I've seen Oniwaban destroy link teams too many times to abandon the BSG, the nanopulser is easy to avoid as it can be dodged on a Normal Roll (especially by a Riot GRRL or other high PH link) but the BSG makes it a F2F and applies surprise shot against Haris/Triad links.
why would it ? It is not an effect of Nanotech special ammo. It is also not an effect of DTW : Dodging an Attack with a Template Weapon usually involves passing a PH Roll. However, that Roll becomes a PH-3 Roll in these cases: If the trooper affected by the Template Weapon does not have LoF to the attacker. If the Template Weapon is a Deployable Weapon (such as a Mine or an E/Mauler). Troopers affected by a Template Weapon who declare Change Facing will perform a PH-3 Roll. And it is not an effect of Surprise Shot : In a Face to Face Roll between the user's BS Attack or Hacking Attack and an enemy, the enemy suffers a -3 MOD to the relevant Attribute.
My bad for not explaining it fully... Intuitive Attack requires only having a weapon capable of doing so. So you Int Att with WIP, and it's a FtF roll... I lost count of the number of times I've had to suffer that XD
I was under the impression that Intuitive Attack may only be used in the cases specified in the first two bullet points.
What Mahtamori said. Whilst you technically could declare Intuitive Attack a link team wouldn't be a valid target unless they were under smoke. I guess you could also finagle it by Intuitive Attacking a marker and splashing onto other targets.
This is particularly effective against S2 link teams mostly hidden behind LOS blocking terrain (as I find they often do with a few models on ARO duty). If you can position yourself so that your shotgun is only visible to one model and line up template hits behind then you force your opponent to choose between eating normal rolls, dodging with the whole link or breaking the link team.
Yeah, no complaints at all about new Marksman Rifle profiles. It's a good addition for a force like JSA in particular, where there's so much short-range emphasis, but very little HMG or Smoke to help targets get close. I see myself continuing to run a a Rui Shi and a Keisotsu Hacker, so that's already 2.5 SWC gone... Plus the new Ryuken-9 Minelayers (at least 2 of them) for another 1 SWC... The Keisotsu LT remains 1 SWC... So the SWC will vanish quickly just buying Sectorial staples, which means that any long-range weapons you can get that don't cost a lot of SWC will be helpful. I was unimpressed with the Daiyokai as a stand-alone unit, but in the context of +1 Burst with a Chain Rifle and Boarding Shotgun Domaru following close behind, I've become a bigger fan. Link Leading as a bullet magnet, soaking mines or walking through enemy AROs to pin targets in CC while more fragile Domaru get the job done is a very helpful profile to have. I like that with that effective extra Wound and big ARM value, you can risk EXP AROs, fire weaponry, etc that a Domaru wouldn't want to tangle with.
Ryuken Unit-9 ODD profile: everything Miranda could have been, but wasn't... Purely game-technically, I am excited about playing JSA (and game-technicalities is what matters most for me)
Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing about Locusts. That kind of midfield skirmishing utility unit, that can defend, attack, suppress, crack armor, hunt NWI, do classifieds, etc. all in one profile that's less than 25 points is a dream.
I don't agree with you here. There is a requirements section above the effects section. If it could only be used against camo/through smoke, those situations would be listed in the requirements. All I need is the Intuitive Attack trait and a target within template range.
I tried searching old forums, hard going due to the large number of questions regarding Intuitive Attack vs markers of various types, but I don't think this has come up before. Edit: Sodding hell, I just realised I've painted all my JSA in the same scheme as my Yu Jing.
I hope what were seeing here isn't a type of power creep, where we have all these rangelands covered for very little SWC. the addition of marksmen rifles on these unit types is great. I'm really excited to be able to stick this low cost back-up gun in my link teams. The throwing around of SMGs is also a little nuts IMO. it synergies so well with TO and ODD (the ability to go suppressive AND be burst 3 for something cheaper than Shotgun prices is insane!). I'm interested to see how much cheaper the SMG option is versus the Contender option is on the Tanko. The glue for our link teams may have just gotten cheaper. It feels like they're almost trying to min-max us.
also BSG is more efficient at killing link teams. BSG is only an offensive piece, SMG can be thrown in suppressive once his job is done
I wouldn't worry. At the end of the day, short range weapons are always cheaper and readily abundant, because they cost orders to bring into play, and enter the 8-inch zone of death where templates, mines, hacking, pistols, shotguns, etc all linger. Since JSA units are mostly weak to these counter threats (their TO units are 1 wound with mediocre PH, bikes are bad at dodging, heavy infantry generally have low ARM and BTS by HI standards, and even CC is order intensive and hard to initiate safely) they remain at risk when you fight up close like this. For every enemy you Jan up with a suppressive fire Ryuken-9, there will be three opponents who just Chain Rifle their face or drop a mine around a corner. To make the matter more complex, JSA is comparably weak in the category of long range firepower, and has shockingly little access to smoke given how focused they are on short ranged combat. As a result, Marksman rifles are a pretty critical lynchpin from a balance perspective, since they help those short range troops transition into close range and give JSA a versatile, no-SWC gunfighting tool. At the end of the day, most kills are scored by gunfighting, even in a CC oriented force like JSA.
Marginally useful with so many good suicide LTs that doesn't cost swc. Probably more likely for Shinobu. I won't. Takes too long to strip and repaint, I'm building up a backlog as it is. My JSA are also the subset that's most painted, including a large amount of bases with LOF decently done, though I'm planning on rebasing all my miniatures so I could differentiate them like that. Got a large stack of painted hexagon streets waiting for me to finish my house move so they'll go to Yu Jing and I'll scout for something appropriately treasonous for JSA.
