A trend that is apparently continuing with YJ now turning japanese cities into graveyards. I don't feel super-excited about being in the genocide faction now...
The Imperium of Man strikes back.... I expect the Uprising book will try to remake Yu Jing fluff to show the good parts of a futuristic semisocialist power insted of going spanish inquisition 2.0. Even i know how mad can get in political terms a country when a part of itself try to get independent.
Well well, and just a few days ago there were people claiming they don't think Yu Jing is displayed as villains...guess that motivated CB to ensure they will in the future :-P Cause nothing says "Neutral guys" like having an agent of the state telling a reporter to properly film the mass murder of civilians to send a message to the resistance....
A few days ago most of us admited Yu Jing needed a new fluff to be atractive out of the JSA ciberninja and ssmurai stuff, but i'm sure most of us won't like becoming by oficial ways the new Imperium. Corvus just gave us a single sentence from the book, let's wait and see. I'm in favour of getting japanese out from Yu Jing, but it will need a fluff catarsic procces in compensation ( apart of IA x)
@Yasashii Fuyu yea I think the big break down there came from the fact Corvus Belli were expecting us to write them reports explaining everything our factions were doing from a fluff standpoint, This was never actually told to anyone until about 2/3rds of the campaign was concluded. But that is an argument for another thread. @krossaks I think Yu Jing has a great style all on its own in the Chinese martial arts and mythos. The only difference is, because of anime and popular culture, the ninjas and samurai are more well known and loved. If you know the two cultures and the aesthetics really clash.
To be fair, I'm not sure if Chinese culture is that well represented in YJ model range, even if some historical references are in place .
What's funny is, the JSA split has made me actually want to play ISS more as well as JSA as weird as that sounds. For some reason my brain now feels justified to put ISS into this ludicrously over-the-top, "DIE TRAITOROUS SCUM" kind of mindset, screaming with all the fervor of a grizzled spess muhreen when they say "FOR THE EMPEROR!" I have no idea why it took this split to make my mind click to that state, because that's what ISS was before. So I'd say the split actually makes me want to play all sides of Yu Jing and previously-Yu Jing more, because the inherent conflict, animosity and hostility gives both sides a very interesting and exciting mindset to get in to. All this considering you get into the fluff like some sort of nerd :P
Well...I guess CB's plan worked then....if people actually think mass murdering people while screaming "FOR THE EMPEROR" is what a state secret judge/police/executor force is supposed to do...it apparently worked. Personally I always assumed that the ISS was more like Judge Dredd....brutal when needed to be, but sternly upholding the law no matter the cost, even if they have to bend things a little every now and then....
Nothing wrong with neither approach, though I too see IS more as Judges, than anything even remotely close to w40k. Watching Dredd two days ago didn't help (fun movie, by the way).
When the Imperial Service is called upon to crush an insurrection of people they consider to be terrorists and traitors to their way of life, a bunch of treasonous armed terrorists no less, and you expect them to just book everybody and take them to the station? Especially when there's a revolution in the public eye that the emperor and everyone can see, I'd have to think soldiers such as the Imperial Service would do no less than make a show of what happens to those that commit treason (fairly serious crime)
Yeah, Stallone really chewed the scenery in that movie ... They at least got the "look" of MC-1 right in that film for all that it got wrong as well. Urban nailed the character, but it was less MC-1 and more "another day in the strife of Jo-burg" than MC-1.
I was talking about the 2012 movie. Missed it somehow. True about the MC-1 feel, but hey, it didn't really matter all that much.
Well ISS are fanatics, but not religious ones, they will do their best to uphold the emperors law, but they themselves are mostly above law, they do have a judge dredd vibe, but they are also an intelligence agency along with a counter insurgency/ anti terrorist mixed in. The quote is misunderstood, they do not make mass graves of civilians just because, the Japanese decided to fight in civilian areas and the civilians are victims of collateral damage, simply by collaborating to what he sees as armed rebels at best and terrorists or traitors at worse, he could as well say look what you do to yourselves by collaborating. Lets be frank here, if you think Yu Jing army proper, not ISS, would not bomb the secessionist positions to oblivion because there are civilians there, you are mistaken. Now I pointed out several times NA2 are a coalition of minor powers, big mercenary companies are part of it as are minor nations like the new Japan, to let that sink in Ariadna and Nomads are major powers.
On personal, and admittedly selfish, level...I am tickled with this turn of events as while I liked Yu Jing, I just didn't want to commit to another real faction but still wanted my cyberpunk samurai(bushido based fanaticism/neo-feudalist warts and all). Its easier to lie to myself when technically JSA isn't a real faction.
"Look what you've me do". "It's your own fault for not behaving". Sounds like manipulation and gaslightning at its finest. I like that interpretation, can't wait to read the book.
Ironically, I wanted to start Yu Jing in general because of JSA but wanted to play around with ISS/Vanilla. Of course, I still plan to in the future but I do like these developments as I did kind of see JSA as kind of their own faction. So in a way, I am hype because it means I can focus on JSA first (and rounding out my PanO).
To be honest JSA should have never been part of yu jing they should have done their own thing and had their own sectorials, maybe something like ninja based sectorial mech based and the normal samurai based. I can see other smaller Asian nations being bullied by Chinese but never the Japanese it never made any sense.
