Hey guys, I’ve been playing a ton of CodeOne the last few weeks and wanted to share my experience with who I have had the best luck with in C1. Let me know if I'm overrating a unit or you think there’s a hidden gem I’m missing: The Good Orc Troop (LT, HMG) - The LT HMG with 1swc is a profile I really hope moves over to N4! Since the bigger pieces have sub-par or no LT profile it seems like a no brainer for a free order on a BS14 HMG platform. Aquila Guard (HMG) - With how brutal the LI CodeOne can be, having a piece that can auto discover and ignore ODD is almost an auto-include in my experience. The AP Marksman rifle is also a fun option because you can slap LT on it, however I found after a few tries I was really looking for the extra range. Going to feel so lame when I have to make discover rolls again. Nisse (Sniper and HMG) - Nisse is a great piece for the same reason the Aquila is: you'll probably be up against plenty of ODD (*Mimitism -6). The HMG is an extremely potent attack piece, and the Sniper is one of the best ARO pieces in CodeOne. Swiss Guard (HMG and ML) - As long as you're not going up against a sea of Camo, the Swiss HMG can take down almost any ARO piece and hide himself from a counter attack with his -6 Camo. While not as nasty without hidden deployment and circular templates, the Missile Launcher is extremely hard to uproot if you put him in the right location. Really happy CB put the guards in CodeOne! Croc Men (Hacker) - Since FO doesn't exist in Codeone, the crocs get a competitively priced hacker. It's hard to play the shell game if your opponent can count your SWC, however it's always satisfying throwing down a carbonite to stop a rambo run. Fusilier (Paramedic) - The one profile to make two others to the bottom of the list! With command-token rerolls not in CodeOne, a 1pt cheerleader usually picks up the heavy infantry better than machinists, so throwing 1pt at a pretty good "doctor" is a steal! Pathfinder Dronbot - 1pt 6-4 specialist makes a great option when you're high on points but low on specialists. Sierra Dronbot - With no link teams in CodeOne, if you dont have the points for a more potent ARO piece, the classic reaction bot can waste a few orders if placed properly. Fugazi Dronbot - Usually I dont need it, but a .5 regular order is great when your list is especially expensive. Machinist - If you're bringing bots, you cant beat a 1pt engineer/backup specialist.
The "Meh" Akalis - I know this is a classic unit but there's just so many great options that I almost never have enough points to bring him. As good as a normal drop trooper but when compared to the Tiger Soldier and O-12's drop options he just pales in comparison. Trauma Docs - As mentioned above, usually your fusilier is rolling better than your Trauma Doc. If you have extra points that you dont want to put in a palbot, throwing mimitism on her might be a good way to counter strike as a last resort. Clipper Dronbot - A missile launcher is a missile launcher, but I never seem to have enough SWC to throw this guy in. Nokken/Locust - I lump these together because they're incredibly similar in cost and function. A Nokken/Locust hacker is a decent tool for locking down a fire lane or pushing buttons without having to risk revealing a croc. Knight of Justice - High armor and insane BTS makes the Hacking Device profile a fun piece to bring. Overall I feel its a bit too expensive and has a hard time fitting in to an all-comers without building around. LT spitfire is a good LT option with WIP13, but usually I already have HMGs to do this job. Boyg Soldiers - The high-armor ML is a fun piece and definitely makes your opponent sweat. However no positive or negative mods at 4.5pt makes him have the same issue as the Knight of Justice.
The Ugly Vargar - Probably my favorite profile out of WinterFor in N3. Unfortunately, the CodeOne Vargar missing drop bears/sensor on its marksman rifle and takes a lot of character out the unit. Additionally, changes to Super Jump make it pretty hard to get any use out of this guy in the limited ruleset. Infirmarers - See the note about the trauma doc, except add a point. While BS12/WIP13 isnt to be ignored, there's plenty of other places to spend its 2pt. Gunnar Lundmark - Poor Gunnar. Missing dogged, natural born warrior, and beserk makes him pretty useless in CodeOne. Sure, there is a significant point drop but that doesn't make him much more justified to take. As mentioned about the infirmarer, these points can go somewhere a bit more useful easily. The Verdict I actually really enjoyed Pan-O in CodeOne. There's plenty of powerful options, and 30pt means you can bring pretty much anything you want. Even though I gave Gunnar and Infirmers a bad score, sometimes I had enough points left over to include them just because I love the models. Also, I typed up a full review of codeone. Didn't want to go too crazy on here but feel free to check it out on my blog: https://diceystrategies.com/f/codeone---review-and-thoughts---september-2020 . Overall I'm having a ton of fun playing CodeOne as a (somewhat) experienced player waiting for N4 but I don't think it's without issues.
"Trauma Docs - As mentioned above, usually your fusilier is rolling better than your Trauma Doc" I don't think so, they have BS 12. https://infinitytheuniverse.com/army/codeone/panoceania/trauma-docs https://infinitytheuniverse.com/army/codeone/panoceania/fusiliers Trauma Doc and Machinist are always better than two fusiliers in C1.
Sorry I should have been more clear in that wording: usually if you’re picking up PH 13/14 HI with a paramedic medkit using a normal PH roll is better than a WIP12 doctor roll (can you choose with a doctor?). If you’re running a lot of low PH models then the Trauma is def a better choice. I’m sure in N4 when (if?) command token re rolls come back for doctors the doc will be the unit to take again.
Trauma has medikit and Doctor skill (fusilier only has medikit), so, you can choose always the better roll. Fusiliers (and other units) are sub-optimal due C1 point system without decimals
Thanks for the write up. I've been enjoying code 1 as well. It lacks the granularity of full infinity but the games are fast and fun!
Hey @OrphanOfToast... any plans on doing similar lists for the other C1 factions, aside from just PanO? I'd be interested to get your opinion.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it! I should actually be able to make up one of these lists for combined army, so be on the lookout for that in the CA CodeOne section this weekend! As for O-12 and Yu Jing, I don't really play those factions so I don't have much insight as to what would work for me.
As Orphan's regular opponent I could do similar breakdowns for Yu Jing and O-12 if you'd like. We basically split the Code One factions down the middle.
