So I went on Army today and to my extremely unpleasant surprise the rafiq with the red fury is gone from HB and QK, but remains in Ramah and Vanilla.

I’m not sure if this is an error or the correction of a previous error, but if you need me I will be mourning the short life of what I was beginning to consider an auto-include for my Hassassin Bahram

Pics for ref., first is HB second is vanilla

Dahshat one is still there. I think that is intentional.

Yeah I just saw CB made a Twitter announcement about “some minor Army fixes including an update to the Zondmate silhouette”. Definitely seeming true, I just wish I didn’t find out by loading up two lists only to see them suspiciously missing .5 swc and 22 points lol

“Hey, an update! Wonder if they clarified anything, re: the weird Rafiq Red Fury FTO/Duo...”

    *opens Army*

“...well, I guess that’s one way to address it.”

Dahshat keeping it is the real kick in the pants for me. First Druze Bayram gets the better Druze update, now this!? Where does the betrayal end?

Dashat also gets the upgraded Maggie. But vanilla doesn't.

I never even noticed that. I think I understand it now: central command must just be testing out this new tech with these weird, slightly evil paramilitary organizations. They’ll just give em when they get bored, hopefully

The same thing happened with Saito Togan earlier this year. After an update to Army, he kept Specialist for Druze, but lost Specialist in JSA.

    Pretty rough...

Is there a change log anywhere? So the interested can verify a change instead of pointless hand wringing?

There’s a thread over in the Army Builder section of the forums, but as far as I know there aren’t any specific details. There’s also the Daedalus Falls profiles pdf on CB’s website, which doesn’t list the Red Fury option as being exclusive to Dahshat and Vanilla, but it does specify the exclusivity for other new profiles.

Until/if they do specify, this is the best we got as far as I know

Seems I have to update the Bahram guide again to cover that change.

    I find the change disheartening.

Agreed. It was a sleeper HB change that really excited me. A nice, cheap, mid range utility piece that added a little something extra to our remote line-up. I may also be a little biased because I run a TR bot, Barid hacker lieutenant, and Leila (surprise surprise) in 95% of my lists lol

I’ll still hold out hope that it’s an error, but maybe the takeaway for me will be to just field the normal Rafiq more often

Yeah, that really doesnt make sense at all. MERCS can afford, what a planetary army cannot...

Ahh crap...thats bad. And I cant imagine, that that REM was to powerful in these Sectorials.

Consider the scope of an Infinity game. Mercs have the leniency to make modifications to the few individual units they own. A planetary military can't so easily retrofit and re-train their 'fleet' of TAGs at the drop of the hat and we don't know how recent these modifications are. Although you are right in that Mercs can't sustain a large quantity of units the way a planetary army can, what units they do have are likely to have extra money used for kitting them out (just look at all the extra fancy doodads most higher end mercs rock in their kit today).

So while Dahshat can deploy one of their new or newly retrofitted Maghariba Guard to an AO they were hired to go to, this could easily be one fifth or more of all such TAGs they own. Meanwhile, a TAG being deployed along with a joint-ops ('Vanilla' Haqq) team made up of a grab bag of random nearby assets is being pulled away from its strategic deployment in an emergency. Vanilla most often does not mean a deployment of a well rounded, supported task force. Maybe in the future the mine dispensers will come a little more standard, but it makes perfect sense for Vanilla Haqq to be behind Dahshat and Ramah.

The Daedalus' Fall book, regarding Dashat, specifies the company was designed on purpose as not having top of the line gear, nor the latest stuff, to facilitate logistics and maintenance.

I'd say they have jury-rigged stuff, and it's more a matter of doctrine rather than resources. I think @Section9 is more likely to give a real-world equivalent answer there, however.

Well, it's pretty amazing what various US military units have gotten up to for off-the-books or otherwise modified equipment. I've mentioned a friend of mine that is an officer in the Army. His company in 25th Infantry Division has a CONEX cargo container full of crap left over from Vietnam that they were still dragging around in Afghanistan. Not to forget anything they 'found' while raiding compounds (really wish he had been able to take that Martini-Henry home for me!)

The Rafiq Red Fury seems a little odd, since a Red Fury is explicitly the same ammo as a combirifle, just with a different bullet (like the difference between the older M193 ball ammo for the Vietnam-era M16s, the semi-armor-piercing M855 ammo for the newer M16A2 and Minimi, and the even newer 77grain OTM rounds for the M4: the newest ammo may not be stable in the oldest guns, not enough spin in the rifling).

Certainly could just be a case of "hey, the Rafiq's gun broke, we scrounged a Red Fury to replace it." But that would be a fluff blurb. It would be like someone saying, "Hey, the M16 broke, we found an HK416 to replace it" today. Edit: or someone saying, "Hey, the AK broke, we found an RPK to replace it."

Well, Red Fury as an issue weapon is available only to Muktar and Nahab troops (plus is installed on some Rafiq REMs of course). I guess Hassassins nor QK had little chance to get a surplus Red Fury to install in their Rafiqs, while Ramah got upgraded Rafiqs as standard issue.

...meaning I wouldn't be surprised if QK & HB got Red Fury Rafiqs in the next update.
    In a few years.
