Howdy all, I have a 200pt Treason Narrative tourney coming up in 2 weeks. We will be cycling through Annihilation, Safe Area, The Armory and Hunting Party... and I'm completely stumped for list building... What are some key wins for us at the 200pt mark? Are there any traps to avoid investing into? Model-wise, nothing I have is presently painted, but I have access to virtually everything in the JSA range with the exception of Aragoto (but could proxy Kuroshi) and REMs.
In terms of general advice, I feel units like Yojimbo or Oniwaban are even more potent in low point games because your opponents are bringing a lower 'weight' of AROs to bear and that to me is the biggest hurdle in their effective use. ODD Ryuken are great for all of the scenarios you'll be encountering due to their ability to make navigating the midfield a chore. As usual, Saito is probably worth his weight in Tesium regardless of the scenario you bring him to. Indulging in personal bias, I'm a huge Yuriko fan and I almost always end up taking her solo or in a link. Without knowing faction demographics for your meta, I'd probably build one list for Annihilation, Safe Area, and the Armory, and use the other list for Hunting Party due to the unique way that scenario works. That' being said, I can see a lot of potential tactical overlap with Annihilation, so you could very easily have one list for those two and the other for Safe Area and Armory. Safe Area and Armory are all about taking and holding, so relatively cheap samurai links could be exploited for that. You could do a Daiyokai duo for 70ish points or a 3 man domaru group for 90ish. The musashi haris is also around 70ish points. A shikami can be hard to shift in addition to being able to operate consoles and panoplies, but at close to a quarter of your list, you'll need to build around him. A lone karakuri with engineer support can be difficult to get rid of as well. Annihilation and Hunting Party are scenarios where Oniwaban and Yojimbo shine, and you could very easily run a list with double HD at 200 points, which if played well can really throw an opponent for a loop. Something like: Japanese Secessionist Army ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 1 1 ONIWABAN Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Monofilament CCW. (0 | 41) ONIWABAN Submachine Gun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Monofilament CCW. (0 | 37) KEISOTSU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 9) KEISOTSU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) KEISOTSU Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 14) KEISOTSU Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) KEISOTSU Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 9) YOJIMBO Contender, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades, CrazyKoalas (2) / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 21) RYŪKEN (Forward Deployment L2, ODD) Submachine Gun, Antipersonnel Mines, D-Charges / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 24) RYŪKEN (Forward Deployment L2, ODD) Submachine Gun, Antipersonnel Mines, D-Charges / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 24) 3.5 SWC | 200 Points Open in Infinity Army And you could easily turn one of those Oniwaban into Saito if you wanted, though the Oniwaban have the advantage of gaining ADHLs in Hunting Party (but no smoke).
