So I noticed today that the Su-Jian has no cube... was this intentional design or accidental omission? At first I thought it might be remote presence that helped but Most other Remote presence units do still have cubes, so I dont think it's that... It certainly makes me consider bringing this beloved battle cat to face down all the Avatars running about!
Remote Presence units do not have Cubes. Betatroopers do not, Karakuri do not, Cutters do not, Wu Ming do not (get it "remote presence" as in remote presence of a detonation device hehe...), Rui Shi do not, Dakini do not, and so on.
Although the SuJian is certainly a great tool against CA (and any army!) it is Remote Presence. No Remote Presence trooper has Cube.
Sepsitor is the least scary thing about Avatar But if you are really concerned, you can fairly easily build a sepsitor-proof list in ISS with Wu Mings and Kuang Shi and have LT guarded by a hacker or madtraps
Monks are more useful against the Avatar than the Su Jian tbh. Just stick a Monk on the Avatar it's not going anywhere after that.
Ah! For some reason the units I compared it with I thought were remote but weren't actually.. so my initial assumption was correct Thanks for the tips all! I feel more confident in my ability to counter sepistor plays now
A more universal solution to an Avatar is a Bounty Hunter (needs smoke or ZoC tickling, though). Or a REM Driven CC22 Chaiyi. Those Para CCWs man...
The Su-Jian will ignore its sepsitor but may have trouble against ARM 9 or ARM 12 in cover with a mere spitfire. Imagine only being able to hurt your opponent with your expensive active-turn piece if they roll 1s or 2s on a D20 on 3 wounds (along with a -6 visual mod). Don't think a Su-Jian would really scratch the paint of an Avatar.
The main issue I see with the HSG is that when using it you're leaving yourself open to get hit for free by your opponent. I feel this is good on cheap units that can trade up easily but it doesn't seem very efficient on a 50 point active turn piece.
You can use it in AP mode instead of Template. And even Template mode is decently safe when you're ARM 8 in cover with effective 3W.
Also, the HSG Su Jian is a missile. Run him into the enemy backline while shrugging off enemy blows, ruin his squishy backline or prized piece, and then leave him in a frustrating position just daring your opponent to deal with him. There's no room for fear with all that glory to claim.
True, I didn't take that into account at first. The only issue is getting close enough, but the Su-Jian does have its 8-2 movement option. Maybe this profile is something to consider for dealing with things like -6 Mimetism TAGs.
8-4. The Su Jian is functionally an 8-4 model if you're MOV-MOV ordering so long as you don't need to use C+. You use transmutation to get the 4" move off the combat form in the second half of the order.
can you change between the short skills ? Wasnt allowed in N3, but after reading the N4 rules it seems so ?
Ahh yeah, I was actually going to ask about that. As far as I can tell from reading the rules for Transmutation, you can choose a new form at the beginning of each movement skill, so you can indeed make an 8-4 movement if you choose to MOV-MOV.
You could change in N3. It just never added any movement because the profiles both had 2 for their second MOV value.
