So about somewhere at the end of December/start of January I was reaching a mental breaking point due to the severely deteriorating health of my grandmother and the strain that caring for her put on the whole family (by that point we've been at it for half a year). I had no working relief valve at that point (even chopping wood didn't have the effect it used to) until .... I can't recall how I started but I began painting my Adeptus Custodes. And realized just how relaxing it was. Which was funny since I went to art school and HATED using a brush and painting. But hey, it helped calm me and I needed some calm in my life at that point. So I did my Custodes. Then at the end of January, my grandmother passed away from a heart attack (after I managed to avert a minor disaster involving a fire). Other things demanded my attention so I didn't pick up a brush for a while. A month after that, give or take, I was getting annoyed with looking at a shelf full of unpainted models and with the golden Custodes standing out like a very sore thumb. So I took up painting again and did my AdMech army (I'm leaving the Guard for last - tackling my huge infantry horde is daunting). Now GW models aren't as detailed (or the details are bigger) than Infinity but finally I went "What the heck? What's the worst I can do?" So I began painting my Haqqislam and PanO collections (USAriadna will wait until I figure out a winter scheme that is easy to do). With the campaign coming up, I increased my pace. My main goal is to bring my various armies to tabletop levels since I want to "finish" them within this lifetime (too many minis and with new ones coming out constantly I need to be realistic). Thus all minis are base coated and given a wash - which looks ok on the table really (and most of the pictures here are close ups so you can all see my fuck ups :P ) and I can do highlights and whatnot at any later point if I want to. There are a few minis in my Haqq army that Darkilian started painting and I'm not going to touch those (it's the ones using more brown instead of Tallarn Sand and generally just being better painted: most of the Muyibs, the Govads, the Ghulams, two Fidays). Color scheme wise, I wanted to go with a Fremen army, hence all the sandy colors and some brown - also the blue eyes because Fremen. And I used some zamesi desert for units that have viral weapons - like those poisonous frogs that are brightly colored. Major Lunah is serving as a generic Lasiq btw. Gods what a rant. Ok, moving on to the pictures before this gets any longer. I give you the 12th Rapid Response Brigade "Sand Scorpions" If anyone wants to see the PanO stuff (or even the non-Infinity stuff), I'll upload the rest here.
Please do. Also I would like to add my condolences for the loss of your grandmother. As someone who loves their own granny I hope that it wasn't an extremely terrible time when she did pass away.
