Its not necessarily all about offense, its also about applying pressure and layering a bunch of threats that are hard to deal with. If you get the first turn and targets are limited, it can be better to spend your turn saturating the midfield with a bunch of hard to kill units in dominant positions that will make it super hard for the opponent to leave their DZ.
I've had Achilles die to a single ARO. Double crit with an autocannon (fireteam bonus). Despite cover AND ODD. Not only took the 2 direct wounds from the crits but FAILED the other 4 saves, too.). Achilles stays in the box, now.
