Ehm, hard disagree in this part. Aleph has, at most, gotten 1 release per 2 months including repacks. The only faction worse then that is tohaa. Getting releases outside of the normal updates is the norm, and they get significantly improved updates too. Check the excel sheet- the entirety of OSS's initial releases just put aleph back up to 1 release per 2 months, followed by 1 release per 3-4 months (hippolyta, arjunas). Any non NA2 and tohaa faction gets 1 release per 2 months at _worst_ and usually 3/4 to 1/1 ratio.
I was not talking about product releases, but new profiles (something most factions only get when there is a new book, there are a few new profiles for almost everyone, or they are revised).
Even then other factions get plenty of new profiles outside releases, and most of aleph's were in OSS or in anticipation of OSS (danavas). ALEPH is like the tau in 40k, for every profile or model you get, only the even less popular factions get the same amount or less, the rest gets significantly more.
well, that's not what I've seen. For example, since they said that SP was "closed" (the same time they did for CJC), corregidor got jaguars in a edition change... aleph got dactils, acmon, scylla, drakios, achiles v2 and hyppolyta, being dactyls and acmon the new ones from edition change. I know that when a faction is new, they need releases, but aleph has get new profiles more frequently that almost any other faction.
That is an interesting perspective. Didn't know there was a similarity between the two factions' releases in their respective wargames.
Hence why I referenced the excel releases doc. Alephs was only danavas for a full year (and a half if you ignore repacks) before OSS, and after the OSS trail started to die down we've only had arjuna and the remote rework in a full year. I keep checking the new releases thread in the news section but since I dislike the arjuna model there hasnt been anything I wanted in a year. Hence my comment comparing aleph to 40k tau- its not pano or yj, its not second tier like ca,nomads, ariadna or haqq, it's third tier with NA2 and tohaa. Now of course aleph does not have a third sectorial yet like most of those, but one look on the excel sheet clearly shows the only ones who get less are tohaa. And if not for OSS, we'd be under tohaa because spiral corps. I mean, I vastly prefer the faction, but it's not averagely supported, let alone above average. It also shows that you don't need lots of updates to be strong, since pre OSS vanilla aleph already was a top contender in ITS, and OSS mostly uses the parts from vanilla for its strengths.
For those who disagree with this, it’s important to remember that ALEPH is functionally complete. Sure, there are a couple of profiles within units that aren’t present, but with some clever arm swapping, you can run every profile in the army.
Yeah, Steel Phallus is lacking a bit of the ol' punch, but that's normal at the end of a development cycle. Corvus released N3 quite a while ago, and SP hasn't had an update since. They're beginning to show their age. Still, though, it's a fantastic sectorial, and while the they missed out on the more recent polish, strong hero units combined with flexible fireteam options and exceptional specialists are all you really need to win. An Enomatarchos of entrenched basic Myrmidons is an absolute nightmare to dig free. They can respond to everything except a flamethrower to the face with a BS 16 'throw smoke' ARO with a -6 MOD applied to the enemy--all for 16 points. If the enemy tries to engage in melee the Myrmidons have the advantage; if the enemy tries to shoot then the Myrmidons have the advantage; and if the enemy ignores them then the Myrmidons circle around behind and...you guessed it, have the advantage. They're a force with only one counter, MSV, and an extremely expensive one at that. Should Hector have LT lvl 2? Yeah, probably. And yes it would be nice if Atalanta came with shock immune and fireteam options, and I wish the Dactyls had a point, and, yes, the rules pointlessly undermine Patroclus' interaction with Achilles. But at the end of the day Steel Phallus is still the most FABULOUS faction in the Human Sphere. I mean, just look at Achilles' hair!
It’s worth noting that Steel Phalanx did very well. Better than OSS or ALEPH. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WGCInfinity/permalink/2833073886715930/
Well, the % numbers are so close for Aleph the differences mean absolutely nothing. In general, this implies that power curves are tight. However, I'd want the same data but only high scoring players (say including players that ranked top 3 in at least 2 tournaments), not across all players. That would be interesting to see.
The Win % Numbers seem off compared to the numbers for the whole year. Or win Percentage is just a metric that doesn't translate very well into actual performance. And I'm pretty sure sure these ones are more accurate. As they both are a better match for last year and make more sense with Tohaa, Aleph, Dashat and OSS performing near the top: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/2019-in-numbers-its-data-analysis.36359/
OSS has twice SP pick rate, meaning there is a higher number of players across all skill levels which have it average out as opposed to SP smaller player base made of veteran players. I's really getting sick of this thing being waved around as if it meant something, especially the win percentages, when you look at the number of battles played they vary immensely, if this wasn't the case then maybe win % might mean something.
Just posting. Not waving. Edit: To be fair, there’s very little we can actually say about low numbers. It may be that only experienced players are bringing Steel Phalanx, but that could be thrown into question by the fact Acontecimento, an army that is out of production and in theory would only see experienced players, has the lowest win percentage in a big way. So really, the numbers are largely meaningless. Still, it can be fun to wave them around and yell about the sky falling
Weird question for an old thread, but does anyone know where to look for fluff on the old "Myrmidon Wars"? I remember there being a moderate amount of fluff/reference to it in N2, but can't find it now.
human sphere n3 core book, there's some mentions of it there from memory. (take this with a grain of salt as i don't have many overall SP games) i find SP, being solely created to fight CA as S.S.S. was too predicable to EI, to be the worst sub faction at it. non hero- AGEMA either need to be link capable with thorakitai (or dactyls) or alternatively given something to make them a worthwhile and "unique" solo sniper piece like marksmanship (or return marksman X). their contemporaries in other factions have more skills/equipment along with shock immunity, and many (mainly in pano and yu jing) wildcard link, for the same price or less. *side tangent* Teucer, despite being in lore wise the best marksman in the SP is out shot by Atlanta in N4 edit: got that wrong
The lore, in at least N3, had Atlanta as the better shot. He decided it was not worth trying to compete and used exotic weaponry instead."
