As a deeply committed Aleph, Nomad, 0-12 player I can tell you that Evo bots have fairy dust, which can put up a firewall of your own, no tin bot needed. Stacking your own firewall, helps even the odds a lot during your active turn while you have the burst advantage. Other tools might include surprise attack to further stack mods, or potentially coordianted hacking, though to be honest I have't fit that many of the same hacking device into lists so its probably cornercase. Also as pointed out not everything is hackable if you make your whole list hackable thats a known weakness when you make your list. @Stiopa interventor KHDs (which do not work for corregidor) have an upgraded trinity (-3) which is pretty dang mean.
Good point! Edit: Although you can't have both this and Assisted Fire active, so a TinBot would still be better.
With the new combat jump the netrods are very good. If we fail the 12 PH roll we only must place the netrods in contact with the edge of the game table; so we no longer risk having them end up off the table or in uncovered areas in the center of the table. Or I didn't understand something?
I know. Previously they had Lightning, which imposed a -6 mod, while N3 Trinity had no bonus, so I think that they're a bit more unpleasant in active turn, but roughly the same in reactive. Coordinated hacking should work, having 2-3 hackers in a list isn't that uncommon.
The main limiting factor on Coordinated Hacking is that you’ll usually want a variety of different Hacking Devices, but then they won’t have the same Programs to be able to coordinate.
@ijw thats been my experience I rarely find that I have more that 1 or 2 of the SAME type of hacking device, and there is very little overlap on programs between devices so the coodinated hack looks like its going to be a rare occurance. One bonus for the Asura is that she is a HI so can be buffed by fairy dust at the same time she has a superior trinity, 3 on 12s v billie's 1 on 14 is alright.. and the asura with bts +6 + 3 for firewall, and 2.5 wounds is likely to be able to shrug off failed attempts, whereas Billie is far less likely to survive an asuras +2 dam trinity. On the whole yeah the Daikini link got weaker, but it was pretty redonk for its cost in N3 so I don't mind, same with the apsara and her G:jumper. As a pro, daikni can new go prone so there is at least that.
So, I hear posthumans take up multiple 'slots' in the tactical window setup. Is this true? Between that and no HD on the sniper, they have fallen far. Probably for the better
I love the changes on Penthesilea. She was the model that originally got me into the army. I'm just a bit sad at the loss of Eudoros though, as i used to use him as a way of impetuous eclipse open a way for her to get across the table. It's gonna be a bit harder to make good use of her as an alpha striker without her buddy. The loss of Teucer hurts a tad with heavy boys getting more prevalent. He'd be such a good tool in this age of armor. Atalanta shifting role from an active turn monster to a more defensive tool is interesting though, i like that.
I'm not saying that Proxy didn't need a nerf or that Vanilla Aleph (or OSS) are in a bad place now. It's just that all the changes aren't that exciting for me, nothing makes me go "Oh I want to play this thing" and overall I hoped/expected something more interesting or original to come our way (my mistake) but didn't. Plus I feel that if we exclude sweeping changes/discounts I feel Aleph got more bad than good. Even if I may just play a couple of game to try out the Dakini with knees and the new Atalanta. On the other hand other Armies look way more interesting and exciting to play to me right now, so I think I'll shelf Aleph until something major comes out (like amazing port of Steel Phalanx to N4 or a new sectorial), and get myself some new Nomads since I like the new units, I liked Tunguska since it came out and the new Corregidor also looks fun to me. Or maybe I'll try JSA to feel the joy of hitting people in the face with less smoke and more armor. Or who knows. Regarding Dasyus, I'm not saying they're bad, they're basically better Spektr/Razors.. I just don't feel they have enough umhpf to make a difference coming out of HD with less WIP on the hacker and less BS on the sniper compared to the Proxy. And for the mines, I'd just use a cheaper Naga. They really never earned their points when I used them compared to the Proxy (well, duh) or the Nagas. Ps: Also I admit I'm a bit salty that after a lot of great stuff like transforming mecha-bikes, puppets and so on were added to Nomads, we finally got something sort of unique in Jumper LZ and the Rudras, but LZ was awful before, got better now but everyone has it and Nomads get the better cousin of the Rudras. But again, if I didn't enjoy being salty I wouldn't play Infinity :D So that's ok, I'll just give them more money as my revenge!
I guess when you've been in first place, being brought back into balance could be seen as a disappointment.
I hope Teucer will be back with the other bois, but meanwhile Atalanta looks like she's still an active turn monster. I mean, she had 17 BS before, but since everyone is either in cover or playing wrong (at least around here), she would be basically BS 14 anyway, while now ignoring cover with Marksmanship she STILL has BS 15... AND Total Reaction. And shoots DA+Shock or AP+Shock. Honest question, is Aleph really considered that good usually? I never felt we got weak units, but in my group (and I admit, we're really few players here and there's really no tournaments or anything like that that we know of) it's considered quite normal/balanced. All the "oh god it's too OP, damn broken army" is just targeted at PanO, while everything else in considered pretty much on the same level. (Except Haqqi since noone plays them here so who knows :D)
@Bard OSS didn't change much, because it's one of the newer sectorials and whatever ideas were thrown around by CB they were already mostly implemented here. Phalanx might undergo a more radical transformation, being an older army. So far my biggest disappointment is Remdriver, Apsara might've been more interesting. At the very least she might've had few Remdriver loadouts with different bonuses, to tailor a remote to battle conditions.
Stiopa, agreed. Maybe it's the new unit shine, but in vanilla I'm more interested in the RemDriver bonuses than the Apsara. It just seems weird that she's still a set value when the others are stat bonuses.
OSS or Aleph were taking a lot of top tables, along with Varuna (but not really the rest of PanO.) Part can be explained with new army syndrome but things like the Dakini Fireteam coupled with the unspeakably undercosted Posthumans and top tier skirmishers left a very powerful force.
So wait, I need to make sure I understand this... The Apsara now gives bonuses to one remote, and there's no way to move the bonus to another one, not even if the remote dies? Also, Apsara bonuses now stack with, say, assisted fire?
The new rule that let's you start with a model in suppression if your opponent starts is super interesting. A Dasyu with a combo rifle in the right position could be a serious obstacle. As a hacker or someone that can place mines. You wouldn't be making use of hidden deployment and start out out of marker state but it's still an interesting option for sure.
