Should I commit to JSA rather than CA

Hi, I have been playing for a few years and the time has come to play one of the factions I own but have not played. The choice is down to JSA or CA. I am prepping for a tournament in 5 months and need to get either of them fully painted by then. I am a slow painter so I will barely be able to finish up one of them in time.

After literally reading every thread and comment on relevant posts since the uprising I still cant make up my mind..

I really like the look of JSA and the thought of how they play out on the table. I just have a slight problem with feeling that they are underpowered. Now I know thats likely not the case, but I cant help but think that picking them over CA is intentionally gimping myself for the sake of flavor.

I know CA is not an easy faction to play but surely its much more straight forward tossing smoke and march your MSV3 HMG Charontid down the table shooting everything in sight before grabbing the objectives, than it is playing JSA.

My friends all said to go for JSA but I think thats mainly because we have one in the ģroup playing CA and I also said I felt JSA would probably be more of a challenge to play well.

In short, I want to pick JSA but feel im handicapping myself by choosing them over CA and I am afraid of regretting the decision.

I am in the same spot.
CA is very nice with some standout links and units that look fun but I have a soft spot for JSA and some of the units already from my YJ days.
I think no matter what we pick we are probably going to regret it a little.

Go JSA! They are the best in my unbiased opinion lol.

I'm new to infinity and have found them easy enough to learn and play with (even won 1st game and dominated kill ratio on table). They are a close range shooting army with ace-in-the-hole close combat nastiness, which is great fun and very satisfying when you pull it off.

Tbh Infinity seems pretty balanced in terms of armies (who wants an auto-win army anyways!) so just go with the army you like the look of. After all you are going to spend the next 5 months painting it!

Agree with @archangeleong , JSA is actually pretty easy to use unless you bring all the bikes. The bikes are harder to use.

Do you know what the missions are for the tournament?

@Andre82 interesting take and you are probably right.. haha

@archangeleong true its hell of a lot of time spent painting haha, I am happy that you are enjoying your JSA!

@Section9 I just fail to see what is easy with them since its often hard to just move shoot like you can with the more qualified shooters in the game also the lack of eclipse scares me haha.

The missions will be: Frostbyte, Rescue, Unmasking, Supremacy and Decapitation, no extras standard 300 pts

How many games have you had with each? I'd play the one that was least frustrating - if only because you'll not thank yourself for a tedious half year. I love JSA because there are ninjas, so if nothing in the army grabs you like it seems the Choron2tid does, I think your choice is already made...

For Supremacy and Decap, I'd run Samurai 7:

    [IMG] Japanese Secessionist Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]9 [IMG]1 [IMG]4
[IMG] OYAMA Lieutenant Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Breaker Pistol, AP CCW, EXP CCW. (0 | 28)
[IMG] DOMARU Spitfire / Pistol, E/M CCW, Shock CC Weapon. (2 | 39)
[IMG] TANKŌ Missile Launcher / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 32)
[IMG] TANKŌ Flammenspeer, Contender / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 23)
[IMG] TANKŌ Blitzen, Submachine Gun / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 23)
    [IMG] O-YOROI AP HMG + Heavy Flamethrower, CrazyKoalas / EXP CCW. (2 | 86)
[IMG] YOJIMBO Contender, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades, CrazyKoalas (2) / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 21)
[IMG] KEISOTSU Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)
[IMG] TOKUSETSU EISEI Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14)
[IMG] TOKUSETSU KOHEI Engineer Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14)
    [IMG] YÁOZĂO Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

It's a pretty straightforward beatstick. Domaru+Tanko link team, O-Yoroi TAG, and Yojimbo to throw smoke. Keisotsu Hacker casts Fairy Dust, Doc and Engineer hide like little girls in the back, possibly in Suppression Fire. Yojimbo needs to start in total cover, you can Speculative Fire his grenades pretty well, at least in the +3 ranges.

For Decap specifically, I'd rambo the O-Yoroi into their face and keep the DoTanko link back for a bit, because if someone knows JSA, they'd know that Oyama has to be the LT.

Doesn't Decap have the Lieutenant as open info?

@Fire@Will yes the LT is always public and as for the other question I have only played 1 game with each. Must say the experience was similar for both but JSA did feel like it would require a tad bit more thought behind it.

@Section9 must say that list does look like sonething I could get behind, is the DoTanko team good in general? Feel like I see much more negativity around them and general love for keisotsu spam instead, which was starting to push me abit away from JSA since I do love the look of the DoTanko link haha

JSA is very good for these scenarios. I'd rank them as being quite competitive in this lineup.

Frostbyte: one of the few factions that can actually make a game plan around destroying enemy heaters in CC, and very good at point defense with Ryuken-9 and Koalas. Also some good candidates for mobile datatrackers that can survive in the midfield, as well as hunting the enemy datatracker.

Rescue: Very good at Rescue... Multiple AVA Superior Infiltration is great, as well as the defense/denial mentioned above. No AD, not much smoke, and a shame Bikes can't do more here, but Oniwaban are a great unit have.

Unmasking: This is the bike mission for sure. Extreme mobile button pushing, and shooting up light targets? JSA is very good here, and so are our ninja.

Supremacy: Pushing buttons and holding quadrants is something JSA can do very well. Watch the enemy run up into your quadrants, only to be picked apart by Saito and an Oniwaban revealing in their midst to gun or chop them down. Good mission for JSA.

Decapitation: Pretty good mission for JSA. We have plenty of good candidates for that big HVT point swing on Turn 1. Our defense is very good too, possibly even allowing for the chance that your opponent will fail their own attempt, handing you a win.

Hadnt thought about it that way.. thanks for shedding some light on the topic greatly appreciate it all! I think I am going to go for JSA with this encouragement and great pointers :D!

How "mandatory" is it getting the Rui Shi now that the MSV2 kempei is available?

I usually take the Kempetai and not the Rui Shi. 1 SWC for the Marksman rifle is easy, but 2 SWC for the Rui Shi and Hacker is difficult. But all of this depends a lot on the rest of your list, of course. The Rui Shi is a killer no matter what it costs, and the Kemptai is a lot less mobile and dangerous.

I'm not sure I've run the DoTanko link outside of Samurai 7.

It is 145 points of your army (162 with the mandatory Keisotsu hacker), which really eats into your other specialists. Being a link team, it's reasonably mobile (due to moving 5 troops with 1 order), and that particular arrangement is very killy. If you take a different LT, you can stick the Domaru FO in there and have a dangerous link team that can push buttons, too.

I'm actually a bit annoyed by the Keisotsu changes, since I was one of the folks who regularly used LGLs, and even more annoying, I had just finished the conversion work and was starting to paint my Keisotsu sniper when both LGL and MSR profiles went away.

Yeah i have definately felt the SWC cost while list building, glad im not the only one of that opinion.

Yeah I can see the points cost becoming a problem for some missions.
Unfortunate situation with your conversions :/, MSR doesnt hit me much since I rarely use it ever, but the LGL is a fun weapon. Would have loved getting to use it :(. What did you end up doing with the conversions, convert them back of keep them unique? :) And again thanks for all the help guys!

Well, so far I've left them. I may end up buying the new Keisotsu SWC box, because the old Keisotsu are tiny.
