Well, since they have Range bands and MODs, it makes sense to include everything that has them in one easy to use reference chart...
Would you rather they didn't and have to flip through a book/browse a wiki constantly? Because, let's be honest, nobody is gonna memorize those range bands
I accept the rule (what else could I do? ) But from the logical view to the rules, I don't understand it. There are the key words and then they say, they doesn't count. Edit: My problem at the moment is, that the rules feel inconsistent. I've heard the implemented the keywords in N3, but now, they don't follow them completely.
If you think this is confusing you should take a look at D&D 5e's "Attack with a melee weapon" vs "Melee weapon attack" debacle
Essentially weapons are, whatever is listed in the weapons section of the books, if it is not listed there it is not a weapon. I am not saying keywords are not confusing if they were not, we would not have this FAQ entry.
Mines (and placed Drop Bears) have never got the Burst bonus because that applies to BS Weapons, not Deployable Weapons. Thrown Drop Bears are BS Weapons so would get the bonus.
The five-member fireteam bonus says nothing about weapons, just that the user gets +3 to BS attacks. It would apply to Forward Observer. It seems pretty likely that the 3-man bonus applies too, considering FO is treated as BS weapon. Really confused as to the logic behind this part of the FAQ.
Well it is considered a weapon in its own rules. Moreover, fireteam bonus lvl 5 doesn't need a weapon just to be making a BS attack. CB can FAQ whatever they want, but it seems contradictory to the written rules.
Is there something i'm not seeing where they could make FO only a skill that has range bands and remove the "technical weapon" label entirely? I guess it still has to interact with like every other thing that affects BS attacks and interacts with BS attacks so it wouldn't make much sense to change it more. I just looked up the alphabetical Weapons Chart on the wiki and it has FO listed xD but it has minesweeper and other stuff so eeeeh
The amount of rules answers that say, basically, "we wrote the rules wrong, ignore what they say and play it this way" is getting pretty ridiculous. It makes the game really difficult to teach or pick up for new players. This is especially bad considering that many of these "wrong" rules didn't even cause any problems in play. To be fair, writing rules well is very hard, but adding a bunch of unnecessary patches is just going to make the rules even more difficult to remember, which is already a problem for Infinity. tl;dr: Having FAQs that alter the written rules rather than clarifying them makes the game harder to play.
