There's five Bashi Bazouk profiles. Why would anyone ever take any other than the one with SMG -and- a Chain-colt template weapon, that is for some inexplicable reason also 3-5 points cheaper than the other profiles? (all right, the E/Mauler-profile is somewhat interesting. I'd like to try that one some time). SMGs are way undercosted all right... I'd first remove their shock damage. I hate the proliferation of shock damage. I'd love to feel that my super-cool Umbras were actually worth fielding...
I usually take the AP rifle Bashi, AD gets flanking shots and AP is a good flanking ammo. Breaker pistols let me choose to hit weaknesses as well. The limited range of the SMG ia VERY noticeable on that troop.
I think I agree with this. The Oniwaban SMG is basically the no-brainer choice now, because it's 4 points cheaper than the BSG. I don't see much reason to take the Tanko LSG, when the SMG is the same cost.
Really? I thought the other way around because I wanted to add a F2F template option and it gives the Tanko better self defense.
SMG should lose AP at the very least. It's not only too strong, it's also ridiculous that it's a armour busting weapon, which small hand held high rate of fire side arms are hardly known for. TBH it should probably lose AP, Shock AND a pip of damage, but that might be too much.
If it lost both ammo types it's just a combi with crap range I think that would go too far. Yeah that's what I was assuming. The LSG makes them harder to target because of the +6, it makes them more autonomous so they can protect the other members in ARO.
What's your motivation regarding this? An SMG's cost is closer to a pistol than a Combi, and a pistol has even worse rangeband, DAM and burst.
It's quite telling that the wishlisting on various threads to optimize uber units has gone from "add Mimetism to everything" to "give SMGs to everything"
We're not talking about such extremes and the points cost are a direct reflection their usefulness on the table. Let's put it a bit more leading, then; do you mean it would be taking nerfing the individual models' potency too much or that it would be taking nerfing the actual gun itself too much, or possibly are you saying the combi is a bit too expensive?
Remember at the start of N3, the SMG was always AP. No one seemed all that bothered about them then - But of course, it wasn't showing up on new stuff as often, and was a relatively rare sight. I also don't think anything saw point adjustments for an SMG?
Really? I opt into the LSG over SMG for the chance at a BS22 before negative modifiers inside close range, as well as for the ranged spray template. EDIT - oh, just realised you were agreeing with me >_>
It would make the gun an uninteresting, pointless peice of equipment. It would be better to find another way than making it combi-. I think there's a trend with having a problem with a specific unit but picking equipment/skills to balance rather than the troop to seem less petty.
