Hey guys been searching through the minis and I am attracted most to the JSA but honestly I am unsure of what exactly I am looking at or for. I know there is a JSA starter set but then which miniatures will I need on top of that? I want to see how much it is going to cost me to setup a infinity army so trying to get a starting force together for 300pt games.

    Minis such as -
    Miyamoto Mushashi Aristeia! outfit
Saito Tōgan, Mercenary Ninja (Combi Rifle)
Appeal to me alot but honestly everything under JSA seems cool to me.

Was hoping to have some pointers in what you guys would reccomend I purchase etc.

    Thanks all!

I would suggest getting the Keisotsu box (it's actually 3 keisotsu and 1 kempei), as well as Yojimbo, who's probably one of the most important characters for JSA since he provides smoke and a strong midfield element.

Yes. The Kempeitai in the Keisotsu box is your MSV2 trooper, the Kempeitai in the start is your Chain of Command trooper. Both can go into the same Fireteam (if you want them to).
I'd say you also want Domaru pack and a Ninja blister. Possibly Tanko pack as well, but that's more for options.

In addition to the starter box, you'll eventually want to add:

    Keisotsu Box
Yojimbo Box (Kuroshi Rider is a decent proxy in the meantime)
    Yaoxie Remotes Box
    Ninja Blister

Domaru are hit or miss, some people enjoy playing them but I rarely take more than 1 in a list. Same for Doctor Engineer. I take the engineer pretty rarely but the doctor almost never.

As a new player, you can probably skip/proxy:
Aragoto Bikes -- you get Kuroshi Rider in the army pack, she can proxy whichever bike
Karakuri -- they are cool but annoying to assemble and require a good knowledge of game mechanics
Tanko -- they link with Domaru but don't do much else in JSA
Characters -- You can proxy them all at first since almost all the characters are modified versions of other existing units (which it will say in their name)

Support pack (doc/engineer) is a good buy as well.

Yeah, I think Keisotsus and Yojimbo is a must.

A Rui Shi might be nice, so yeah, the Yaoxie Box is a good choice, too.

The Ninja KHD is always a good choice to push buttons or kill enemy hackers.

I rarely use the support box but usually go with Yuriko Oda (Dire Foes)
as she is a great toolbox and can go into the Keisotsu Core.

And even if the Karakuris are hard to assemble,
they are so useful as Specialists with Total Immunity
(in Cover only 1 save with ARM/BTS 9 no matter what hits them)
and 2 wounds + Dogged or 2 levels of unconsciousness.

They're also able to do the ole' unidron trick. Where you go 1 wnd unconcious, 2nd wnd Unconcious 2 and stand back up into Dogged. So long as its all in one order. Which is admitted less likely for them.

Agreed that Yojimbo and the Keisotsu box are must-haves, on top of getting the big starter.

From there, it's preference. The points made above are all good, but I do think that Saito, the Remote Box, Rui Shi / Lu Duan box and Karakuri (either the official models, or proxies you like) are all good purchases.

Well, JSA doesn't have any bad purchases (because Kuroshi Rider is in the starter, that's the only profile I'd classify as "bad"). You can get too many of some things and Aragoto are very hard to use.

Domaru are a good purchase because they can form Fireteams with most things, including the Daiyokai.
Yaoxie are a good purchase because even at increased SWC cost a Rui Shi is a good tool to have in a faction with access to smoke.
Yaokong are a good purchase because you can't go wrong with cheap order Chaiyi and cheap and fast specialist Weibing.
Keisotsu are great because they provide bodies for Kempeitai and orders at a low cost.
O-Yoroi is good because it belongs to the pool of TAGs that were good before it got Tactical Awareness, and it is one of precious few long range platforms.
Tanko are good because it is the other long range platform, but you'll want to combo them with Mushashi or Domaru
Mushashi (recent non-shibi sculpts) is kinda good on his own, but he is also a good proxy for Neko Oyama.
Ninjas are great, just don't buy too many!

Wait what? Bad in what sense. The Kuroshi ride is one of the best LT options in JSA.

I would absolutely rank her in the top 10 of JSA LTs, but she'd not make it to the top 5. Roughly 8th position, I'd say.
I find her to be, by far, the easiest enemy LT to kill I have ever faced and is the only LT I have actually actively hunted in a faction that has guaranteed CoC simply because how easy it is to kill her. She takes the difficulty of the Aragoto, but without the low price of the Aragoto or the Domaru and doesn't reach even Tanko melee skill level. Having access to only AP+Shock CCW, she also lacks the utility or threat potential of Andromeda or Penthisilea.
In short, they took Asuka and made her expensive.

I've had very different play experiences with her. But then I didn't use old Asuka so maybe she was even better who knows.

I can't tell if this is a joke, there are only 7 LT options in JSA.

I think Kuroshi is okay, 8-6 unhackable specialist, dogged. Wouldn't be competitive with a hypothetical Aragoto FO though.

One thing to know about JSA as a new player, your initial experience is going to be VERY difficult. JSA requires a lot of finesse, lacks firepower, and is best at the least efficient means of killing in the game. I highly suggest you read @WiseKensai ’s blog, he has had a lot of practice with them and writes incredible battle reports.

The sentence is a joke, but the contents is not, I just wouldn't ever use her as LT. I think the only good thing I can say about her is that she has a miniature, but I don't even like the sculpt so its the only JSA model I own that I haven't assembled.

FWIW the best JSA player I know swears by Kuroshi as a Lieutenant and frequently causes tremendous damage with her.

The way you use the tools in JSA, and any army for that matter, often dictate which ones are "good". If you use Kuroshi well, then she's great, if you use something poorly, then it's going to do poorly.

Kuroshi reminds me of Kasym in this way. I know a lot of players that hate him or never use him because "he's just gonna die" but myself and some other guys I know have a blast with him and can be quite effective. Granted ... I think Kasym is the stronger of the two by a bit and you won't catch me in envy of JSA Lt options. I just think Kuroshi can support a very similar play style.

Karakuri are amazing. The Mk12 is my "rambo" piece. You can't go wrong with a Rui Shi. Neko is also a solid lieutenant, I take him as part of a Keisotsu fireteam usually.
JSA is a very finesse-ey army. I started playing the game with them about 8 months ago with them and it was a steep learning curve, but I eventually got the hang of it.

I know Wise made good use of her at the tournament here in Humboldt, but I could never get much mileage out of her. Kudos to him.
