There's two kinds of smoke tricks 1: Rui Shi and Shaolin happy couple. 2: Self-contained melee-enhancers (MacHaon, Saito, etc) (3: get to the objective) Number 1 has the problem of typically being very costly in terms of orders. ODD is typically a lot more order efficient for the same MOD, and yes it's typically blown out of proportions because all you can remember as an opponent is those one or two times per game it worked like a charm and then fail to realise what an utter nightmare a Bulletteer would've been in the same list. As an anecdote, I often find that once a specific obstacle has been removed a Husong can be at least as good, if not better, at Ramboing the enemy as a Rui Shi. Number 2 is a lot harder. Usually you'll want at least a modicum of order efficiency with your Rambo which means putting the smoke template juuust right. Then you realise that you don't have LOF to that spot and need to Speculative Fire (typically this is because the spot is at an elevated position or that the spot is on the other side of a chest-high wall or around a corner) Number 3 is mostly there to annoy Pan-O. I've only experienced a rare few games where this has been decisive and that was with Eclipse Grenades anyway.
Completely forgot the AVA . Sorry. In my local gaming community the smoke trick Is always a thing. Sniper in a nest ? Smoke trick him with hmg Fireteam? Smoke and cc. Maybe it's a local thing.
Perhaps Maybe smoke tricks are so non-intimidating in my area because Ariadna is the most numerous faction locally and smoke is more often used as a LoF block than an offensive tool due to the prevelance of order-spam lists...?
That particular list was made pre uprising. There's alot of things you could do different with it now.
Considering how old it is... yeah, I do suppose so. Now we have a fourth S5 HI, we have a new amazing Lieutenant unit, buncha new merc related stuff and all that.
It's certainly something to keep in the back of your mind. Irregular models like Shaolin or Yuan-yuans make it very likely to happen. It's a little less likely with Imperial SS, since the only smoke is the KSCD. It's even more likely with Impetuous models with smoke, like Yojimbo. Move+Smoke in the Impetuous phase is almost guaranteed to happen.
I had this list set up for possibly frontline, engineering deck and decapitation in an event soon though I'm still not sure about it. I'm dipping back in after an absence, and want to try my hand at IA. These would be for friendly games, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something amid the new(ish) stuff: Option 1: Zhanshi-centric (300/6; 5 specialists) Daoying hacker lieutenant Rui Shi Zhencha FO w/ SMG DUO: Mowang MULTI + Haidao KHD CORE: Shang Ji HRL, Son-Bae ML, Zhanshi HMG, Zhanshi FO, Zhanshi Group 2: WarCor, Liu Xing MULTI SO The first three are unchanged between lists. This uses cheapo Zhanshis so I can afford the Liu Xing. I know Shang Jis are poo-poo'ed a bit, but BS13 HRL seems nothing to sneeze at, especially linked up. They'd generally stay back while the Mowang and Haidao do their business. Liu Xing is icing on top. Option 2: Paintrain-lite (300/6; 5 specialists) Daoying hacker lieutenant Rui Shi Zhencha FO w/ SMG DUO: Mowang Red Fury + Haidao KHD CORE: Zuyong HMG, Zuyong FO, Zuyong Tinbot, Son-Bae, Haidao Engineer This one is Limited Insertion (not by design), and has 3 Zuyongs supported by a bot and MI. Mowang also gets an arguably better gun. Not sure if not having AD will hamstring this force though. The Core team will be more active than with the Zhanshis, but its always a lot of eggs in one basket with HI core.
As someone also going to that event I'm not sure how much you want me viewing and commenting. But I'm taking druze, so I'm not likely to be your competition for top table :P Anyway, for these 3 missions you've got a few choices I don't think really carry their weight. 1. Kanren sniffer - I don't see many players relying on the classic hidden deploy specialist that this guy is great at countering. Overall I don't think sensor is going to be incredibly useful in these missions. As such, this guy isn't well suited doing what the missions really need - surviving. A zhencha or guilang would be much better use of his points. 2. Liu Xing BSG - for these missions you're really looking for a problem solver. In which case I'd definitely advocate the multi-rifle, bonus he is a specialist for ENG deck. If the game state requires some mid-field fighting, the BSG is going to be sorely lacking if hes been playing with his food in the DZ. Also extra points for capturing zones. 3. Overall the list doesn't bring much to take an hold the mid-ground. Which is the primary focus of frontline, and a tied-for-first focus of ENG deck. Overall not bad, I think its mainly the kanren that I'm not loving. Something for a bit more ARO presence, particularly for Decap would be good although I know Yu Jing is particularly weak on that front but you've left so much SWC on the table you could even pop in a dirty libertos minelayer.
Hi people, I'm playing Unmasking against Onyx on friday (local league) and my IA list so far looks like this: Unmasking ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 TAI SHENG Mk12, Chain-colt, Stun Grenades / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (0 | 45) ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 34) HǍIDÀO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 26) ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Duo, Tactical Awareness) HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (1.5 | 38) HǍIDÀO (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 37) ZÚYŎNG (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0.5 | 34) ZÚYǑNG Boarding Shotgun / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. (0 | 26) SON-BAE Yaókòng Smart Missile Launcher / Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 18) DĀOYĪNG Lieutenant L2 Hacker (Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 29) PANGGULING FTO (Repeater) Light Shotgun / Electric Pulse. (0 | 13) 6 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army Tai Sheng DT + KHD Haris to push buttons and kill decoys/designated targets and a solid Core that can play defense with MSR and SML during reactive but also switch gears with a Panggu FTO and move forward if needed. Thoughts?
What he said! Unfortunately it's one of those "extra" rules of CB. Its a part of the competitive play missions. While the "extra" rules can be fun, they can be a pain too. Feel free to ignore it if you never plan on playing competitively.
