Agreed, it's either Legates for shooting (awesome BTW) or Nourikas for slashing, i would never choose Samaritans... And that makes me sad

So, the new Umbra, what do you guys think of it?

I love combat specialists, but at BS12/combi and high 40s for cost I'm skeptical. He does have a good flash pulse and good dodge for getting around, but I feel he will only be a good fighter with specific targets in the midfield - expensive, weak to CC guys or expensive hackers.

Would love to be convinced that he's sweet. My only CA lists for the last few years have been exclusively Avatar shenanigans so I'm out of touch as to how to play more standard lists...

I’ve used the standard Samaritans extensively in N3, and he’s much better than they are.

The trick is to get a target in the midfield that isn’t under Camouflage - once the Samaritan reaches a target and eats, they have a decent chance of munching through everything else in the midfield because they’ll often be gaining Wounds as fast as they’re losing them, even if you take on relatively risky AROs. Basically, anything he gets within 6” is almost guaranteed to die unless it’s a god-tier CC monster like Shinobu or Achilles, and even Achilles is going to be on roughly even odds.

CC25 and MA4 means he’s on CC28. Adding 8 to his roll so he can’t roll less than 9, and is critting 40% of the time unless the target can apply negative MODs. His target will be on -3, and he’ll be hitting with Damage 15 and Burst 2.

In one game, in the first turn, I had a Samaritan reach all the way to the enemy DZ, eat Cassandra Kusanagi for two Wounds while suffering two Wounds from an onlooking Sin-Eater with HMG, then use Super-Jump to get onto the roof and eat the Sin-Eater for two Wounds, while suffering two Wounds from most of an onlooking Moderator Fireteam. That was an extreme example, but oh so glorious!

In N4, careful use of Dodge will be key, as Nourkias and the Samaritans are Dodging 4” on 15s in both turns. In the active turn, remember that CodeOne/N4 Dodge movement happens after AROs and rolls - so if there’s an enemy Trooper within 2-3” of a corner, you can move up to the corner, staying out of sight, and Dodge, and if you make the Dodge you get to run 4” round the corner into combat without triggering any LoF AROs.

That story is amazing and heavy on the cinematics to the degree that I feel like I was watching a Vampire movie, that Moderator team watched in horror as their most bad ass friends got merc'd by Dracula in the beginning of the movie!!! One guy who's name was Hudson was quoted for saying "game over man"...

Also, based on the leaks, looks like Ko Dali is getting a new Infiltrator profile. I don't think she necessarily needs it, but she's really rocketing up my list of favourite CA profiles because of it.

Also a bit of a stealth buff - Shrouded is cheap as shit now, like +3 over a Foxtrot and have Regeneration instead of automed and access to a 20 point profile.

Personally, if this is legit, between standing back up, combi rangebands and +1 BS, I think I rate them higher than one of the most efficient skirmishers in the game.

    And thats just fucking wild

Edit: Post-release, he's a few points more expensive (22 cheapest) but still cheap and good

This just came up on the discord, but could be a fairly interesting strategy.

Would you be able to use the new strategic command token function to turn put an Impersonator into suppressive fire? Sure, you'd lose the actual impersonation state, but imagine parking a Grief Operator at a particularly annoying angle just outside the enemy DZ (or hell, even in, dude's pretty cheap to risk it for the biscuit, no clue how IMP is cheaper than FD8) and annoy the shit out of them.

It'd be fairly matchup and deployment specific, but putting a suppressive MSV1 in a crucial corridor could potentially waste a good amount of orders and do a number on enemy warbands. And it's not like such a threat could generally be ignored too easily, either.

The Speculo and Fiday could make this work as well, but the Grief Operator is especially noteworthy here because of that MSV and ridiculously low price point.

I think it'd be killed quickly by Coordinated troops, but if you'd be able to catch opponent unprepared, he might have to use a decent number of orders and command tokens for it. Might very well be worth it.

So whats our best options for killing TAGs in the new edition? Got an event coming up within a week and everyone is in a TAG frenzy. But I've barely played against them as they were quite unpopular.

Speculo is good. Our own TAGs are good. Theres some other melee people like Samaritans or even Datz that can probably do a number on them. But hacking and such is a foreign language to me, don't even know what hackers we have or what programs are good.

Noctifers. ML is always good against TAGs. So is Plasma is you got a good source of it. Otherwise half the army has a K1 loadout somewhere.

other loadout with AP HMG is pretty good as well. I think I'd still prefer to roll more dice

Well, tried it. If you can get a Noctifier to get eyes on the same lane, it's absolutely vicious. Even alone it can waste a lot of orders, but the HD missile turns it into one hell of a puzzle to crack.

Strategos from the Avatar helps a bit with that too, since you can withhold more. Absolutely bonkers when you also put down a speculo as well.

Honestly really excited about the Skiavoro buff because I just like that unit in general. Maybe it'll get a resculpt??
