With the new Paradiso campaign out our group is planning on running a campaign so I wonder how to build the Spec-Ops or if I should even spend any exp on it at all? The Keisotsu is not the most exiting platform to build a Spec-op on but it is cheap. On the other hand not having any access to Cube hurts a lot, spending a lot of points on something you could lose permanently feels questionable. 8p give you a WIP 15 and Doctor, 2p more for Medivac Plus and maybe 2 more for Minelayer or 3p for Climbing Plus so you can do objectives easier? Doctor is the cheapest way to get Specialist now btw as there is no longer a 1p Specialist Operative option. Or maybe better to just spend the points on the army upgrades? The ones that at max level allows you to both Keep Initiative and Keep Deployment seems like it could be really good for us.
If I recall correctly, all of them come with Specialist for free now. Can someone confirm/deny that? I don't have the book in front of me. With the full campaign, and no Cube, it's hard to say which way you should go. JSA really likes having a "free" heavy weapon gunfighter. We certainly need it. In any case, Minelayer remains one of my favorite upgrades for any Spec Ops.
They are considered specialists under the "Specialist Troops" heading in each campaign mission, but they don't get any skill by default that would make them a specialist otherwise.
Looking at the upgrade tables I wonder if they made a mistake. If I haven't missed something JSA are the only ones that can't get Cube for their Spec-ops. Everyone else already have it (most of them) or can buy it (ariadna, haq and for some reason yu jing who already has it on theirs).
Army web is already up. I like the idea of getting a free agent. You get and extra order for group 2 and a replacement for keisotsu core. (Never having a place for the 6th Core member in the 1st group). In adittion, you can give him a good weapon and improve his BS or an special ability (Engineer or Doctor, by losing the Yaozao. Otherwise, the old Hacker version was been amazing) with WIP 15. Heavy Flamer, Airborne Infiltration and +1PH looks risky, but give you an unique ability in the army and it is so cheap. Note: Dont know what is Medevac and Cubevac. The wiki is empty.
If the spec-ops end the mission in a null state it needs to make a MediEvac roll, at base you need to roll a 9 or less, 12 or less if you have a non nullnstate paramedic on board and 15 or less with a Doctor. MediEvac plus increases the number you need to roll under by +3. If you fail this roll and don't have a cube the spec-ops is dead permanently and you will have to start over from 0 XP. If you have a cube you also get to do a similar cube evac roll and if that fails your only penalty is that you can't use the spec-ops next game. So cube is really important as we are talking a 8-12 missions long campaign.
Now I understand the EVAC part of Medivac. Seems mandatory field another doctor and give him that ability in campaigns. And/Or give him safer rols. Wonder why Kaizoku come back to call Keisotsu in army.
Because they're built off the Keisotsu profile. For example, every Delta Force trooper started out as a basic Soldier, then had to get selected for whatever training specialties (Airborne, Air Assault, Sniper, Medic, etc). It kinda makes sense in JSA that the Spec-Ops are built off of the basic trooper (Keisotsu). But I really wish that in YJ/Invincible Army you could build a Spec-Ops off of the Zuyong, which is also a basic trooper.
JSA are short of big guns and board control so I'd build to those weaknesses. Bump the BS up, take a decent gun, minelayer and medivac plus and have at it!
Yeah, but in the post uprising the operative was called Kaizoku (That means Pirate if I remember). The army took the Keisotsu profile and name it Kaizoku, pre Daedulus. In fact, the mini is named Kaizoku xD. Either way, I think that Japan only can lose when spec ops rules are applied. Keisotsu profile, no cube, etc...
Kaizoku is the name for JSA SpecOps that is appended to the name of base profile. Look at Yuriko Oda, her profile name is Keisotsu Kaizoku. Same with other SpecOps - Alguacil Vortex Lupe Balboa, Fusilier Indigo Bipandra and Indigo Brother Konstantinos (doesn't really fit,but eh, religious nutcases are like that )
Is anyone else a little miffed that JSA didn't get it's own loadout set? It's a Keisotsu, not a brawler, there's no reason it would have an MSR. It also means that for some reason YJ specops will be vastly better at CC despite their main army having very limited CC units compared to JSA...
That's fine, CC is a gap to fill in YJ which is exactly what spec ops is for. Look at nomads, they're gonna struggle to get past a CoC variant. For us here we want a good shooter and maybe some mines. If YJ want to use theirs on CC skills, let em, that's fine. We've got domaru in keisotsu teams if you want a cc dude, don't need to beef up a keisotsu for that task
Well, they are Keisotsu after all, they won't be admitted in the same Dojo's where the Domaru or the Oniwaban train.
I see a lot of people using minelayer skill. Am I wrong to assume this skill does not provide mines or other deployable and that they need to be taken as equipment? Still hesitating with WIP 15 doc with climbing plus or weapon platform....
In the previous iteration of the Spec-Ops rules Minelayer included AP Mines, my copy of Daedalus' Fall is still en route but I'd guess its the same from the equipment lists.
