Here's the sort of list I would run with the HGL Lizard. This is in an unknown meta: In a meta with a crapton of Nomads and Ariadna I would make the sacrifices needed to run Zoe and Pi-Well as well. I tend to use HGL TAGs as howitzers the first turn or two. The targeting units are in the first group, and the Lizard in a small second order group with 5 orders or so. Then shift them into the first group in the second turn and blow stuff away closer in. The 5-order second group thing is probably a habit left over from my past Guided Missile Launcher abuse, but it works pretty well for me. The other units (like the Morlocks, Jaguars, Alguacile) are there for flank defense and harassment duty. The Alguacile will also help confuse people about the Lt's identity. That's a failure of the table design than the lizard itself. It's why there's a rule in my meta where we make sure that there are at least 1 piece of full cover for a TAG in DZs. not doing so is not only asinine but also unfairly punishing people that want to play with their big stompy mechs.
Maybe but it's so common that I have to expect it and judge a unit and list based on what it's likely to give me in value. You take a list like that to the last tournament I played and you better get to go first or you are screwed.
I'd politely mention that to the TOs. Depending on the size of the tournament one or two tables without cover for a TAG may slip through but you should absolutely expect to be able to deploy a TAG in total cover in a DZ. That total cover might be limited or in a less than idea location, but it certainly should be present.
Yah it would be nice and yet for me it appears to be the norm. Hell just looking online real fast makes me wonder if even 50% of tables provide safe haven for a tag on both sides. Hell if you get right down to it, I kinda think TO's kinda enjoy making unbalanced tables. This is the close range map and over here we have the wide open trench warfare map. Advantages and disadvantages for different types of lists on each table tend to be seen as a positive. It's so bad my play group will purposefully practice on crazy dumb tables sometimes. I once played on a table so packed I could not drop my net rods. Or one table that gave me a sniper tower in my deployment zone overlooking almost all of my opponents deployment zone. Anyway my point is a tag that can't protect itself is a dead tag, maybe I am wrong but I am not convinced missing out on that cover is all that much of an exception.
There's a thread in Human Sphere that shows good tables (started by @ijw) and @daboarder's Primer on one way to build a functional table (I'd highly recommend this to TOs as a guide for people who offer up a table). So it's certainly not impossible to get a table that supports TAGs. IJW's thread: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/table-layout-inspiration-redux.25708/ Daboarders thread (note, you can't be logged in to see the images): https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/a-primer-or-table-structure-and-setting-up-the-game.22949/ It's possible that the TO's don't even realise it's a problem. I've done it once or twice while setting up tables because I haven't done the 'is there cover for a TAG?' check. Raise it with them.
Thank got you are not a moderator, but I will still prowl out of here and cause you zero further trouble. Don't worry, all will be pi-well.
I feel like you could have fit in a few Moira puns. But I'm a notoriously hard Task Master and will demand Morlock.
Yeah, I didn't want to heckle the discussion and just stay observant. But now that you intervented anyways, I guana say that we could use moran puns here, too.
They have been a bit hollow, man, I know. But there is no need to cause a riot, girls! (ok, I may have surpassed a certain grenze with my puns. I'll show myself out before I cause any more mary problems and will not return until I figured out how to make a pun with kriza borac)
Zonds! These puns begin to borac me. It feels as if you're attempting to puppet the language in tortured ways.
