Brainstorming for a Demo

    Ok, maybe it's my allergies. I'm looking to create a ~150/3swc demo force to use to well... demo. I have a very low key 10 order list for that 150 points. But I'm looking for a more usable and smaller list more along the lines of the Operation boxes go. Oh, and Red Veil is garbage so don't bring that up.

    So. ~150 points. Over and under don't matter by a few points . Same with SWC if it's off by .5 or the like.

    It needs to scale. Preferably 3 troopers if I needed to start that small and up to 6 to 7 if we were to play through an Operation booklet for example.

    It should try to cover several core game play mechanics. So while rifles are pretty obvious... impact templates, direct templates, camouflage, air deploy, holo1 disguises are all able to be included.

    Models should still have practical value if stripped down for a lower level of demo.

    Avoid gimmick lists. Achilles and 2 Netrods is not a demo list. Anything that smacks of a hero delivery system is unusable.

    From my (limited) experience - simply make it 150pts list, with the idea of using at least some of the advanced mechanics - including Camo, Infiltration, Hacker, REM etc. Even Fireteams.

    Just use it on an Operation-sized board, with a simple annihilation scenario.

    Worked well in our case, though it is worth noting we had two veteran players ready to recall all necessary rules and interpret possible scenarios for the benefit of the random folks we were demonstrating the game to.

    It is not an Operation: Something situation. You are not trying to make people learn the game in baby steps over a course of several scenarios of increasing complexity - you're trying to show them the game full of options, possibilities and colourful troops. They may learn the rules later - for now, they are there to have fun.

    This came to my mind without too much pondering about it. The list has things such as doc, engineer, FO, total reaction, camo, mimetism, msv, direct templates, impact templates, hacking, viral/shock/ap ammo, drop bears and both regular and irregular orders.

    This final list was put together hastily. It keeps the minelayer from before. swaps a lot of models out so that there is a mimetism+xvisor viral sniper to be an annoying ARO piece. the Ayyar to show off Holo1/2 and surprise shot mechanics. Naffatun get to show off direct templates. Leila is just all around good fun with her ability to hack, shoot, and enter marker state.

    Holo L1 is, actually, an ability I'd vote against when it comes to a demo game.

    Keep in mind you'd be demoing to complete newbies. People who are not going to know the difference between a Janissary and a Hafza. Mind-gmaing doesn't work for them...

    Sometimes it's important to show that Infinity isn't afraid of exotic (by many wargames' standard) rules. At least to me it was a considerable draw.

    Mainly included because op seemed to want more complex mechanics to demo.

    I think theres value doing more complex demos when you have experienced wargamers. For them the spectacle of seeing mechanics like holo1 is something that can set infinity apart from the games they sre used to.

    Its not about mind gaming at all basically

    The goal is to have a range of options all in one list. Those deemed too complicated are stripped out and ignored.

    I do have conversations with people who want a demo. I have different demo styles based on "complete newbie" up to Captain rank in Star Fleet Battles. But everyone gets a glimpse into the future. The game is complex and everyone should know what they are getting into.
