Ok, firstly don't use water. That makes Milliput sticky and also thins it's consistency (milliput wash is useful for smoothing and gap filling)....
I recommend having the plain roller, guide rings, and cutters. A bakeable putty could be good too. Sculpy for example.

Do the Shasvastii minis really matter in the Yu Jing area apart from target practice?
I get the feeling that it's either a bad camera angle or the head isn't in the right position somehow. Especially when compared to the render....
That makes sense. Think that's why I'm struggling to picture a good proxy.
