reasons... this being one of them.
