Hey, just wanted to ask how to handle AI beacons in Biotechvore (there are some old threads about this but they're pretty out of date now - the most recent seemed both inconclusive and ended up talking about electric pulses). My reading is: - AI beacons have explicitly been ruled to *not* be troopers - All the special rules in Biotechvore only apply to troopers Therefore; - AI beacons can't 'benefit' from confused deployment to avoid scattering etc but also don't suffer the -3 PHY on the roll; and - succesfully deployed AI beacons don't take BTS rolls from the biotech zone Sound right? Or has there been some official word otherwise that doesn't predate an edition change? Thanks :)
yes this is accurate, it was BTV that spawned the initial discussion on the matter, so no AI beacons dont take the -3 to drop in BTV. Im not so sure about the second, but I would imagine its the same for all equipment
Yeah it does sound right - I'm pretty comfortable with my interpretation RAW, but there's always the possibility of contrary developer clarification or something similar.
I thought they do apply confused deployment due to this rule: "Special Skills, pieces of Equipment, or rules that apply any PH or WIP Roll to de-ploy must replace it with this roll" (Emphasis added) "This roll" refers to the confused deployment roll.
No, The Full rule is Confused Deployment. Any trooper using a Special Skill to deploy outside their Deployment Zone must make a PH-3 Roll. If the player fails the roll, the trooper will be deployed anywhere his Deployment Zone. Special Skills, pieces of Equipment, or rules that apply any PH or WIP Roll to deploy must replace it with this roll. Any MOD applied to the Deployment by a Special Skill, piece of Equipment, or rule will be added to this roll. The Section you are quoting only refers to the equipment that may give a troop +3 or access to AD. AI Beacons are not Troopers and therefore confused deployment cannot apply to them before it even gets to the line you are talking about
The line that says any mod applies to the confused deployment roll is: "Any MOD applied to the Deployment by a Special Skill, piece of Equipment, or rule will be added to this roll." But the line right before it is: "Special Skills, pieces of Equipment, or rules that apply any PH or WIP Roll to deploy must replace it with this roll." And ai beacon apply a roll to deploy so must replace it with confused deployment.
Just because it says the word pieces of equipment doesnt mean the rule applies to equipment. It applies to troops, and affects equipment those troops are carrying. Basic comprehension
Yes, if a rule says "pieces of equipment" it applies to equipment. As far as the rules are concerned both are equipment as "pieces of equipment" doesn't exist in this game. So confused deployment talking about equipment that apply a ph roll must make a confused deployment roll instead refers to something like a netrod/imetron deploying via combat jump as well. You've even been part of these discussions before where the answer was not so definitive as the way you answered in this thread. Such as: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/biotechvore-questions.1325/ So there is no basic comprehension, just your way of understanding how it is played. This also answers the question for the OP that this is an undecided problem that is not worth hashing over as we will have a new its in around 2 weeks.
Dude no 1)Confused Deployment. Any trooper using a Special Skill to deploy outside their Deployment Zone must make a PH-3 Roll. If the player fails the roll, the trooper will be deployed anywhere his Deployment Zone. This part tells us who the rule applies too, "Any Trooper using a special skill to deploy outside their deployment zone" 2)Special Skills, pieces of Equipment, or rules that apply any PH or WIP Roll to deploy must replace it with this roll. This is telling us how the items affected by the rule (see part 1) are affected by the rule, IE it affects their Skills, their equipment or other rules that allow them to roll to deploy outside of the DZ (like AD3 which has a roll, clarrifying that the AD3 combines with confused deployment not overwrites it) Any MOD applied to the Deployment by a Special Skill, piece of Equipment, or rule will be added to this roll. This tells us how the mods for the rules stack from part 2. Part 2 does not apply to units that are not troopers, it applies to rules that troopers use. Basic And as to "how its played" Lol no mate, AI beacons are not played that they take a -3 because they dont, because thats the conversation that spawned the realisation that they arent troopers. LOL
You've tried this discussion before, such as the link I provided before. You are not a unanimous opinion. Hopefully in 2 weeks the new its will be quite explicit on how we play it moving forward. I hope the OP uses what is discussed to make his own conclusion but I have no interest in going back and forth over this.
Thanks all. RAW it seems pretty clear that none of the Biotech rules apply to AI beacons. Appreciate the assistance. :)
That's incorrect. All deployable equipment must follow the deployment rules of the mission being played - that's in the basic rules for deployables.
So do all deployment rules. In order for that statement to make sense it must lump deployable equipment in with "troops" in the generic and scenario-specific deployment rules. I've never seen someone say that AI beacons aren't affected by exclusion zones etc, y'all only bring this one up when it seems to grant some small benefit.
