So finnaly, i started with my first Infinity table. Theme is Paradiso, so jungle is the way to go. Did some research and came up with this: Easyst part was the underground, just click "Buy this": For the trees, i needed some more time to decide on material, but found some tube packaging in the "useful for terrain later"-pile. One thing lead to the next: I even had time to test material for structure and colors: (yes, looks not like a tree, but is only a test prototype ) So far, so good. I will make slow progress, its my hobby project for 2018. If questions arise, ask.
You went a different way than the usual method for these giant trees: But this should work juuuust fine.
Have to go with the skills and materials i have. But i think, i will steal the idea with the branches.
I like the high roots because it gives you some line of sight blocking terrain. Good places to hide behind to get cover. Excellent work!
I saw trees like that... here http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/...s-jungle-fever/?do=findComment&comment=348234 They work out well, but do shape the roots so they look a bit more organic. There are a few sculpting compounds out there, like apoxie sculpt, but you can try other stuff too, to get the roots 'just right'. Nice work so far.
If you look for Star Wars wargame tables (hint: Endor, bunker, forest...), you will find a good bunch of tutorials. Air drying clays (Das Pronto, etc). Cheaper than epoxies for big constructions. And weight in the lower part will help with stability. Edit: typo and hint.
Your prototype looks good. To form the trees (and fill the sharp edged) just put paper of your kitchen roll soaked with a mixture of wood glue and water (50:50) over your prototype. Let them dry for one day. To get the surface I just use Wood Filler (Holzspachelmasse) from the next DIY store. After trying this gives the right wooden structure to your trees. Let it dry for one day. Now paint them with an acrylic paint and wood glue mixture (50:50) to harden the surface. Use the cheap acrylic form your DIY shop. I build a lot of trees with this technique. It's cheap and good looking. Now its time to base coat, shade, highlight, etc. your trees. - kitchen roll - wood glue - wood filler (Holzspachtelmasse) - acrylic paint (cheap ones) Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk
Wood sticks like doctor ones (maybe not as clean)? These holzspachtels... Hmm... with some rough cuts they can generate nice lines quickly. Plastic or metal bristle brushes (stiff bristles) are also nice for this task.
wood filler (Holzspachtelmasse) I didn't mean the little wood sticks - the correct word is "wood filler" That what i was talking about is some kind of thick glue that you can "paint" on your trees and when dry you get a real nice wooden structure. Some examples: Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk
The kid was away for two hours so i used the spare time to build more trees. Made a test setup of the table to check density. Next will be the roots on the trees.
